Hi everyone!

First of all, thanks for all the great info I've found in this thread!
My first Solo is on its way and should be here within the next couple of days, I got a good deal from Randy at PIU and so far I am very impressed by them!
I also bought a case and a PVHEGonG from vapefiend.co.uk.

I do need you guys opinions on some glass though, do you think this bubbler would pair up well with the Solo?
http://www.brotherswithglass.com/Bent_Glassworks_Nighthawk_8_Arm_Tree_Bubbler_p/bwg-bgb738.htm

My main concern is its height (8"), and the somewhat small "chamber".
I've never used a Solo so I don't know if the piece will be too small to function well.

Have a good one!
Looks good, I have a sidecar with a similar size and the Solo milks it easily and quickly. Hell, I'd try my Solo on something as small as a Beer rig, should retain lots of flavor since they need so little water.

Going to take a closer look now, but I had just begun a session on the Solo. Was at temperature level 2, when all of a sudden, the vapor production ENTIRELY stopped, and the air I was pulling through felt abnormally warm.

Anyone ever experience this before?

Edit -- examined the stem and bowl of the Solo and saw nothing obviously wrong. Booting it back up to try resuming my session... will report what happens.

Started the vape at temp 2, and had the exact same experience -- hot air coming through, and no vapor. Bumped the temp up to 3, and slowly but surely, the temperature of the air decreased, and the amount of vapor coming through increased. Still, the air is hotter than normal, and the amount of vapor is less than normal.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

For whatever it's worth, I notice a bunch of gunk in my stem, that appears to just recently have come through. Wondering if my screen is peeling at the edge. Will finish this session and examine further.

Haven't had this happen before. Was this starting off a preheated stem? Strain a Sativa/Indica/Hybrid?

I agree with @DDave thinking along the lines of material. I have this Lavender Kush right now that was frustrating me yesterday. Doesn't really produce much vapor and even at 7 it doesn't go coffee dark like other strains. Dried a bit out and I'm getting better vapor but it still won't vape dark. It really tapers off on vapor production at a point though so it must be getting vaped. My first stem of this stuff was warm air with no real vapor due to the water content. Also, at 2 I wouldn't expect an awful lot of vapor. Does the warm air taste like vapor or just warm air? If it tastes like the bud but there's no vapor on exhale you're probably getting little vapor out of it to begin with, and you're absorbing it on the inhale.

I had gotten 2-3 cooler, vapor-filled hits at temperature level 2. I had just begun the session, but then on the 4th hit, it was obvious to me that something was wrong/malfunctioning. It wasn't an issue at the start of the bowl -- only after a few hits in, and it occurred immediately, nothing gradual about it.

Absolutely agreed with @Quetzalcoatl! Especially regarding the strain. Have had strains that wouldn't produce visible vapor till around 195C, like other strains which seem more common to start around 160C.

Maybe try another strain?

Another thought... what level of charge did you have on your battery at the time? Do you have a model that you can use plugged in?

Hmm, okay... Did the stem move by chance? Maybe tilted in such a way that too much air flowed through and dropped the heat to "no vapor" range?

Levels 2 & 3 don't ordinarily produce much 'visible' vapor but do render an effect. Draw speed will also effect perceived air-vapor temperature through the stem (e.g., fast draw/cooler feel, slow draw/warmer feel). How does your Solo perform when used at levels 5-7 with a slooow draw?

Hey Snappo, I know the question wasn't aimed at me, but so Herd Giver has a basis for comparison, at 5-7 with topshelf and a slow draw, it's Cloud City!

That was exactly my point. Thanks for reaffirming! - Higher temps should produce more vapor and give a basis for comparison. From there he is armed with more performance data.

I dunno, he said he got a few good pulls and suddenly only warm air. I asked about stem placement because if I tilt my bent stem a certain way the airflow really opens up, enough to really thin hits out if I try.

I appreciate the feedback, and while I entirely understand where you all are coming from, this was clearly an issue beyond a simple need to increase temperature.

I was on level 2 with relatively dry herb. I was getting rather big rips on my first, second, and third hits -- each one a bit bigger than the previous. Then, on the fourth hit, ZERO vapor came through -- none. Went from having clean, and what I consider rather BIG hits, to having absolutely nothing at all. And as I mentioned, the air coming through was noticeably hotter than the air on the previous hit.

I'm thinking it was related to something going on in the bowl of the stem, and not a mechanical malfunction with the Solo. Reason I'm thinking this, is because when emptying the stem after that session, the herb was very sticky, and was essentially stuck to the stem. It didn't fall out like every previous chamber-full (that I can recall) has -- it was gunked up. Something went a bit haywire in there... not sure what it was.

Anyhow, I'm about to pack up some more bud. Will edit this post with details of how things go.

I feel like we're missing a giant piece of the puzzle here because this makes no sense to me. Vapor production stops while heat increases? This leaves the herb as the only variable and even so I have never heard of herb that quits giving vapor as temperatures increase.

I've also not heard of many people using level 2. Maybe that's just me, but I've always considered it to be too low of a setting to be useful.

Keep us posted!

did the load get water in it?

How much did you pack? Is there any chance you didn't pack enough and after the first few hits the herb moved around so the hot air could travel around it instead of through it? That could cause hotter air with no vapor (maybe).

Once again, Stu cuts through the confusion and points right at the issue. Heat makes vapor, more heat with less vapor produced is the hallmark of spend bud........

What's the color like?

All is well. Packed up a fresh bowl and she's hittin' most magically (like new). Got some "quickly grab bottle of water" moments on 2 & 3.

Should I post the lame video I just filmed of myself vaping? I show the bud in the video, so perhaps that may help...?

Sorry for double post. Doh! Modnote: Posts merged.

Summary: I'm voting strain related.

Longer version:
FWIW: I think I've seen this with (eg) OG sativa heavy strains we sometimes get - they have plenty of low temperature vapourizable stuff and reasonable buzz, but relatively short cloud producing sessions and not much more with higher temps.
For sure if the air is warm your heater is doing fine but maybe all the volatiles are gone and even higher temps may not yield much because there aren't any of the heavier volatiles left.
I'd look with strong light and a 10x loupe and expect to see zero shiny waxy trichomes in the leftovers - compared with some fresh.
Contrast what you describe with long session cloud duration with some strains like skunks that just keep on producing clouds - although in my experience, sometimes they don't add much buzz after the first few - but that's me probably?

Great! Glad you got it sorted out, not always easy to do over this here Internet. Al Gore kinda goofed that part up.

We love lame videos around here. Post away!

I'm with Stu once again! "Lame Videos R Us" you know.

In fact, you might not know that was the original name of the forum? We had to change it though, we were attracting all the 'wrong kind of people' if you know what I mean? You shoulda seen some of the videos they posted........
