Discontinued Elevape SV

Well I got my retainer tool now so I can finally replace my lower screens to double up and get back to elevapin (also noticed I could angle my coil a little lower still so that should help too)

However I can't figure out how to use the tool? I just stick the rubber banded end into the threads of the silver ring and turn? Left or right? Either way it doesn't seem to budge or grip it at all, feels like I'm just turning the tool up against the screen over and over?

I've run into this as well. What ended up working for me was angling the retainer tool just a little bit, just to really "get it in there." Once I was able to get a little bit of rubber in the hole... then the retainer will just screw on out.

That's what's worked for me, anyway.

I think its in there? Bit like its too loose? Trying to angle but doesn't seem different, just even harder turn. Hurting my fingers kinda.

Edit: yeah all its really doing is making the screen that's in there extremely concave, more than it was already. Can't get the ring to budge at all and kind of tired of trying...

Edit2: with my coil even lower now though (third time) I think I may be getting decent results even with my original screen. No combustion on level 1, let's see how it progresses... Level 3 is good too

Try soaking it in ISO. It left to loosen.

When I get just enough of that rubber ring in the retainer, it will screw out slowly and firmly. If it's causing your fingers to hurt, then... well, something is still not quite right!

From what I can recall, any time I did screw out the retainer, it ended up being on a slight angle on the retainer tool when I got it all the way out.

Good luck! If I could (eventually) do it, anyone can!

Yes it took me awhile too but got it eventually. Slight angle not straight in.

@Shit Snacks I do exactly what @HerbieVonVapster suggested by soaking it first.
I do this now always because of the crafty. The cooling chamber in the Crafty always got so glazed (even using an oil pad as a screen) that I was tearing O-rings pulling it apart to clean it.

I also do exactly what @EveryDayAmnesiac (that sig is freaky brother! lol) by tilting the tool and not going straight down, this seems to get a better grip.

Here are a few suggestion you could try.
-Definitely soak it first.
-If you have a 510 EGO battery screw the screen removal tool to it. Having a handle helps.
-If you have any globe attachments for concentrates pens that will also work (that's what the removal tool is).
-Do what EDA said and angle the tool
-Try taking the O-rings off the tool and putting them back on. If they aren't seated into the grooves it helps.

These suggestion should definitely work. If they do not, hardware stores sell little conical rubber plugs for cheap. They will work for sure.

(the removal tool works better to put the ring in straight than it does to take the ring out IMO)

Hola peoples!

So i'm coming up to the 6 month mark with the elevape, and it's been chugging along like a champion! The constant need to stir and determining the battery level are still my only two real issues with the device.

With respect to the constant stirring, I'm waiting to hear more from the beta testers about the new stir insert for the lid. The stirring pin hack seemed like a great idea but it didn't really work for me. Which reminds me... thanks again for all the fc members who are giving us great updates on this thread!

With respect to monitoring the battery level... Although I've gained a pretty good sense of when I need to charge the sv, it would give me more piece of mind to be able to know what my charge level is when out and about. Wouldn't it be possible to program the LED's on the elevape to indicate charge level just like on other devices like the pax and those ecig pens? For example, instead of the 8 second auto shutoff always blinking red at the end, it could also switch to blinking the side orange/green LED as a simple low/medium/high indicator.

Thanks Doc, dont have any mods or tools like that unfortunately.

Guess I'll try soaking for starters, though everything was pretty clean before, i accidentally combusted last night on level 3 by drawing too slow with it plugged in. Need to relearn how to draw since its been so long maybe, but also need to get the screens right...

Soaked, everything's well clean at least, but can't for the life of me get it to move at all. Thumbs on fire with pain from pressing up against the end of the tool trying to turn it, I guess its small diameter wise? Can't angle it and grip it and turn it at the same time, can't try this anymore... Can't grip it and pullj g o rings off and on doesn't help. My screen is super duper concave now, dono if its ok to use like this? Thought I'd just cut an indica screen and cram it in there but thats not pro ong easy either. Waited a while to be able to try replacing the screen, only to get a blister and ha e my Elevape become unuseable. I was afraid of this for along time, why I never wanted to change the coil. Got encouraged by what I read and I basically havent been able to use my Elevape since. Sucks cuz like all my portables are down at once...

D.I.Y. Elevape screen ring removal tool.

For you my friend I just made a great Elevape screen removal tool from a tire valve/valve core removal tool from my tool box. If you have a tire valve use it, if not they are available at any auto part store for a couple bucks.


