OF, I checked into it, and it appears that you dont want to keep a li-ion battery STORED for an extended duration at 100% charge. I'm glad I know that now, but assuming one is going to be using the Solo the very next morning, I feel topping off is the way to go for a daily user.

Yup. The general advice is to store at about 2/3 charge (my backup Solo is on step 5 IIRC as it waits silently for the call we hope never comes.....).

There are about 8 sessions from top to bottom. Most guys get two on the top light (if they hammer the charge) since it is ".2 Volts wide". The rest are .1 Volt each (on the 2 Solos I've measured) down to 7.2 Volts when the last LED goes out. Remember, this is unloaded voltage, its going to take a serious hit when that 2.5 Amp heater demand hits.

It's also worth noting that that 7.2 Volts doesn't mean that we have two 3.6 Volt batteries in series. We could also have a 3.9 Volt one with a 3.3 brother? There's still some charge left, but how much is not known. The protection board monitors each battery individually and shuts the show down when the weakest battery of the pair gets into trouble (meaning it's now all the weaker.....).

Anyway, back to the question, if you need all 8 of those sessions, you need them. But if you, instead, charge to .2 Volts per cell lower you loose 20% of 8 or one and a half sessions. If you can live with 7 or 8 sessions instead of 8 or 9 you can more than double your battery life in terms of months of service and still enjoy a 'normal' number of sessions per day/charge.

Your call, of course, but if you're really serious about this OCD thing you might want to rethink how you're managing your battery. You're up against the guys who tank up first thing on a cold morning hoping for the densest fuel possible......

Regards.

While I don't ever let the battery run down to zero, I do let it charge to 100% only because I leave it and forget it. What's a guilt-ridden forgetful Solo babysitter to do?

Try to do it less often? It can't be undone. It won't live forever anyway.......

But don't expect to be taken very seriously in some circles?

My apologies to those who didn't appreciate the levity in my post. The question I posed was sincere. Anyway, OF, is it possible that Arizer could incorporate ,or has built in, a fail-safe charge cut-off point at which it would only charge shy of, say, 90% - yet still indicate a solid green full charge? Thanks for your many valued contributions!

Caligula, I don't now if you're old enough to remember the Thai Sticks of the late 70s trough the mid- eighties...but the weed looked like Nick3r's pic except maybe a little darker.

Funny, but Nick3r's pic looks nothing like the Thai sticks I used to get in the 70's and 80's.

The ones I was familiar with were lighter green and tied to thin "sticks" with thin off-white to pale-yellow "threads". The "sticks" could easily have been made out of the stalks of the plants, and the "threads" could have been fibers from the stalks (no proof of any of that, it just seems plausible).

The weed itself came as small lime green buds (compared to today's monster buds) wrapped and tied around the sticks. It was always very fragrant, but more floral and less "skunky".

In any case I feel that Nick3r's problem is draw speed and force. I have several portable vapes, and for me the Solo requires the longest, slowest draw of all of them. At first I was fooled into thinking I wasn't getting much vapor, but then it hit me... Cool vapor, huge hits, lung expansion, etc...

The sticks looked like the small wooden skewers , you buy for BBQ-ing , shish-kabob style , just smaller .
Ya , thin threads is what I remember also .

edit: Phone messed up:doh: @OF
i get two sessions on the top light but i havent ever fully topped off my battery as i heard it was bad for the battery. I never let my solo charge for more than 20 minutes after it hits the seventh light so the charge light never hits solid green and usually dont drain it past the fifth light. Am I doing harm to my battery? Your post makes me think I am, anyways i just ordered a PA and a PVHES 14mm GONG

Possible, but it didn't happen. The 'Military long life' change shows it's done sometimes, but the general market forces call for pushing the limit out.....run time sells vapes. We all know that, read what guys gripe about in posts? The tendency is to aim for that 300 cycles number. Laptops, cell phones, MP3 players and so on do this. How many 3 YO 'always plugged in' laptops and cell phones do you know that now have squat for battery capacity? Me too.

