Seeking simple handheld ceramic vape

I'm a simple man with simple tastes. I just want a handheld ceramic vape I can smoke directly out of.

When I bought my ex her VaporCannon, the plastic whip became really pliable and soft after the first few weeks of use which raised a big red flag for me

a.) heating plastic and then breathing it = bad idea, always
b.) if the plastic is getting softer it's absolutely being affected by the heat regardless of what the specs say about saftey
c.) laws in the US are designed to protect $$$$$, not people, and the US govt will never stop and say "this gives you cancer" as long as they are in bed with Big Plastic

So I ended up just removing the whip, holding the vape up to my face, mating the glass ceramic-housing with the glass bowl and just smoking right out of the bowl. (meaning i used it exactly the same way except without the plastic whip between the bowl and my mouth) - it worked perfectly, never too hot to smoke, and ZERO plastic involved.

Then me and my ex broke up .. bummer.

So now that I want my own vape, i really want the same setup - My options seem incredibly limited.

At first I was crazy about the Purple Days because it seemed exactly like the setup I had before - lift unit up to face, smoke through small short mouthpiece, zero guesswork. So I tried ordering one - for 2 months.

After 2 months of trying desperately, emailing back and forth, being told I could get one "beginning of April", frantically emailing from april 1-april 10, then being told there's a "limited stock sale at "7pm" on april 15" (7pm eastern, i assumed, only to end up sitting in front of my computer till 10pm cause it was 7pm pacific - at which point a new paragraph flashed on the screen saying "SORRY NOTHING FOR SALE HERE, VAPENOW WILL BE OUR EXCLUSIVE VENDOR FROM NOW ON" - Guess what vapenow's website said? Yeah. - Anyway, after using a friends Purple Days, I dont like the taste of the stainless steel and dont like the fact that the bowl is teeeeeeeny tiny and plastic, and to be honest have to pull like crazy to get a decent hit out of that thing.

If only I could get a purple days with a ceramic heating element instead of stainless steel.. *sigh*

So now I saw this thing called the Heat Wand? from Vriptech i think? which is essentially the same as all the other ceramic vapes (vaporcannon, buddah, ssv) minus the housing. Except from what i hear it's still in beta? or something? and doesn't come with a basic glass mouthpiece to mate directly to the wand and smoke out of?

I'm confuzzled :( I wish i had the time and tools (and money) to make my own perfect vape like so many others started out...

What should I do?

On this note, I should ask if anyone has seen a modded ceramic heater (like VaporWarez) that is easier to hold, (housing modification)

ALSO,

if anyone has a used vaporwarez they want to sell me for cheap for an experiment :D

A question and a couple of comments. Stainless steel has a taste? How does it taste different than ceramic?

The bowl isn't plastic but stainless also, and yeah, it is teeeeny, but for a reason. Efficiency. And ya really don't have to pull like crazy. Just hit it like you would a joint, by not locking your lips around the stem and taking in air along with the vapor. Also, if you use the suck method of loading and use very dry finely ground up herb, it should work great.

I know the PD is not for everyone, but I'm just curious if it was user error that caused you not to like it.

I have no info on the VripTech. Others here do tho, I am sure.

Good luck in your search and welcome aborad.

hey theartialmartist
Welcome to FC

you have a few options:
get the SSV/DBV and change the whip to high grade silicone one ?
get a herborizer ?
get a vapor genie ? (you said no plastic so its an options, but i would get one of the other options)
don't know much about the VHW so I'll leave that to someone else.

about the PD having a small "bowl" you gotta learn something very important, sometimes (not always, no matter what they tell you, it does matter in sex ;) ) size doesn't matter, its what you do with it...
never herd of a metallic taste problem with the PD, was that a brand new unit you tested ? (might explain it)

It does have a ceramic element. The heat exchanger is stainless steel.

heating plastic and then breathing it = bad idea, always
There are all grades of plastic. You talk as if they're all the same. That's like saying all metals are the same as far as safety. Which vape are you referring to where the plastic gets soft with use? Is this just something you've heard someone say? And why do you assume that all ceramic elements are the same? I can tell you that they're not.

