I think if the caps fit loose they will be ok.if the cap grabs onto the stainless when its pushed home ,say 1 inch or so.it will be a bitch to get off.lthe magic flight battery caps will slide on and off the end of the Solo stem perfectly and work really well to retain youre load for next time.the thinner the tube the quicker the cooldown, which means less cooking time for youre material outside of the solo.

Will be very close, very close!]

sounds promising Ed:)..
I do think that will be the clincher here that will seal the fortunes of the solo stem.it will mean this thing sells or it sells really well.im amazed that 14mm x .5mm tube isnt available off the shelf.i use very similar tube for inserts in my trade but its 13mm alas.
aim for as thin as possible tube for the bowl wall.it just needs to be strong enough to survive everyday use in and out of pockets and the solo and being dropped. That is my thoughts on the stem.

what do you think of Alans stem and his thinking?

Hi Ed,

Just got my LB stems a couple of days ago (a Zebra and a Purpleheart shorty), they really are the bomb
I have a noob question though: which end should I be drawing from (bigger hole or normal) ?

Good deal glad you like, really either end will do, one is just a little different due to how I have to turn it! Wish you well and many good times bro!

Thanks Ed. You just need to get yourself a small metal turning lathe. They allow you to make some amazing things. Making the tooling is the real trick. Thank goodness for ceramic inserts.
There is never enough time.

Good morning, yeah I know I gotta get one bad Alan! Been looking and looking, like the small Grizzly lathe mill combo. I like Grizzly machines and warranty and most importantly customer service, those guys are very helpful and think if I am gonna spend that dough I better get something that will handle all the work I will give it. How does your handle the SS, do you think that it could do major production? Have a few different things I would like to make happen and would need something that can handle the work load.

Ubwade I will spend some time looking over that link you posted above, am open for trying anything to make it happen.

Hope all is well out there, my oldest is now 6-0!!! Had 2 games at 6 the other night, am running back and forth between fields to watch both my oldest boys. This is gonna be a great year for them, finally got on some really good teams, its about time!

I have had my little metal turning lathe for about 10 years now. Had some issues with the speed control at first, but it has been a great machine. Definitely up to small production runs. I just mount my drill press to the tool holder when I want to do drilling (like those 6 small holes in the center tube). I may even do that today as I need to make some more cores.

Good morning, last night was a tough night! My oldest finally got the first loss of the season, we are 6-1 now, still in first place though. Hey sometimes you gotta tote an ass whooping to really know what winning is all about!

Thanks for the kind words Nic, I do appreciate those and hope to have these really soon.

Hogleg, no new pics just yet, pieces are still in the beginning phase of production. Seems I am still a small fish and have to wait just a little longer. My guy is in crunch time with a new one of a kind machine that is gonna make a company a lota money and my little pieces are peanuts to him. Hang in there with me all, I want em just as bad as you all do!

Good news, have a lot of super sweet burls that have been out of stock for some time back available this morning. Off to the photographers tomorrow and pics will be updated first of next week.

From here on out, anyone that buys a Launch Box kit from Ed's TnT will receive a special African Blackwood standard length vapor stem as well as a Blackwood 1 1/4" shorty vapor stem duo free with their order! This species will never be available to anyone at my website, any other company if I made it, or even special request. This will only be available with a kit!

Thats all I got for now, I wish all well!

Nah Ubwade havent really looked for any to be honest, been super busy. Started a small business class 2 nights a week, 3 hours a night for 6you weeks. With that and ball, with tons of woodwork doesn't leave much time bro. My guy is gonna get 5/8" round bar turn it down to the OD I need and it will have a 1/2" ID, will fit it Monday and then production Tuesday. Hang in there with me bro! Am taking the weekend off going to Memphis 60in bands for $75, the cult, janes addiction, megadeath, and many many more! Really looking forward to getting away for a break!

Ages ago I wrote on here about how sticky with resin the inside of the LB wooden stems get. At the time it annoyed me because I (stupidly) used the fluffy pipe cleaner which just left little hairs stuck everywhere inside.
Well the other day my b&w stem was looking pretty clogged up again and this time I used my SSV pick/stirrer thing to scrape it all out. Took ages but got a nice little ball in the end!

Holy crap this stuff is sticky though - as bad as any iceolator hash. Was an effort just to get it off my fingers!
But holy crap this stuff is strong though! Way stronger than the resin that builds-up in the SSV wands. Hitting it at the moment and... :mmmm: so, so good.

- As if I didn't love Ed's products enough already, they go and provide me with yet another reason, cheers!

Glad to hear from ya Wilf, been some time and am super happy your still enjoying those pieces!

I had an awesome time in Memphis, Saturday night was some of the best shows of my life. The Cult played a lota new stuff and many of the best oldies I grew up listening to. Jane's Addiction was THE SHIT!!! They played a couplea new songs and a lot of the old stuff. Had a couple of hottie chicks swinging from the trussing and then doing sexy dances, had a zombie guy that was killing baby dolls and throwing them around stage, wild stuff, they finished off the show with Jane Says, holy shit what a hella performance. They brought out a few wooden high back chairs, Dave Navarro got the acoustic guitar and they brought out the steel drum then laid it down! I am so happy I saw them at least once in my life!!!

Just spoke to my metal guy, going by his place to fit the Solo SS this afternoon, he has a couple pieces spun, if they fit and all is good he goes to production tomorrow. Am excited to work with this guy, told him bout my screen issue with getting the right size, he said no sweat, he knows exactly what to do and will make me a tool that I can use like a hole punch for paper, just simply insert screen and mash down on the handle, cut to fit every time!

Hope all is well out there, should have alota new pics to post tomorrow.

Ok good morning all!!! Big news, big news, the Solo Tube has been finished and is off to production!!! It really hits like a CHAMP, the ID is 1/2" with just enough on the OD to fit nice and tight. Hogleg sent me a Solo that had an additional Oring just under the top to get a little more hold of the glass tube, no need for the Oring with my pieces, fits nice and snug and stays put. The wall thickness is just under .75mm, bowl depth is bout the same as the glass at 3/8". I loaded it with a solid grind fairly full, put heat temp at 5, let it warm with the tube in it and got 3-4 nice hits from it, me being a heavy hitter ran it up to 7 and finished off the tube with 2 more hearty full clouds. Only took 1 1/2 min. to cool down to where you could hold it. The notches are a little wider than what is shown before, adds for a little extra airflow. The piece shown in the pics are of walnut I quickly spun yesterday anxious to see how it preformed. I should have the SS back in my hands by the end of the week and am gonna turn these in Granadillo for the first run. Haven't worded it yet for anything so am anxious to see it finished. These should be available first of next week.

Pricing will be comparable to the CRZ tubes I offer.
These will be made probably with the 14mm end, 18mm is gonna be too large OD for the wood and wouldnt look right being larger than the SS IMO.
The screens are 1/2" so can be gotten anywhere.

Was thinking of adding a 1/2" internal retaining ring just to hold them put. Sent out a wooden dowel rod with the betas that could be used to push through the tube and out the screen, thought it would be a good idea to get the clips and add an extra to each sale along with a couple extra screens and the dowel push rod.

:o that is some of the best amboyna burl I have ever seen... man those blocks are just full of figure... someone is find be real happy with those pieces... glad you got the solo tubes up and going, that oughta make alot of folks round here happy too. I knew you was gone make it happen, just gotta get time in this busy world..
