Just bought a 3D TV....

Nice thing about the LG's (and Panasonic) is that they have a 2D to 3D converter so you can watch normal 2D programming in 3D

Anyone looking for a new TV, passive 3D (non-powered glasses, like in the movie theaters) TV's are really down in price for the holidays. They just announced recently that "glasses-free 3D" will be hitting the market next year. I figure they won't be "affordable" for another couple years tho.

Anyone got a 3D TV? Passive or Active 3D? Do you like it?

I can't wait to play some Xbox games in 3D all vaked!!!

I personally don't like 3d as it is conceived at the moment. It makes my eyes weird and I cannot fully enjoy what I am watching. I think I'll totally wait for this tech to improve more and more before investing in it.

I said that about the active 3D but the passive is so much better. The active fucked with my eyes as well. They will be obsolete soon.

Is the passive 3d, the one like the Nintendo 3DS? Otherwise I never experienced a glass-free 3d, so I am ignorant in the subject and I need delucidations

Passive uses a polarized non-powered set of glasses, same ones you get if you go see a movie in the theaters in 3D. Really no headache or eye fucking reports on the passive. I watched it for about 20min in the store and its sick.

Glasses free just came out but its hella expensive. Prob get one of those in like 3 years. My next TV will be a 55" so its gonna be a bit until they are in my price range!

the 2D-3D converting is really bad, unless they improved it
It could be alright since you have non-powered glass (mine is powered) but only worth it for sports if anything.


I have a 3D panasonic TV that retailed 5000 but got it for only 2000 because it was on display a while ago.

What really shine with 3D, imo, is the 3D gaming.
Its amazing, especially vaked

When 3D TVs first hit the scene I was stoked for some epic video game play... but then my xbox kicked the bucket on me and I still don't own a 3D TV... well JD thanks for the heads up, because it's starting to look like the price is getting into my range... just gotta stop spending my cash on vapes

It all started with a "Black Friday Deals" thing I read online. They said Walmart will be selling a 42" Vizio 3D (the vizio's are actually pretty damn good tv's now) for $500. I then went to the store to look at the bigger ones, almost bought the 47" Vizio for $800. Then I came across the LG bundle while reading reviews on the Vizio. For $900 its a fucking steal. For an extra $100 I get a decent 3D Blu Ray player and 4 pairs of specs (the vizio came with 2)

My current TV is a 46" Toshiba 1080p 120hz, not out of date yet so I will be able to sell it for $500ish. I paid $1000 for it 18 months ago so I'm actually pretty happy I'll get that much. New ones like mine now are going for about $650. So all in all I'm spending $400 to upgrade to a sick 3D TV with a better picture and add on the Blu Ray. Good thing I didn't have to pay for the cloud last week, would have put quite the damper on the TV situation

Crazy how fast technology moves. 3D TV's were not even an option for me at the beginning of 2011

I have a 60" Mitsubishi 3D DLP. It doesnt come with any glasses, but is supported by Nvidia's 3DVision. You buy the (active shutter) glasses+emitter kit and connect your PC to your TV with the DVi-HDMI cable, then you plug the emitter in USB and into the s-video shaped port on the back of the TV and you're good to go. Well, you need to have a supported Nvidia GPU in your PC, which i already did.

Anyways I really like it, i've been using it mainly for playing PC games in 3D over the past year and a half and its to the point now where I dont enjoy playing games unless theyre in 3D almost. The problem is some of the games ive wanted to play dont have good 3D support. Fortunately Skyrim is among the games that work awesomely in 3D, so i've been experiencing that in the most epic way possibly i think.

I do watch some 3D movies now and then, but overall i'm not impressed with the 3D effect in most movies. There's far too little depth, and rarely any sort of pop-out, whereas with most PC games you can set the depth/convergence however you wish. I always set my (first person) games so that the tip of my weapon is at screen depth, everything in front of it extends into the TV and everything behind it (the weapon model and my characters hands) appear to pop out of the TV.

I also own a nintendo 3DS, and I think its a very cool thing as well, although the 3D isnt as nice as on my 60" of course lol. The main issue is with the glasses-free style 3D overall, i dont like it at all, a lot of ghosting/cross-talk between eyes if you move around even a little. I'll take a good pair of active glasses any day of the week.

Speaking of which, theres a new model of 3DVision glasses coming out soon that have much less of a tint to them but still work just as well, they also have a more comfortable frame and larger lenses, so if youre looking into Nvidia's 3D solution, you might want to hold off a few weeks/months until theyre available. Theres a new Asus 27" LCD monitor coming out early next year that has the 3dvision emitter built in to it as well as having a brighter picture in 3D mode through some new technology.

New TV that I ordered dropped $100 3 days after I bought it.

Finally got delivered today. Downloaded and watched the LG 3D Demo with a clip from an underwater IMAX vid....HOLY FUCKING SHIT there was a giant fish swimming above my coffee table.

I could have gotten a 3D 42 inch 720p plasma for around 550. Decided against the 3D since I could get a 51 inch 1080p plasma for 650. I don't care for LCDs since their colors are not the best, and right now, large plasmas are much cheaper than their LED LCD counterparts.

I have to disagree with the LCD colors. I have an older 50" Samsung plasma that is decent, but in no way has better colors than my 46" Toshiba LCD that I just sold IMO

The 3D TV I just bought is a LED/LCD 3DTV. The colors and picture blow away the other previous TV's IMO.

After a few days with the TV, got all the settings where they need to be. This TV is fucking sick.

I was going to add large, multi-speaker surround sound system, but after a bunch of research I ended up going with a Vizio Soundbar w/ Wireless Sub. Vizio has gone from a crappy walmart brand to being a real competitor in the electronics game. When I read a review that someone compared this soundbar with a Bose system they owned and said the difference honestly wasn't that much, I was sold. I've heard a Bose system myself, and this is as close as you are going to get spending under $1000.

Watched Saw 3D last night with the surround sound and I was high enough to think at times I was actually in a fucking movie theater. Honestly, the sound is better (and possibly louder) than a movie theater. This soundbar is FUCKING SICK as well!! It has a "simulated surround" mode that really makes it sound like there are more speakers in the room other than the bar and subwoofer.

I don't know what I'd do without internet product reviews, oh wait ya I do, I'd spend a shit ton more loot on shit that aint as good!

The glasses free 3d tech is pretty cool on the 3ds, you should try gears 3 on your new tv, the 3d on it is fantastic

JD: I got an LG 55LW6500 for Christmas, and I was surprised how good the 2D->3D conversion works. There are scenes it doesn't handle well (zoom-ins and close-ups) but a lot of the time it does a pretty good job.

I don't have a game system, but I'm using it as a monitor for my laptop as well. I prefer watching video using the laptop and VLC as opposed to using the TV's LAN connection. Even with the Magic Wand remote, using the TV's interface to the web is painful. Every app seems to have its own idea for the virtual keyboard layout.

Anyone considering a 3D TV needs to watch out for the cable scam. You need an HDMI 1.4 cable to support Blu-ray 3D. The problem is that Monster and Rocketfish sell these cables at about 5x the price you should be paying. I got 1 meter (~3 feet) HDMI 1.4 certified cables for $8 apiece. The equivalent Monster cable is on the same rack for $49!
