The Herbalizer

I am running behind the group here, but just catching up on some replies.

So this hasn't happened since the first week I had my unit and has only happened 3 or 4 times total, but this morning, I was playing around with the temperature when suddenly the unit shot straight to 445 and stayed there. I was unable to change the temperature or turn the fan on. Turning the unit off and on would result in Herbie getting stuck at the "limited edition" startup screen. Couldn't get into either operating mode or run the fan. Unplugging the unit and plugging it back in seemed to fix the issue. This isn't a huge deal but I'm wondering if it has happened to anyone else?

Yes this happened to me, one time a long time ago. Software glitch for sure.

Herbalizer cleaning tip.

I've noticed that only the top screen gets dirty on my Herbalizer. I was iso soaking mine to get it clean.
The last few times my screen needed cleaning I just swapped the top and bottom screen location. Putting the top dirty screen on bottom burns it clean with normal use. Much easier and no downtime.

That's brilliant!

I got a new credit card last week it's sole purpose is to ready and available the moment they release/pre-release a international herbie, I don't want any of life's little financial swerve balls getting in the way when the time finally gets here
I have also decided I am sold on the Herbie and am keenly anticipating the international release. Can anyone tell me is it possible to order the current model and use it with a step up/down converter? Or would it be more sensible to just keep waiting? Herbie seems like a pretty clear contender to the heavyweight belt as far as I can see and I really want one as soon as possible :)

I might actually be moving to Europe from the US, for good and I bought a herbie not too long ago. I emailed the herbalizer team and one of their people, Sheila replied with this

I am sorry I do not have better news for you on this one. We don't recommend that you use it with a 220V as the transformers are unreliable as I have discovered with other devices on my own travels. I have had computers and hair dryers get fried using recommended transformers/converters. We are also not selling outside of the US and Canada until we get them to be 220 because we don't know what the ramifications could be even though we have had quite a bit of demand from the EU.

I wish I could be of more help but I don't want to see anything happen to your Herbie and totally understand the desire to travel with him/her.

I found this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRAVEL-VOLT...Z-/141134913109?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

Could this possibly work? Anyone? I am afraid I bought an awesome product that I won't be able to use for the next year ;/

I would not risk it if it was my Herbie.
IIRC it was mentioned that Herbie runs on one frequency only - NOT 50/60.

I do not think it is worth frying a circuit board because of an incorrect voltage transformer.

I guess the only situation i would be comfortable using Herbie attached to a transformer would be a very expensive lab grade transformer that you can accurately set the individual parameters to exactly match the recommended parameters, but i would still not do it...

Can you provide any examples of such transformers?

Ah.... but they did give you an answer..

.. you just did not like the answer.

This is not a matter of 'liking the answer'. If they told me, "herbie was designed in such and such way that we are one hundred percent certain you will fuck it up with ANY converter known to man" then I'd just admit defeat and sell my herbie before I leave in two months.

Obviously they can't recommend something since if something goes wrong I can't blame them. Which I totally understand but whatever I do to the device now it's on me. I am stuck. And unless you can contribute something meaningful to my predicament, don't waste your time replying on this matter anymore.

Play nice with senior members please... Even if you do not like the answer given.

One thing i might have overlooked is the phase of the voltage in different countries.
Most of Europe use 3 phase power because it is 220/240V, lots of variance in voltage.
I know the Herbalizer team has said that they do not recommend using a converter because of the differences in voltage and frequency. And Herbie is no simple log vape that runs easily off a converter.

At the end of the day i think it is best to do your own research and do whatever you want to with your Herbie.
If you can find a firend over there and ask them to find out what is available there that would work.
Trying to search out equipment not used generally in North America is kind of long winded and can sometimes be misleading.
Check the bottom of your Herbie and it will tell you exactly what you need to supply, i think it is 110V at 60Hz.

I see the biggest issue being that 220V current is 3 pole and trying to find the correct converter to step down to 110V 60Hz from the 220V. Local help may be your only help here.

And like you said, it is your unit to do whatever you want to with.
Trial and error may be the only way but it could also potentially lead to a dead $600+ vape...

Whatever you do i wish you luck!

We use a product similar to this in our testing lab at work. Here is one example.
http://www.advancedpowercontrols.com/eafp2.htm

Our unit at work was installed by a professional electrician. We test using a scope to validate the output voltages and frequency is correct after we change the setting every time. I'm not aware of any home units, but I'm sure somebody out there makes one.

I still would not connect my precious Herbie to anything other than US 110v/60hz unless I had enough money to buy a new one just in case.

Here is a link to that might be worth checking out. I am in no way quailifed to say if these will work or not work. But hope it helps.

Couple of quick questions before I reread the thread.

Is the bowl always left on the unit?
Is it bad to leave the bowl on for a long time?
How many bags per a .2gish pack? 3?
Uses for brush?

I might actually be moving to Europe from the US, for good and I bought a herbie not too long ago.

I've been to most of the continents and had to deal with some power issues/weirdness. Most of EU should be no concern. [The two I haven't been are Asia and Africa and they might have unique issues of their own. Of course I wouldn't know about issues there firsthand.] Just remember that cheap products are cheap, and I don't think you'll have an issue. Don't go down to the dollar store to buy your transformer.

I haven't blown anything up.
Yet.

Josh doesn't think it is an issue either and has ordered a unit to test it. If it well-built and works as it should, he'll get a recommendation out for everyone here.

Sure.. if you want.. I leave mine on always.

No

3-7 depending on how thin you let the vapor get.
Uses for brush?
To brush out the bowl after emptying, and brush off the screen when it is full of debris.

Now that PlanetVape is carrying it ... its got my attention ... but for a whip/bag based vape the price tag of $750+tax seems pretty crazy (and I own a MiniVAP, Sublimator, 2 EVO's, ..., so its not like I'm adverse to spending money on vapes ... however ...)

I'd like to get one, but whip and bag are 2 methods that I've previously not enjoyed very much so seems like a ton of money ...

Anyone that owns an EVO or Cloud able to pipe in? How does it compare? Is it really worth the price tag? Does it offer a different enough experience to be worth adding it to my arsenal?
