Leviathan Pipes (inexpensive American Glass)

@BigDogJunction
Well, sorry all. I messed up. I forgot to give a heads up to Lev and we ended up in two different places. Not far, but Pasadena might as well be on the other side of the planet, that time of day.

I'm going to be back in his area, on Friday. Will have the update at that time. Probably work out better. Been a very long, day and I'm not feeling all that great.

Noserub - how are you liking your piece, any feedback? Thanks.

@Gaffa

Very happy with the lattice so far. It's larger than I expected...I knew the specs, but it's a beast of a bub, very solid. It hits like a champion with a crazy amount of diffusion from the lattice. Stacks to the top of the can when pulling hard. There is an initial chug to prime the stem with air, but is pretty effortless after that and provides monster rips. Flavor is very good. I have to modify the size of the bowls I usually puff with my LSV. My other sheldon black mini tube would provide nice flavorful hits but the same bowl in the lattice feels a little charred. I think it's because there is more volume in the can than I am used to and so I just require a bit more herb in the bowl. I usually pack 1 hitters in my LSV and Cloud to maximize the 'green' hit and flavor potential. Anyway, it's an easy fix by packing fatter bowls

This piece is much more ergonomic than my straight tube for the 'living room' or 'lean back' experience.

I've tried to explain this and currently am, to another member. If you watch any video of the Lattice, on the initial pull (priming)... you're going to get 2 - 3 seconds of chug/turbulence under the perc plate. Its unavoidable. After that, you will see the water under the perc, smooth out and it begins to purr, instead of chug.

Another thing to take into account, is the perc, is the size of the entire inner can chamber. Its a 60mm wide perc. That's a boatload of water moving though a very wide perc.

There is a slight learning curve to it. Typically, when I haven't used it in a few days/week, I have to do a couple primer hits, just to get the swing of it. I don't look at this as an inconvenience. Most glass, has its own little quirks, unless you've got nothing but a straight tube (remedied by an OGB DS. lol)

Is that member me?

It's been a bit too long, but here are my initial impressions of the Lev FC Lattice bub.

1st up, build quality.
This thing is built like a tank. It feels really solid in the hand. The welds are all super smooth, everything about it screams quality.
The base is super thick and holds the bub up perfectly, it isn't gonna be tipping without some serious force.
I like how the stem has a subtle tilt to it, enough that my LSV points away from me, but not enough for it to be an issue with my bud slipping around in the WPA :)
I love the dimple where the neck meets the can, and the reinforcement under it. It gives that junction a real smack of character, where most bubs I see just have the neck sorta slapped on.
The mouthpiece is done really well, I've got a few pieces where the flare goes out to far in relation to the neck, but this one is perfect. I'd maybe prefer a minimally larger mouthpiece, but that's a tiny tweak I'd ask for on a custom than a flaw in the design :)

Then there's the lattice itself... :mmmm:
Its a thing of beauty, the way the light dances through it, you really can just sit there and stare at it (especially after a session ).

Ok, on to the function.
The diffusion is really unique, with such a large perc there really is no restriction to the draw, and it gets all that water moving with ease. It's a very smooth diffusion, fine, evenly distributed bubbles flying around all over the place :D.
I have noticed when hitting it on a table, that I get a slight chug under the lattice, almost like a natural perc effect at the bottom of he downstem. What's odd about that though, is that it is completely independent of what's going on above the lattice. I don't feel the chug in the hit, or feel it vibrating though the piece, its just very audible. I'm trying to nail down exactly what causes it (technique, water level, etc), and how I can mitigate it, but I'm not particularly worried because it is unnoticeable during the hit, and it goes away when I use the bub handheld (which is 100% of the time I'm not recording a vid).

The flavour seems to be preserved more than other pieces of comparable diffusion. It's almost like the bub is actively trying to give me the best hit possible .

I'm still nailing down my perfect water level, I currently have it at about 1cm above the peak of the dome in the lattice, which I'm liking.

I have accidentally splashed my feet with water when grabbing it, since I'm used to dewaar bubs, I can just grab them by the mouthpiece and they won't spill. With the stemless design of the lattice, it can tip a bit when grabbing it by the mouthpiece and some water will start skydiving, but when I checked the natural balance of the bub by just gently lifting it by the mouthpiece and letting it hang naturally, the water stays in the bub, so it's probably me just grabbing it roughly that gets me a free foot wash

Nope, Frederick. Not you. Its a current conversation.

BTW, I'm not trying to call anyone out. It just fit, with the topic of conversation and I'm not really revealing anything. Hopefully, when other people see it being discussed, they'll chime in. I'm sure some people with this piece, that read all these glowing accolades, don't get it. Not anyone's fault, or subject to ridicule.