Just how hot do you think the various plastics in vapes get? Did you ever try measuring the temp 4-6" above the burner on a stove set at medium? It's a considerable drop in temp.

If all plastics and metals are 'out' for you, buy a vape with an all glass vapor path. The Vapolution is a good vape and doesn't even use a screen. There are others as well.

The problems with your flame, theartialmartist.

a) I was very specific about 7PM Pacific time. We are a world wide operation, not Eastern Time specific. Matter of fact we live on the West coast and felt that 7PM Pacific / 10PM Easten would give everyone in North America the most opportunity to be home at the planned hour. You didn't read very well and blame me for wasting your time?

b) I'll quote you, "So I tried ordering one - for 2 months. ...
After 2 months of trying desperately, emailing back and forth, being told I could get one "beginning of April", frantically emailing from april 1-april 10..." Frantically e-mailing was the cause of our going to a professional re-seller. You along with many other started your e-mails in a fashion such as, 'I know you are terribly busy and have said you are not taking orders, but would you stop everything and tell me again that you are busy filling orders and not taking them?'

I wrote a generic e-mail to folks who asked that kind of question, gave our intentions at the time. Dozens upon dozens of e-mails, including apparently, your multiple 'frantic' requests.

the e-mail said, "We will take orders on the 1st and 15th of each month at 7PM Pacific Time. When the available units for that 2 week period are sold, sales will be halted till the next order date. " You were never promised a PD and some folks like you made us change our plans.

The e-mail continued, "When our shop is finished we will start taking new orders. That should be April`15th." Should be... not will be. We changed plans and made an announcement on April 15 at 7PM Pacific. You were never, "told I could get one"

c) You did not try, "ordering one - for 2 months." We stopped sales (in order to catch up) about mid-day on March 20, and your first post, here on this thread is April 19, less than a month after sales were halted. NOT 2 months.

d) Again I will quote you, "i assumed, only to end up sitting in front of my computer till 10pm cause it was 7pm pacific - at which point a new paragraph flashed on the screen saying "SORRY NOTHING FOR SALE HERE, VAPENOW WILL BE OUR EXCLUSIVE VENDOR FROM NOW ON" You use quotes around words that we never said or published, what a wad...

Here is what was published and has not been changed, anyone can go to our site and take a look.

April 15, 2009 : We are proud to announce
VapeNow is the exclusive North American
distributor of Purple-Days Diffusers.
Pammy and I will still build each one. We are
dedicated to building a quality product.
Our partners at VapeNow are a great team and
can handle all your needs.

Making up words and putting quotation marks around them, is un-dignified. Stupid, since people can check the facts.

The rest of your mis-information is pretty funny too. Plastic bowl, the taste of stainless, the stainless heating element, etc.

Good luck in your quest, and your life.

@ Mr. PD

now that's a 420 post if I have EVER seen one

it's a real shame Tom that people have 'turned against' the ;pd; lately...seems if they cant get it as fast as a factory produced vape they are willing to create a whole thread of miss-information. :disgust:

this is at least the third or fourth person, so far, I have seen talking shit about the PD since the new changes have been made..that's three to four too many. People just cant grip the idea that its a 2 person production team out in Oregon that make these little wooden friends for people. I know this had been said before, but CUT TOM AND PAM SOME SLACK! These are true Americans right here making a product for all of us to love and enjoy with friends/family...don't make the start of all that with filth towards the guy making you a ;pd; :)

...oh yeah and welcome to FC theartialmartist ;)

A.) Wow, first of all, it wasn't a flame! I was a little frustrated that I tried to buy one for so long and failed miserably, I never said anything bad about you guys and I appreciate your replies to a few of my emails, it's just that it said 7PM and not 7PM PST

B.) Sorry for emailing you! WOW! the first thing I said to you guys was you seem to have a really great quality product and everyone loves you, and i'm really impressed (and can't wait to get my hands on one etc), I have no idea where all this hostility is coming from.

