We normally do not comment in situations like this but a lot of people share your view of BigDaddyVapor, so I will make an exception. It turns out that BDV is all about exceptions.
No one denies that BDV made a lot of good contributions to FC. Unfortunately, he has mood swings in which he lashes out and makes posts like his response to you. They have often been worse. As a result he periodically got in trouble and acquired warning points. Since you've read the rules, you know how that goes. Eventually you get enough to warrant a permanent ban. This happened with BDV more than once, but we tried to be understanding and he was allowed to return on probation.
BDV is probably really pissed with me right now. I hope he realizes eventually that he had more lives than half a dozen cats here, and certain moderators went to bat for him repeatedly. The problem is that at some point, we had to admit that his behaviour pattern wouldn't—probably couldn't—change. If we didn't ban him, we would have to continue to give him special breaks, and that would not be fair to the rest of you. We did not do this thing lightly. I wish the rest of you could appreciate how hard it is to take from someone something that he cherishes.