Hell, I think I swallowed the entire contents of a filled mouthpiece, trying to discover how hard I could pull on it.

Hey guys, I believe I am the one discussing the chug in a side bar with BDV. First off, thank you BDV for taking the time to educate me on the functionality of this gorgeous piece, it is appreciated.

I too am experiencing a chug at the beginning of each hit for about 3-5 seconds before it levels out when used level on a table. Use on a table is somewhat required in my case, the mouthpiece is at the perfect height and angle to accommodate that need, which I'm ecstatic about.

Unlike Fredrick however, I strongly 'feel' the chug at the beginning of each pull. Strongly.

BDV has given me a few things to try out, which I intend to do today. I need to spend some more time with it before passing further judgement.

Visually, it is stunning, that I can confirm right now.

I find most of my chug to the hit after priming, so to speak, comes from the angle that I am holding the bub at. If I am tilted forward it chugs more from the turbulence of air breaking thru the water. I don't think I have ever hit mine sitting on a table though, I have always held it.

As I said Hoops, wasn't trying to call you out. Frederick and I had a similar conversation, so obviously you're not alone. I hoped at least bringing the subject up, for others, might foster some discussion. I'm sure Lev loves the warm and fuzzy stuff. But this thread, as any... Is just as good, for talking about this.

For the record, please do not take Hoops commentary as bashing. I know exactly what he is talking about and know what he is experiencing. We don't know if it technique, or if its something with his bubbler. Heck, its not out of this question, that those people exist that really don't like it and have given it a chance. That's why there's so many companies it there these days.

The possibly exists (gasp), that it just may not be your cup of tea. Can't blame anyone for that. I hope we get it worked out.

I've got some appointments to run today. More doctors and hopefully picking up Big Mona, today.

No worries at all BDV, I'm happy to continue diagnosis on this thread for all. Excited to see Mona and will continue to work on the bubbler with some different vapes.

I will make, upload and post some additional videos for review and opinions...with vapes this time.

NewVape

What a guy!
Here's a couple of questions for everyone:

What water level do you use with you lattice bubbler?

What differences do you find at different water levels?

I fill it so that the water just barely covers the lattice. I find that it gives a very frothly diffusion. As BDV pointed out it's a large can and that's a lot of water to move.

Yes, there is a slight twist to the perc. It however does not effect function, nor the aesthetics, of the piece, which is truly beautiful in person.

I got trapped on the wrong side of a mountain range, so I'm snowed in until tomorrow, with only my trusty MFLB. I'll post a water/bubble vid in a while.

EDIT: OH SHIT!! Now I get it, with the perc! Lev was talking about this perc and the lattice, being similar!! Omg... I see it now!

BigDaddyVapor

@BigDogJunction
Lev had told me, that its basically a Lattice, except in a different form. I didn't get it.

As I was looking at the perc, thinking it looked crooked, it hit me! It's a strand of glass, wrapped around the, corkscrewing up. Had no idea, . it was that intricate. On first glance, I thought it might just be slightly crooked, but once your eyes adjust to seeing it, it's quite fascinating.

The video makes it sounds like its more chuggy than the Lattice. It's not. Small bathroom. The initial drag feels less, than the Lattice, but I need a side by side.

Wow, very nice. Gotta get one of these. How tall is yours BDV?

For anyone experiencing chug in their hit, try tilting the the mouthpiece towards you for the first few seconds. See my last video in the Glass and Milkshots thread. After a few seconds the water should be flowing well enough to eliminate the chug.

edit: I'll just repost it.

Is that Scotch tape? :o
If I was you I'd have my MFLB WPA on hand (or in the car) at all times. The HI must get you through most of the day by now, no?

Why is the Facebook page still out if the website isn't up yet?

i know you have only had it for a short while, but how does it compare to the lattice? or is it just completely different?

Yes, it's Scotch tape.

I almost brought more of my gear, but was pretty sure I would get back.We would have, if not for a massive 20+ car crash.

http://scvnews.com/2013/02/08/i-5-shut-over-grapevine-power-out-in-canyon-country/

My car needs some work, so my mom had come to pick me up. Only brought my MFLB with me... but I'm certainly well-medicated.

I'll be home early tomorrow and have a proper video for mom's coffee, the following morning. The more I played around with it, the more it shines. I obviously don't know how the bubbler hits, but the tube hits just like the Lattice HOWEVER... with a standard pull, that anyone would be comfortable with.

If it works as well as I think it will, with the HI... it overtakes everything, with other pieces collecting dust.

Yes, I'm saying it's that good. Single/only piece good.