The two Solos I measured ended charge with 8.3 or 8.4 Volts (when the first battery crosses the line (typically 4.2 +/- .05 Volts)). As long as the pack stays balanced to total stays on target. As I understand Solo this is not even in their control, the commercial protection PCB (in the battery pack) is what sets the cutoff, not the charge controller in the Solo. They buy 'industry standard' boards and use what they get.

The cynical would no doubt point out that the makers want to sell you a replacement vape in the next year or two......or at least a new battery. Suits are like that, them and the Bean Counters.

All this is why I recommend stopping charging when the last LED lights (at the 80 to 90% point) but before charging stops (at 100%)........if you want to and if you're there to pull the plug. I figure I miss it plenty often to keep the pack balanced, but even though I've made replacement packs (first one died way too early in life to make me happy), I still think it's worth protecting the original. Open the case enough and you're going to likely add broken ears to your issues. Best avoided IMO.

You're welcome for what help I can offer.......you may notice there's several guys around here to share the duty. Pretty cool, eigh?

I kernel I use on (in?) my phone has a feature where you can set maximum charge capacity (for example I set mine to 90%). IDK if this has any bearing on anything seeing as how the Solo isnt a $700 pocket sized computer... but just sayin'.

Yup, neat feature if you can program it. A bit hard to control, given the limited interface in Solo and as I said I think they're trapped by the use of a commercial protection PCB. High end cell phones and the like that offer this tend to be either single cell systems (no need for PCBs in the battery pack) or 'home made' controllers on the main circuit board they can control. Even if the battery pack PCB was programable (which it's not) Solo wouldn't be able to program it as designed.

Until then, I think the best we can do is to manually try to emulate the action?

This is one of the reasons I think 'charge it while using' is not automatically a good idea. For most I think the original scheme will give longer battery lifetime. Time will tell.

Hi Guys,

I've just bought a new Pinnacle Water Tube (micro shower) to use with the Solo. I have the 14mm adapter but the pong (I think its called this anyway but I have never seen it attached before in any imagery) seems to be completely stuck and wont budge.

Anyone else had this issue or am I doing something completely wrong??

Thanks!

Alright guys, I need some help. So I have a beautiful wooden stem from Ed's TNT, but it has gotten VERY clogged and I have no clue how to clean it. I understand the rubbing alcohol/q-tip approach, but there is junk behind the screen I need to get to.

Please help!! This thing is hitting way worse the the stock glass stems. And normally its amazing!

--- I should add I didn't receive the "ramming rod" I've read about in some other posts.

____________________________________________________________

Currently soaking the whole metal part of the stem in 91% ISO. Hopefully that'll do the trick.
You have to remove the metal "clip" using something small that can pry it up. Once you remove that clip, you will then have to get the screen out by either gently prying it up or sticking something long and skinny through the mouth piece until it pushes the screen out. Then simply replace the screen with one the extras Ed included. Hope this is helpful

Would anyone in this thread happen to have an extra silicone o-ring for the solo? I can't find any locally and will pay for shipping if anyone has an extra one and would be willing to help me out.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but since I only have experience with the Solo I thought it would be good to ask people who also frequently used it.

Without going way too far up in price, is there any other vaporizer worth getting? Arizer Extreme Q? Silver Surfer? I love my Solo, just got the F-bomb and it's pretty awesome, but I also feel like trying something new. A plug-in vape with a larger bowl would definitely be cool, but from what I've read the Solo produces better vapor than most?
We all have options!

I think it depends on your needs?

I like higher temperature sometimes.
The SOLO hit's many ranges.

The NANO is cheap and sweet plus it's a plug in and pairs well with water.

I took a LSV over a SSV even thought they have the same insides because the LSV is made for water tools.

The NANO and LSV are both cheap and very nice.

NANO = SWEET FLAVOR - SMALLER
LSV = POWERFUL - LARGER

The XCLOUD EVO is a good choice however I can not afford one.
If I was a recreational user I would get a SUBLIMATER!

