The HI

Thanks Vapinghole, Vito, and mom. Lilac is sort of an overlooked wood. It is available almost anywhere. Just have to find some that is very old and not too cracked. I always try to find the dead wood as the green wood will crack when it sees you with coming with the saw in your hand. That might be a bit dramatic, but it is tough to find a very large stable piece. This one is definitely a log vape as the center of the branch is the center of the unit.

can i stick my male joint in there?
Sorry in advance Vapinghole. This will not be good for your HIDS.

I have had a piece of lilac wood since I first started making HI's that was too small for anything plus some nasty cracks. It worked pretty well for a HI Top. The shape is not Eggxactly what I was looking for, so I will have to try again sometime when I get more HI's done. The size is just about right. The extra wood around the center allows you to hold it comfortably. It is 2" in diameter and 2.75" tall. The other side has a larger crack and there is part of a worm burrow. Very unique. My room has a nice lilac flower smell to it from the heated wood. Works just like a HI.

Another instant fan of the Lilac wood Alan. It looks a bit like olive wood doesn't it? The one on the other page right above Cluffies walnut piece looks awesome too, is that another maple burl piece?

Greetings, I first contacted Alan in late December to ask about the availability of a Hi. I received no immediate reply but I had seen the thread and knew Alan was endeavouring to catch up so was not at all concerned. Initial contact was made a few weeks later.

Another while later, Alan and I did the email thing and got the order process rolling. Again, I knew Alan was busy with orders so didn't expect miracles. To his great credit, Alan has kept me informed at various junctures, on the progress of my order. Quite different to some experiences I've had with some other vape sellers. Wood type was selected and eventually, the bits and pieces and the ball was well and truly rolling.

It may have taken a while, but two days ago I got my Hi and I am thoroughly delighted. I am enjoying getting to get to know the abilities of the Hi more intimately. From the beautiful hues of the rich burgundy colour, to the obviously well made and thoughtful design of the product, it is a great package. The innovative support products are promising and I have some eager experimenting to do!

The Hi's performance to date has been all I expected and it delivers in a no nonsense, direct and very effective way. There seems to be very little that can go wrong. However, should any part fail, the ease of replacement is a huge bonus for klutzes such as myself. The end result of my experimentation with the Hi has been one of being profoundly, "off my tits". I am in awe of my tiny new friend. The Hi is a winner and amazingly, it's all contained in a diminutive bundle that looks vaguely like a small salt shaker.

It has been a pleasure dealing with Alan and i am one very satisfied customer! I dips me lid!

Peace.

Thanks OhTheAgony, Vito, and CHIDOY. The burl wood HI above Cluffy's walnut HI is maple. Always fun to see what appears in the wood when it is finished.

bayneite - I'm so happy that it all worked out well for you. Thanks for hanging in with me through all the design enhancements and new developments. You will find so much great information about using the HI in this thread plus you may even discover some new ways to use it. Everyone here is so helpful and creative too.

HI! I got her on Monday but haven't had time to post, did a video but it didn't work out so you'll have to settle for a pic for now:

So tiny, but so powerful! I'm loving both tubes, the all-glass one both with and w/o the SS insert.
I started with a regular 12V PS and it's just a bit on the hot side for my usual needs but great for the monster bong rip! I then tried the VV after checking the voltage, I ended up liking 11.5V for the first few hits and 12V to completely roast the load. The dial is pretty sensitive, I think I am going to pick up one of these and make a little voltmeter box to go between the PS and the HI: http://www.1topstore.com/en-usd/blue-digital-dc-20v-lcd-volt-voltmeter-meter-display-p11149.html
I have a 12V rated PS from a cheap R/C plane charger that puts out 19V for some reason, I hope to put a potentiometer on it and use it with the voltmeter box for another log vape who just needs a little more than 12V to completely roast a load, though she can make me very happy with some kif as is...
I'm rambling 'cause I'm HI so I'll just say THANKS ALAN!!! and go on my way. I'll try another video soon, but right now... :ko:

Ramble on, cluffy! That's a great-looking HI--I can't believe how small that effing thing is! I'm pleased to learn you're rocking it right off the bat. Excited to see your vids when you're not so fucking baked!

Edit: Props to the PBR and the full trench too!

Yeah, that maple burl looks really awesome Alan, can't wait to meet mine :D

Nice one Cluffy, nice find on the display as well!

I did a little more checking and I found one that also displays the amperage: click

If you use that one you can also tell if your HI makes a proper connection to the power source all at once.

Have you checked the output power of your RC plane CPU under load as well btw? Because it may drop a lot. And do you know if it's regulated or not? If not it's going to be a pain to use I'm afraid. I have an unregulated 13,8V PSU myself that puts out 15,7V max under load. I use it with one of these, but it constantly fluctuates in output voltage which often makes the Dog run either to hot or to cold when it hitting it. I can't be sure but I suspect it may even helped killing my UD (it died on me last night unfortunately, but it took a lot of abuse before that).

If you're spending money on these gadgets to safe money I recommend you to stop right there and just invest in a good variable PSU straight away though. Tattoo PSUs are the cheapest ones, but they will need a little modifying. You can find them on ebay for 20 bucks or so including shipping. Check the power supply thread for more info if you want to.

You are welcome cluffy. Glad it is performing well for you. Love to see the video.

Wish I could find DC power cords with built-in voltage meters. Then you would always know the voltage.

Thanks CHIDOY and OTA.