Tear off the bottom of the tire valve so it looks like this.



Then trim the outer edge with scissors, leaving as much rubber as close to the size of the hole as you can.



It doesn't have to be perfect. It can be a choppy cut.



The rubber will grab the ring as long as you leave enough rubber around the edge.



Then remove the ring.



This actually works extremely well.
I will definitely be using this to remove the ring from now on.

This works great to remove the ring.

Dealing with that coil has been a nightmare for me because of the screw position.

Hey vape dr.,

You should get paid by Elevape for making great modifications and tools, teaching ppl how to use it optimally, and all the pictures and videos posted. It got me really interested in this thing. I wish a representative from Elevape would post on this thread. I do realize we are a very small segment of the population but some representation like the haze would be great.

Hey Mix......Joe is on here and active. The doc. just really likes to help people and the ESV is one of those devices that can sometimes require that help so we are fortunate to have him.

I'm not either but I got help from both Joe and the Doc. Between the two of them, people should feel confident they can get this thing running sweet and enjoy it like we do. It's really not too difficult and the reward is a vape that is pretty darn awesome IMO.

Thanks doc, you never fail to impress me with your resourcefulness and enginuity! As Scott said, and I can't say enough, we're all very lucky to have you here.

I've never seen those tools before, not really even sure what's what? I'm also not really so into finding stores to run out to and searching for the right plug at a different store? I dont know what I'm hoping for, I just really wish it worked for me. I think there needs to be a different tool if its this difficult to remove the ring with it. I kinda wanna try again just as is, but am a little afraid with the screen so concave. Or maybe thats good bc its even further from the coil? But without the double flat screen to lower my bowl temp consistently I don't know how useful it will be (especially when using with other people)...
And quick question, what direction would I be turning? I tried both and I can't know if either is right since it doesn't budge regardless. And should I not be worried about the fine aluminum dust I got from trying so hard to angle and turn?

EDIT:

Ok went back to trying to cram a cut indica fine screen in the concavity of my original fine Elevape screen, looms like its in pretty good when I knock it around.

And early results on level 1 are fucking fantastic, 4 hits and flying light like I wanted despite thick clouds (herb still fairly green, decent pack, maybe 2/3rds or so full but loose. No primer puff (probably dont need it at all anymore with this bigger coil right?) and trying to focus on quick inhales. Which will get trickier the more successive hits are taken...
This will be a test day, hopefully i can make it through without any combustion bc I have two friends to try it with as well.

To anyone on the outside reading my posts, know that they were only to gain help for myself and any others bc this vape is so modular. Now thats its working, I can't even describe how phenomenal it is, which is why I kept at it to get back to what I experienced in my previous posts.

And so far its already exceeding those experiences! Of course time will tell, but trust me if you are patient this vape will reward you more than any other I've used!

(also had emailed Joe last night and he responded this morning on a Saturday, so yeah Elevape has the incredible service to support it longterm as well. My retainer ring does seem unusually tough, so I may just send it in eventually. Will have to wait til other portables are useable again though)

It is a valve stem for a wheel on a car. Where you put air in your tires. Just walk into Walmart or an auto part store. They are super common. I just have a valve stem removal tool attached to my valve stem I used.

P.S.
If it helps, any gas station should have a tire valve stem (you can probably get an old one for free from a service station). they just throw the old ones away...

I was having problems removing my retainer ring. I followed some advice in here to finally get it removed. First and most important soak the ring and surrounding with ISO, then I used a rubber plug from my Pinnacle WaterTube pressed against the ring and it turned easily. I used a .5 inch fine mesh screen and I'm getting better results and less dust on my sensor.

EDIT: I have used the Elevape with the 3 screens and was still getting heat concentrated in one little area of the bowl similar to how the Thermovape T1 would vaporize. I wanted a way for the heat to somehow spread and disperse more throughout the bowl. I was considering using a hole puncher on a very fine screen, to be used to allow the heat through those holes easier, similar to the crafty's hole configuration at the bottom of its bowl. My wife suggested a large needle, which is used for heavy thread. I used this needle to punch 9 holes in the fine mesh screen and placed it just under the retainer ring. Much improved IMO. Less stirring is needed and the heat is more spread throughout the bowl. I get more flavorful hits before the char taste now.

Im thinking about trying a ceramic screen like this one if i can find some in a local head shop.

While that looks like a great idea, it may reduce the temps too much and may not fit under the retainer ring. YMMV

My main concern would be it fitting, I can always adjust my temps.
