Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Hey guys, just picked up an Ascent off of the classifieds, and am supposed to be getting it on Monday

Would you guys happen to have any advice when it comes to the Ascent?

Welcome to the fun, great choice. Feed it well and treat it right it'll reward you over and over. Enjoyment and 'pride of ownership' seems just around the corner for you......well done.

To that list I'd add 'give it plenty of time for heat to recover between hits'. Ascent manages the heat in a different (but IMO quite successful) way, you need to co operate with it there since it can't really change it's ways. The thing to remember is all the heat for the upcoming hit has to be already there and standing by, once the hit starts all that happens is stuff cools off.

Glass daisy screens helps with taking up some of the huge bowl.

I second that, but not so much because it reduced volume (cotton would be better for that IMO, at least easier) but because they store more heat within the load. Get some and try 'em. IMO you'll get 'better clouds' off of less herb. Repeating that, thicker vapor substituting glass for bud (within reason). Useful if you like vapor?

BTW, pay special attention to posts from Nigel, IMO he knows his stuff big time.

Enjoy your Ascent, given your initial post I'm looking forward to hearing more from you.

This is some fantastic advice, I very much appreciate it! I will gladly update with my level of excitement once I open it and use it for its inaugural (for me) session!

Well had a chance to use my ascent a bit more than normally this week so decide post my thoughts.

I find there no perfect vaporizer you just need to decide you main usage type and pick what best suits you.

The ascent works best when I need a vaporizer to kick back with well watching TV movies. Large bowl that can just sip on for 20 mins. Relaxing and keep's my pain down to a dull roar.

My only concern is the silicone seals. 2 of my failures would have been easy fix's if they would sell that as a replacement part. Instead had to send back for replacement. Concern me what's going happen when 2 year warranty expires.

I agree, it's not a good vape for folks in a hurry.....at least there are better choices IMO.

I think I get their not wanting to sell (or give away) seals. It's not the sort of thing that that favors user replacement I think? That is while some might successfully change them out, some owners would do more harm than good? I'm sure everyone will think they can handle it (know anybody who thinks they aren't an above average driver?) so compromises/exceptions are dangerous from their side.

For instance, my Herbal Aire came with a damaged scale on the dial. It's a thin sticker trapped under the nut on the control shaft, easy to service when the bottom is open (so you can loosen and tighten the nut), they didn't want to send me the replacement for that reason. It took two emails to convince them I could do it without opening the bottom (by holding the shaft/busing from above like I've done many times over the years), they relented and all is good. The idea was 'new to the engineer' they said, no doubt true.

Here this could mean damaged Ascents that needed to be replaced (instead of just the seals) if the 'wrong' owners waded in?

I see your point there OF. Hopefully that might be part of the battery replacement when such time comes around. I would pay a fair price to have my unit refurbished after warranty expires. Better than tossing it in the unused vaporizer box over a seal. :)

So I just ordered a PNWT 14mm for my ascent and i realized my my 14mm adapter i got as a preregistration gift was broke and a new one with shipping from da vinci is 65$ at a minimum to my country which is insane for a glass tube.

Could anyone link me to a cheaper alternative? Preferably one with a shorter tube.

EDIT: As far as spacers go, why couldnt you just make a ceramic plate shaped exactly like the bowl with the holes on the same place? Seems like the logical fix.

What happened with your seals? That sounds like a peculiar defect. We have an our of warranty service available for purchase on our website. Being that the Ascent is not two years old yet, we created this for customers who bought it from unauthorized resellers or secondhand such as our new friend @llama1892. This service will also work for repairs after the two year warranty is up. New bowl, new batteries, and new PCB and screen if necessary all hand done in our office in America. Here's a link for you guys to check out! http://www.davincivaporizer.com/ascent-vaporizer-extended-warranty/

Extra cool! Hopefully this will ease some concerns. IMO this would be a great plan for your competitors to adopt as well. It shows not only your long term confidence but is great customer support IMO. The other guys would much rather sell you an new unit......

Thanks on our collective behalf.

On my seals, it was the one that went around the bottom bowl. After heavy use the silicone got harder and small crack formed. Got to the point would no longer form a good seal between the bowl and the wall.

Having the extended warranty repairs is great. This vaporizer might not be my main one but it does
fits nicely into the what I need it for. Nice to know going be able to fix it after warranty expires.

