Arizer Solo

I've been some days unplugged; and I see the thread went on for so long... sorry for going back to my subject some pages ago; about Solo safety...

You're right Quetzalcoatl, I read about bad smell on the first hundreds pages... I'm glad it is set now; that means one more point towards Solo, in my mental score : )

About the cleanness of the air path; I found a post many pages ago (I landed on it when I google about "glue" and "Arizer Solo" to see if glue chemicals could affect air path. Well, it was a very impolite post from a user (Fail) who complaint about having found glue and other dubious materials when he explored
his Solo guts http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/arizer-solo.3833/page-412#post-310868

Unfortunately, due to his / her bad manners, the argument was not fully developed. I am a bit OCD (well, actually I am OCD : ) and so, I beg you pardon about my insistence: but did any of you happen to open your solo? did you encountered any glue or poor quality components?

Thanks for your patience : )
I will try and be patient.

1st. I have many vaporizer however the SOLO is the easiest to customize.
2nd. The flavor profile is very pleasant!
3rd. Health is a major concern for me since I'm sensitive to whatever I consume.
4th. I hope your as careful with what you eat as well?
5th. Your unplugged?

Combustion vs. Vaporization?

OCD sorry!

Oh No! My solo just went cuckoo!

M1D2 solo just bought less than 2 months ago from puffitup.

The unit first started going off at random points in the cycle, sometimes in 8 mins, sometimes in 3mins and sometimes would go the whole 12 min session.

Yesterday, once the unit was fully charged i switched it on and it went off immediately, tried again, and again went off. i tried plugging it (via the charger) back into the charger and switching on, but same result, goes off and into charge mode.

i left it overnight and tried it again in the morning, now the solo decides to turn on and stays on idle BUT if i move the temp setting to anything (1-7) it would just go off again.

i read somewhere that you could do a soft reset, tried that, but didn't work (or I'm not doing it properly, the instructions are not clear enough!). Out of frustration i decided to do all sort of weird combinations with the solo in the hope of resetting it i.e. hold the arrow buttons down together for 20 seconds, hold the up arrow for 5 seconds then the down one for 5 seconds etc. Basically a whole heap of nonsense and left the solo for a few hours to be.

My final attempt of silly combos was just let it sit on idle for 5 mins and then slowly bump the temp upto 7....guess what it worked! Got through a 12 min cycle! but when i tried to do it again.....it was back to square 1 (straight off)

STUMPED!

I know i have warranty for the unit but, i live in asia and returning it is going to be a hassle

If you explain your situation to Randy at puffitup, I am sure they will ship you a new device the second you are able to show them that the defective device was dropped off at the Post (ie: get them a tracking number ASAP) ? He had been SUPER helpful in the one situation I had.

OR

Try unscrewing the bottom of the device, opening it up, and unplugging the battery pack. then plugging it back in??

Yes, many of us have poked around inside ours a fair bit. I've been 'all over' 3 myself.

My take is also the fellow was way out of line. While I don't think we should argue about anything, there was (and IMO still is) little reason to do more than say 'I don't buy this....'.

First off, based on dates, he bought a used unit somewhere. My guess is the smell he reported (that nobody else has......) was involved there, perhaps in packing? The 'cement like glue' really is cement. Furnace cement, a very common and quite safe product. Once dried out (typically water solvent) and cured, it'll typically take over 2000 degrees as that's it's intended function. Cements of this type don't degrade below that and (important to us) stand up well to water vapor.

The plastic used is indeed glass fiber enforced, as is normal in such plastics (helps fight 'softening' amongst other good things). Exactly what you'd expect a sharp designer to use. Totally appropriate to the task. The ovens don't degrade or fail. There are 25,000 posts on this thread, not a single one discussing a failed oven that wasn't tampered with AFAIK? My 'loaner' Solo, used enough to be on it's second battery, thousands of sessions over more than a dozen users, showed no signs of any issues last time I was inside it.

The electronic components you can identify (the basic board, integrated circuits, batteries and other commercial parts) are all top notch stuff, construction in terms of workmanship, lead dress and so on faultless.

Guys sometimes cite the clips on the oven (one not clipped on theirs) or the gap at the seam (common with this type of plastic) but the clips are used only to keep the oven together as a sub assembly it seems, once installed the screws do the job.

Don't let some guy not even using his real name scare you off with his issues. IMO the Solo really is as good as the rest of us say.

Your call, but IMO you won't regret this one any more than any of us did our choice. Lots of us own more than one.......that too is a clue.

"Come on in, the water's fine".

I have tried the m1a model but want to know what are the improvements on the newer model? Is it worth the upgrade? Has anyone made a review for the newer model solo yet?

