Well, my PD is still about a week away, but form what I've read from others I understand that you really need some 'padding' for kief. That is, a pinch of less finely ground to keep the kief from falling through or clogging the mesh. This will also increases surface area, as kief is otherwise very dense and won't let air pass through it easily, as you have clearly discovered.graywulf said:

Let's hope they haven't fucked up plain old cotton balls and swabs with chemicals. 
If you're worried about it, cut a tiny piece of cloth from old underwear. Those labels say 100% cotton. Of course you've probably washed that underwear a hundred times with chemical laden detergents.

i actually ran into this problem the other day. Didn't really have anything too use too sandwich the kief in... I ended up just using ABV... worked very nicely. The only thing I had too watch out for packing it too tightly.

Interesting concept. I'd probably opt for using kief as topping over "legal" alternative material that you see advertised in High Times, etc., if there's no other option. there's no question in my mind that today's cotton has been chemically treated - bleached, etc.max said:Definitely use kief as a 'topper', like ice cream on a piece of apple pie.
If all you have is kief, add it on top of padding, as suggested. A piece of cotton swab would give good airflow.

highendvapes, voltage determines temperature. That's about the equal of a car alternator and will make the unit hotter. Usually there is more air circulating in a car and that moderates the PD temperature on the higher voltage (to some extent). Using 13.5V indoors (constantly, without the added air circulation to cool the body and compensate) may lead to shorter wood lifespan and possibly shorten electronics life also. This is all covered earlier, but needs mention once in a while.
The PD is meant to operate on 12V wall power and is in the vapor zone at that voltage. Higher temps release undesireable compounds and it was not our intention to make a high temp (or variable temp) vape. Though you are welcome to explore and experiment.
Generally we recommend a can coozie for those who want to bump the temp, or need the extra insulation for a cool climate.
Your smiley #2 says it, high temps = a more smoke like (and harsher) experience.

Ive played with this thing in every conceivable variation when it comes to toying with the heat. 9v,12v,13.5v, with and without coozies at all voltages, and keeping the top covered. I personally like to use it with either 12v with the coozy, or as of late 13.5 with no coozy. Like Tom said, it is harsher, closer to smoke, but I find that it isnt burning the load and the large draws coming off of it are on par with my SSV and Extreme. I'm sure the hotter temps will no doubt take a toll on the longevity of the wood, and possibly the electronics, but I'm willing to be the guinea pig. Keep in mind, my pd is NOT COVERED BY WARRENTY!!!