C.) I just joined this forum like 3 days ago, that has nothing to do with how long i've been trying to buy a PD

D.) I was paraphrasing the 'sorry nothing for sale here' thing, i shouldn't have used quotes, but your use of quotes in saying "do you mind dropping everything to answer me" is just as bad, what i really did was mostly pathetic begging and don't remember ever once being rude (why would i?)

And jeebus! Did i say plastic bowl instead of plastic mouthpiece? i'm sorry! are you guys having that much trouble finding customers that 1 schmuck saying "plastic bowl" instead of "plastic mouthpiece" on some forum somewhere is a reason to tell me "GOOD LUCK IN LIFE!"? Mean :(

I have good friends that talk to you guys often and everyone loves you. I have no idea why you would talk down to me in such a manner for trying to give you my money.

P.S. I've used the PD and loved it. Please don't rip my second testicle off, friend, i'd like to have kids someday :(

Happy 420.

Good example of how easy it is to get off on the wrong foot with the written word. First of all, you should have stated your preferences in a vape in a way that wouldn't have come across as criticizing the materials that others are happy with. Then you add in criticism of Tom's new business policy, which is currently a touchy subject. Bad introduction when you don't know the history. :/

If you'd like to forget the rough introduction to the forum and start over, I think you'll find us willing to oblige. But I think you need to take some responsibility for the flack that came your way. As I commented to someone else today who had a bad start, you shouldn't come into a new forum like a bull in a china shop. You need to go with the waves instead of making them. You can splash us later, when we know you a bit better.

Wow he just got bitch slapped. For what it's worth I think he was just trying to write with a bit of sarcasm before he caught his beatdown. Wish the whole PD thing would blow over already. I can see it from both sides. From Tom's end I fix computers for a living so I know how it is to constantly have people want theirs fixed now and nobody else matters even though you have a list of 50 other people that have been waiting patiently for days. I too have had a million I know you guys are busy but... comments. They are just plain rude. If you know we are busy then patiently wait your turn like everyone else as the time I waste telling you to be patient I could be that much closer to getting to yours. So from Tom's end I totally get it and he had to do what he did to keep from burning out. You can only go on so long before you start to resent people. So its a great thing that Tom can now stop worrying about those negative vibes and get back to building a quality product. In fact it gives him more time to get these things out so in the future they should roll out more smoothly so why complain about it? He did what he did and guess what he really doesn't have to make them at all. I think people don't understand the value of a hand crafted item. It isn't like these things are being run off an assembly line. They really are a piece of art and those of us who have them consider ourselves lucky to own one. I think the I'm the consumer and he owes me one is the wrong attitude when it comes to this case.

On the other hand I can understand the opposing viewpoint as well. It really is a great product and people anxiously want to get their hands on them. Many have been waiting and now they have to wait even longer and they are naturally upset. I can understand the frustration and I'm sure the folks at PD do as well but realistically what other recourse did they have? Keep taking on more and more and fall further and further behind until they eventually burn out and stop making them all together? Or do what they did and slow it down to the point that it is once again enjoyable and everyone will eventually get one not just the initial rush before the burn out. The frustration though is understandable so I can see why they want to vent. Either way though bitching about it isn't going to change anything. One of my favorite quotes comes from the show deadliest catch it was something like whining is kind of like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it really doesn't get you anywhere. So it may not be fair it may be frustrating but in short it had to be done and it is what it is so get over it.

Your gonna catch flack but I'll be civil about it. Read through the PD thread and you'll see why this post sounds uninformed. As stated before the resistor is ceramic the heat exchanger is made out of SS which is perfectly safe at the low temps we use and it doesn't impart a flavor on the vapor. But asking him to scrap his design and build you one with ceramic is like someone walking into your shop and telling you they don't want Windows or OSX but could you please just whip up a custom OS right quick if I ask nice? Doesn't make much sense so I doubt you'll get a response and if you do it won't be kind. Again though I think this is your attempt at humor though some people just won't get it.