Thank you DaVinci

So I got my Ascent this afternoon after work and just had my first chance to break it in. When I first loaded it I tried to get a medium grind, and it actually resulted in a lot of herb getting past the glass screen. So, since I don't have any glass flowers I improvised and used the oil jar to press down the herb and use as a blockade. After that I was getting very nice tasting light-medium clouds consistently; I was quite impressed! The package I bought on the classifieds also came with a 14/18 mm gong adapter, and it performed great through my waterpipe.

Overall I think this may have surpassed my pax to my new favorite portable. It is very sleek, heats up quickly and provides good, clean tasting, consistent vapor. And the battery life was much better than anything I have used. I had about 3 sessions and it still had about 1/4 of batter. Possibly my new favorite

Interested to see if anybody has addressed the material getting past the screen in a different way??

I've used a ss screen on top of the load but I think CK has it on lock, I tried the cotton earlier at lunch. Just a thin layer on top. Worked great! Glad your liking your new tool!

I used to use an ss screen too. But CK nailed it. A bit of organic cotton on top reduces the amount of herbage needed to fill the bowl, reduces 'plant bits' being sucked up, and greatly reduces resin build up.

Plus it is so damn easy.
I like carol king cotton idea with a dab in the cotton. Or just flower dab sandwich? I wonder which will taste better, be more effective, last longer? I guess it's time for some experimentation. Does organic cotton have no taste?

How tightly did you have it packed prior to using the oil jar for packing? Also what is your draw speed like? I personally have to try to get material in my mouth. Never experienced that problem no matter what the texture of the grinds used.

When I first bought the ascent over a year ago I had some material that made its way upward. I've corrected it a few ways. A tighter pack works pretty well. I also used to stack a few screens on top of the material.

I did decide that layering the ascent screens was becoming a little bit of a hassle so I trimmed a few Haze conduction screens to the shape of the oven. I have one screen wedged flat against the bottom of the oven to keep material from falling through (this happened with my first Ascent, dunno if it's even an issue these days.).

Anymore I don't really fiddle with a screen on top. I like to put cotton pads from the Haze on top of the herb in the oven. Works great.

Well a buddy of mine actually has an ascent and I have had the pleasure of using it about once when the unit was fairly new on the market. Had the same issue with material getting through his screen as well. Knowing that going into my first session I packed it fairly tight, and had a very slow draw speed to try and avoid this issue, and still had it happen. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or..?

I personally let my inner glass stem get really nice and sticky from tons of reclaim. This helps ABV stick to the stem and not travel up the tube.

The oven jar's are nice, but they will get sticky after several sessions. You may have trouble removing them at some point, but a simple ISO soak cleans them right up.

Like the others said, compact harder, draw softer and at best you will get some bits caught in the lower glass stem but that's it. Apart from the very first day, I never ever had bits getting in my mouth.

Also I never fill the bowl fully, I use between 0.06g and 0.15g at most, tamp the sh** down, and when my session is complete, the puck has the exact same shape and is still entirely in place... it just turned brown, and I dump it in the ABV jar... no messing with hot glass flowers or anything.

All very helpful information, thanks everyone!
Looking forward to trying these suggestions after work tonight. To me, there is nothing better than experimenting with a new vape :science:

If there is nothing in the bowl to hold the herb down (if you don't fill up completely) it will fly around inside the oven. That was the issue everyone had first thing. Using the glass pipe screen flowers on top of your herb helps to hold everything down. The thin layer of cotton acts like a screen. You can also wedge a screen up above the oven if you feel a need.

There is a learning curve with this vape. Practice is the key and see what works for you. Using the GonG as a mouthpiece works better for me than the stock stems.
EDIT
You can buy organic cotton off Amazon. In a pinch take some cotton off the end of a q-tip. A bag of cotton balls will last a long time.

Or steal it out of vitamin bottles.....

IMO 'Organic Cotton' is not necessary (although there's noting wrong of course), but I think it's mostly a marketing ploy. Lots of good stuff on the top 'on the web', but 'medical grade' is fine by me......including the ends of q-tips.

OF

People should be looking for local-sourcedly free-range hand-picked pesticide-free fair-trade artisnal all-cotton spheres...
:p

I think the issue here is not so much the "organic" part, but the "cotton" part, and the term "organic" is a pretty good indicator that there isn't other stuff in there. Hate to see someone buy cotton-like balls, and then melt synthetics in their Ascent (and worse: into their lungs).

Oh, and thanks for that ringing endorsement previously. :)