A change in the charging circuit so you can charge it and use it at the same time, like a cell phone. This comes at the expense of the IMO quite useful PA mode. The airflow was also 'opened up' like the PVHES does.

You decide if either is really an improvement. Easier draw means thinner vapor that's easier to get. The new charge scheme is easier for those who don't pay attention and get caught with a dead battery (they don't have to wait the 20 minutes needed to charge up enough for a session) but in theory (and it seems practice?) this means we'll be getting shorter battery life. Many will leave it plugged in 'so it's always ready to go' like folks do with cell phones and laptops that use this scheme and therefore will face the 'cell phone or laptop that now only works when plugged in' we all know examples of. Only the Solo, in such cases, probably won't work plugged in even then since it still depends heavily on the battery to supply the over half of the power needed (over 2 Amps) the heater needs when on the (one Amp) supply can't. Unlike your cell phone or laptop (or the prior Solo in fact) it won't run without a battery.

If you buy new, you probably don't have a choice. If you do find the older model, you might consider it seriously. The 'rash' of problems with 'brand new' units might be a net induced ghost but the dependable performance of the older model is beyond question IMO.

Good luck with it, either way it's a good performer you should be happy.

If you have the older model, in my opinion it's not worth the upgrade. But if you want a back up, I say yes
It's worth it. I have peace of mind that I have a back up if my other model doesn't work. I use my Solo,as my daily driver. It's not so hard on the one unit, I can trade off"

I use it on the go too. Now that I have an Eds Granadillo wooden stem. It gives a wonderful taste to the vapor. Just tried it out. I also like the draw. It has just the right resistance IMO.

does anyone know if the solo will automatically stop charging if its left plugged in? I seem to have left it at home charging the other day when I left for school.. I won't be able to go home until the weekend & now I'm afraid that it will be fried by the time I'm able to unplug it :(

It should be OK. It doesn't do the batteries any favors. FC member OF says it shortens the life of the battery overall. It should still be working fine when you get there.

I agree, any problem is cumulative. I wouldn't make a practice of it, but it remains your call.

In any event, enjoy the Solo, don't obsess over it?

so Randy from pui has already sent me a label(hes is the man) ,sent my solo(m1e) in this morning. This is my second solo i've sent in in two months. Hopefully 3rd one is THE charm.

Would really want to know what i'm doing wrong or if anything i'm doing that is causing the solo to turn defective after 1 month(defective=solo turning off randomly after 1 min, 20 seconds, 5 seconds, 4 min, 8 min also when plugged in and turned on just keeps restarting over and over again). But I had the m1d and the m1e both faced the same exact problem going basically dead(defective) after 1 month. I never used it while charging, never let the battery die out, never let it over charge, kept the chamber clean, always used the solo in one room(dont travel with it) not one drop not one scuff. Worked like a GEM up until yesterday.

There are only 2 things I can think of that can cause these solos to go bad:
One is the charger that comes with it, or two being I should not use the solo two sessions in a row. Meaning I should not after 1 twelve minute session, take out the stem stir it and have another 12 min session.

But after reading through this thread, these two possibilities just seem they CANT be the cause, because mostly everyone uses the charger that comes with it, and ALOT of you do two sessions in a row .

so i'm just left in PURE CONFUSION and no solo for a week:(

I feel your pain. I'm very low on flowers, so I ordered a Persei for oil but it arrived with a bad battery:doh:. I've decided since the Solo works so well, I should get a 2nd one so the charging schedule can be adhered to better and if there is a major problem there will still be a Solo to use.

Whats that silver grommet at the base of your straight stem?
It's just a rubber grommet. Can't remember what that's on there for. Probably when I was experimenting with my Pinnacle Water Tool connecton and forgot to take it off. I found just a bit of tubing on the end of the stem works as well as anything. Course at this point I just just my gong conversion for that.

@Pinnacle Pro did a few posts and i 1 a few pages back.

If anything, experimenting with a march2014 lead me to switch to oem stem on my old may2013 and prefer it to the pvhes. I found out i can get bigger clouds this way.

I think the upgrade is the faster heating time and bigger oem battery life has been reported. And garanteed 5 celcius degrees more at level 5( I guess it has +5 or more every level, but march2014 level 4 equals or is hotter than my may2013 at level 5)

As @Pinnacle Pro said, excellent as a backup unit. But not enough difference from the previous built to satisfy a VAS fix if you already have a solo and a backup portable vape. imho

HEy guys, so I wanted to a post on how im loving my solo after 6 weeks now (and I am/was), but I just started having some troubling issues that began after using my new eds stem (not sure if its related, but the metal does seem to work differently than the glass?) Though the issue itself began using glass (after using the metal/wood on 7 in a bong).