The SOLO with a PA is like a desk top and a low cost solution.
Depends on your level of addiction and what your pocket book dictates!

I use the SOLO everyday many times per day!

My friend got a solo and we think it is under performing the videos we see online. heats to 7 about 1 minute with cap off(should it be on?). can you help us?
We packed 2 loads of solo duff(chron) in my no2 after it was done in the solo lvl7 and got 2 milky hits at 360, and more pulls at 400. Its an m1c1 model. Don't think its getting to temp. We get nice vapor with a stem or waterpipe but it just doesnt get milky or give the effects like the 400F from my no2. We cant get thick hits from this(http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0235/4119/products/DSCN2593.jpg?v=1380048745) with the GonG adapter. hitting it super hard gives better results. but the duff..... ?
Not sure if you're Solo isn't getting to temp or if your chron is too moist to start with. You say that after you do 2 level 7 hits with little vapor you then transport the load to a no2, which might indicate that some drying took place in the Solo prior to the transport to the no2. Try drying it out prior to loading the Solo and see if it makes a diff. Keep us posted for further trouble-shooting if needed.

BTW: Nice glass!!!

Really want to get this vape but not sure because of the stealth aspect, pretty much read through most of this thread and researched all possible ways to be stealthy but just not sure.Does anyone use this vape consistently in public with stealth accessories? Currently have a pax, mflb, and a few aftermarket conduction style vapes with little convention in the process. I can't get over the consensus of user and reviewers that praise the taste and performance of this thing. I know I have two stealthy vapes already but I need better performance. Is full convection taste better than the solo?

I just hit the straight stem and hold the unit so my hand covers the LEDs. Looks like Im drinking a boba drink* or something. Besides if someone is close enough to see its not a drink, you have other things to deal with like smell.

Are you saying you took my suggestion and dried out your herb before loading the Solo? If yes, how was the vapor production from the Solo?

Nice, and I love the whole cup with straight tube or stealth adapter with drinking straw cause it seems so stealthy and inconspicuous. Even for the smell one might assume it is coming from somewhere around them or you but certainly not from your beverage unless vapor is coming out of the straw. There's no way to technically "clear" the straw to avoid that after leakage from each pull. Still this vape seems worth it. I heard that in February in Vegas there is a convention regarding new and upcoming vapes, maybe I'll wait for this.

There has been improvements I agree and it is one hell of a vape. Do you guys think it is possible to use the solo with the stealth adaptor by itself or will the vapor be too hot to enjoy? Being that this vape has been around so long and so successful (and I get the why change a great thing idea and agree) would it be safe to assume that arizer might come out with a smaller version making it more portable? That seems to be the biggest and most consistent FEEDBACK that solo users and potential buyers have given to the company. This being possible without any compromise of quality of course, and yes it is possible to create a smaller and yet just as powerful device. Engineering baby!

I think 'too hot to enjoy' is too subjective. Many use the GonG stem directly (no WT), many find it too hot.

I would not hold my breath for a smaller Solo. IMO the magic is in the stem/heater part and that would have to be made smaller to make the package smaller. And smaller means less battery life. Not popular.

In a large view, Pinnacle is just such a vape. Much smaller. Similar oven scheme (but much smaller in bore, therefore taller) and a single 18650 (four 10 minute sessions not 8 or more 12 minute ones).

I think Solo was well thought out in that respect, excellent (uncompromised?) performance in a reasonable size and shape package.

Fun idea, though.

I'm looking at my Solo and thinking that it might be possible to shave a 1/4 inch from each circular top side for a slimming total of 1/2". This would give it a flatter more pocket-able form factor, though not as slim as say, the Firefly. Still, quite doable with jeans & belt. The screw cap would require an alternate means of attachment such as recessed pressure clips on two sides. As I've not ever taken one apart, I really don't know if there's any room internally to compress parts further. Just thinking out load.
