Ain't a conspiracy bud. I've been coming to this site for quite a while now but never got around to registering. I've seen vapedg13 around on some of the other boards too and saw his complaint and it rather coincides with my complaints about the LB so I've thrown in my two cents. I also like his sense of humor.

Really though, I don't want to see a device like this give us all bad PR. We're fighting for legalization over here right now and the last thing we need is some news that some old granny somewhere lit herself up in bed using the damn thing.

Now who really killed Kennedy?

Yeah you are so right on bro! In fact I guess every vaporizer better get pulled off the market as they all heat up and could cause granny to burn herself. Why stop there, BBQ's, Stoves, Lighters; they are all a disaster waiting to happen, all defective products just waiting to burn granny!

FYI no ash means there was no combustion, vapedg13's problem is easy PEBVAC (Problem Exists Between Vape And Chair). Just look at the pictures posted, vapedg13 had many suggestions given and by looking at the 2nd photo obviously didn't listen to any of them.

Ah... I don't see any sense of humor, I'd actually like to really rip on ya but I already have warnings. Too bad easy pickins'

We all know what ABV looks like as the majority of people here have been vaporizing for many years, myself included. You said your friends Launch Box is running cooler than yours. Why haven't you tried using that one to compare to your own?

Being a bit of an arson myself, I'm here to tell ya there is more to burnt organic material than you seem to be aware. GREY ash is not the only indicator you've created combustion. Hell, ask anyone who has smoked improperly cured cannabis.

Yeah, what Lo said.

The problems you are having, 13, are extremely unusual, as evidenced by this massive thread, but it's rare for manufacturers of any kind to have an absolutely 100% perfect record on their products. So maybe you were just really unlucky and landed a defective unit. But this is Magic Flight we're talking about, and their customer service and warranty is as good as you could hope for, so hassle them about it - they'll look after you.

I thought he brought his Launch Box over because it is a portable vaporizer. :)

Nobody said anything about the ash color. What was stated was "No ash, means no combustion."

Did you even look at the picture of the black ash in his LB for christ's sake???

heres what it looked like after my 2-3rd draw from it .. ..battery was in for less than 10 secs each time ...started drawing on it when i saw the vape forming ...5-7 secs after battery made contact

makes no diff if i draw hard or soft....anyone want a free burn box? Serious!!

I will stick to the Iolite so far...the search goes on bros for a good non combustive portable vape....this one gets a 1 in my book

Wait a minute.

This load (half a load, really) is not ground fine enough. That's why it is unevenly vaporized. It is also is nowhere near combusted. There are one or two dark spots that look fully cashed, but I see nothing that is vaped to black, let alone any sign of ash. It looks like a load that was hit a couple of times but not shaken up properly. I'd simply dump this load out, crumble it finer, then hit it at least two or three more times.

Do you have a picture of a load that has actually combusted?

Wow can't believe people are complaining and arguing over this thing now. Guess it happens at some point in every thread. This thing is fucking amazing; im taking great full hits from it right now! Have been for months. If you are having problems theres a problem with your LB and they will replace it, no other explanation since its really not that hard to hit.

Ash isn't black, it's grey.

Not only that, theres no black anything in the picture. Dark brown, yes, but he hasn't taken it all the way to black let alone reached combustion.

I mean maybe your weed is different than all of ours, and i dont know, maybe thats possible. Mine goes brown evenly so something is wrong id say.

It can be both. Again I refer to poorly cured cannabis as an example.

If it's black then it hasn't burned properly, and black bits in ash (as in when poorly cured weed is smoked) just mean incomplete combustion.

Black means overcooked, and approaching the point of combustion. And there are releases of unwanted smoke compounds at those temperatures. But unless you're getting a cherry (ie glowing red), you haven't actually combusted, and you won't get ash.

i grind my herbs alot finer than what it is in that pic. i also only use really dry herbs for my LB. i mean DRY.
when i pull the bat out i make sure to give a few strong pulls to cool it down. THEN i flip it over to make sure all the herb is off the screen so it doesn't continue to heat and i'll set it down upside down.

when i first got my lb, my herbs looked just like in that pic. i would get black by the 2nd pull. since i been doing the things i stated, zero black and my abv gets to a nice deep brown.

my main point is that i really had to learn how to get the box performing the way i wanted it to. i was ready to dismiss the box after the first week but the 200 pages of love for this vape convinced me to really give it a chance and it's paying massive dividends.

anyways, i hope you get your issues sorted out cuz i really love my MFLB and i hope you get there too!

There's no doubt in my mind that the load in that picture tasted like shit. On the other hand, it's inexperienced usage I see as the culprit, not an overheating LB--for that load. That's why I asked if he had a picture of a load that did combust.

That doesn't mean his LB isn't overheating. From what vapedg13 has said, I do think his box runs too hot and he should just contact Magic-Flight for warranty service.

First off, thank you for posting pictures. That helps a lot to disambiguate what is going on.

The above assessment based on the posted pictures is correct. The following points are observed: 1) the load is not ground nearly fine enough, 2) there is clearly no evidence of combustion (carbon reduction is chemically distinct from oxidization), and 3) based on the pictured mix distribution, there was no shaking between hits. Also, based on your usage comments, it would seem that you (vapedg13) are waiting far too long from the time the battery is inserted to the time you start drawing the vapor. Put the battery in and start drawing on it immediately -- do not wait. As soon as you have finished your draw, remove the battery.

In short, based on the pictures, it is my (professional) opinion it is very unlikely to be a faulty unit.

However, based on the picture of spent ABV from your desktop vaporizer, I think that this goes beyond considerations of usage methodology. It would seem that you were expecting that the vaporizer would have a built in automatic temperature regulation -- and it does not. While I would like to recommend that you continue to try an improved usage technique, I will also suggest that the issue is really more one of misplaced expectations rather than a faulty unit. In this case, you may do better to trade your unit for something else, like a VM3 portable vaporizer, for example, that does have automatic temperature regulation, rather than to continue to attempt to experiment with the Launch Box.

To continue with your car analogy, it is as if you somehow ended up purchasing a motorcycle when you were expecting to get a suburban. While it is true that a motorcycle is smaller, more fuel efficient, and inherently more maneuverable; it does suffer the disadvantage that it will not automatically stay upright on its own (like any car would). Furthermore, they tend to not have as many features like "cruise control". Also, if a person expects to drive a motorcycle in the same manner as with any ordinary car, they will find that it is a very different experience. Also, driving any type of bike is a lot more hazardous to ones health unless certain additional precautions are taken. Blaming a bike (no matter how well built it may be) for not being like a car is something of a mistake of understanding, rather than an error of design.

I am sorry that the Launch Box is not what you are looking for. Based on your stated preferences (electric auto regulated portable), I think you would have done better to have purchased something like a VM3.

Does anyone with powerex batteries store them in the plastic cases they came with? It looks like they might touch side by side. Has this been an issue with anyone?

thats what i'm doing - no issues - just dont touch the + end to anything. i flip the battery upside down in the holder when its used, easy way to keep track. The powerex's sure work nicely with the box, I haven't used the stock batteries in a while..