Anyway, basically what it does is sometimes after turing it on, instead of going to idle first its at one, and then when heating it fluctuates up and down, even higher than the temp I set sometimes, before either settling, or shutting off. Sometimes it will even work and turn on as usual, I even had a normal session (not 12 min tho), but also once in the middle of a fine session it would do that, both while I was inhaling and just sitting. (One thing that was odd with the wooden stem was that using the bong with it the temp would drop one or two with a big hit, before rising back up once stop inhaling, never saw that before with the glass, I guess bc the metal conducts too?). Finally to make matters worse, I think at one point, while it was dancing up and down, I continued to inhale, getting vapor, but it tasted a little off. Part of me thought it was just towards the end of the bowl (and it was), but given how everything seems I was afraid of some kinda offgas.

And so I have unscrewed the top to see that the little tab that sticks out a little on left, well there isn't one on the right! (And it might smell a little over there? Hard to tell For sure) And there is an exposed wire, and inside of the material of the oven (white) is exposed. But here's the thing, there's no piece, dangling or fell out or anything. So maybe it has been like this the whole time anyway? I never opened it until now.

So basically has anyone experience anything like any of what I've said before? Is my only course of action to contact arizer? (Bought from an eBay seller in Cali). So happy otherwise, but this scares/frustrates me...

EDIT: the smell is most definitely coming from the oven itself, not that little "hole" broken thing. Kinda smells plasticky?

Also other weird thing, after it shuts off it kinda comes back some times, or the idle light glimmers a little. Cuz it didn't get its 12min session but was confused and trying. Its an M1D btw. Is it just a dud? Anybody with experience exchanging through arizer? Thanks!!

Thanks @Dr. Soxhlet

Mine was from Allstarwholesales, finally got in touch with them via web chat (no answer on phone or eBay message), and looks like they don't do what myrubberneck does, said I'll have to contact Arizer about warranty or trouble shoot.

Went on to Arizer, and I guess I have to register the warranty first? Not home yet so can't read warranty number of box yet to register. I guess after that I can contact them about fixing/replacing my solo? Anyone have experience with this? How long will I be without my solo/how long for them to inspect it and determine if I can get a new one, plus shipping? Will I have to pay shipping?

Thanks again guys, hopefully I won't have to go too long without my new best friend... Wanted to show you guys how I've been rocking it, guess I'll show an even newer one, meanwhile I guess it's back to the T1...

Corncerning warranties:
As an ebay power seller myself since 1998, I have no problem buying stuff off of ebay. The thing to remember is there are good, bad and so-so sellers as well as the occasional total scam artist. Check their feedback. My own feedback rating is 100%. Hard to keep it there, but it is possible, if you are an honest vender. I usually won't buy from someone with less than 99% or so. Even then, check their feedback; see if they have been having problems lately. When I bought my Solo I looked for that Authorized Arizer Seller logo. And remember the cardinal rule: If the price seems to good to be true, it is most likely a scam.
With that said, I believe that at least some of the companies that sponser/support this site(found by clicking the "Friends" tab) can come close to or even match ebay prices on many products. It's worth checking; usually better service and a warranty are yours this way.

As far as getting this one fixed, get ahold of Arizer. I think they make you pay shipping both ways(?), but there is the possibility of getting it repaired in the US, I think. Contact Arizer.

Ah PIU, how I do love thee and your warranty replacement policy.
I believe the warranty on the solo is 2 years from PIU but I may be mistaken or it may of changed. I would honestly pay more for another year with how great of a person Randy at PIU is.

Guess what I found inside??? Here's a clue:

Wow!!! My wife just called and said she just located a set of Trustfire batteries for my Persei at a local Vape Shop. Sooooo, it's oil city tonight!!!

I agree, a real cowboy has a back up for mission critical gear. It doesn't need to be another Solo, in fact I suggest you consider something that would otherwise be fun and different. Maybe a VG? Or MFLB? One of my personal favorites is the Vapman. You should be able to get a solid (and useful as well as fun) backup for maybe half the price of another Solo and have insurance and variety?

I wouldn't put too much stock in those numbers, we know for sure that all m1ds are not the same. The key change seems to be 'can it heat with the charger plugged in?'. The later ones do, and it seems there's an uptick in early problems with them in several directions. Hopefully it'll get sorted out quickly and completely. Arizer has that sort of history.

Good luck with number 3.

Thanks again, yeah I'm pretty experienced eBay shopping, I know how to handle it. They're well reviewed and an authorized retailer (actually it cost even more than myrubberneck, $140 vs $130, but had a nicer free grinder and 2 day free shipping). I'll report back when i hear from Arizer I guess...

Yeah. I have to admit the "extra" I got from myrubberneck was cheezy in the extreme and not even vapor related.
