Well i'm a little disappointed. Kevin at arizer insisted that the function of the two versions is exactly the same, but I don't see how that is possible based on what you said. Surely there must be better airflow. I just feel kinda jipped cuz I spent msrp on this thing and tax and now a "newer" unit is released. My flaking won't show up on my camera cuz it's just one tiny spot but arizer won't warranty it until I send a photo. I just think the right thing to do would be to exchange mine for a SS.

Sorry dude, didnt mean to make you dissapointed but honestly the airflow is better, it doesnt feel like i am trying to suck a basket ball through a hosepipe any more with the new version. The only issue is i had to pay import taxes again . one thing i did notice about my old Solo was that the stem was a tight fit until the chipping started and now its loose just like the SS version of the solo.

Killed my first battery charge :)

Trqcy if that means you ran the first battery charge down that is not a good thing. Never run the charge all the way down if you can avoid it on that type of battery. I recharge after every 4-5 12 min cycles and that has worked fine for last couple of months. Just friendly advice.

Im considering picking up a solo for myself... I already own an extreme and a magic flight.

can the members who own a magic flight and a desktop vape chime in and tell me how the solo has changed their day to day vaping operations ?

I have never used or seen a solo, but I feel like it would fill in the gap between a desktop and magic flight.

for situations when stealth isnt a requirement, but portability is. and still have the ability to make large quantities of vapor.

do you guys use the MFLB a lot less now that you have a solo?

as of now, what is the best price for one?... are there any drawbacks?..

I tried out the latest version of the Iolite and I must say it was pretty damn good in operation (made clouds of vapor, pretty instant , reliable) but I am not a fan of the plastic, butane , lack of temp control.

K, Steven22...
I own the Extreme Q and the MFLB. Here are some opinions of mine:
- After reading the good stuff about the Solo, I had to add it to my arsenal. I'm okay with, but not overjoyed, with the product. The air flow is my biggest disappointment. I emailed Arizer customer service a couple of days ago, no response yet. I really do like the design and most things about the product. I'm sure the designer of the Solo is much smarter than me, but I can't help but notice the herb chamber on the mouthpieces sits below the heating ring when you push the mouthpiece all the way in (both of mine do this). There's probably a reason that 2-hole glass spacer is not positioned deeper in the mouthpiece end so that, when packed, the herb is surrounded by the heating element, not sitting below it. I'll have to do something about the poor air flow if I'm going to keep the Solo.
- re: the MFLB
I think it would work better than the MFLB, if not for the reduced air flow. The MFLB has better air flow, but I've found that after about 6 months of MFLB use, the efficiency of the vapor extraction gradually wanes. The lifetime warranty is great (they've already replaced one) but it seems that after months of heavy use, the heating efficiency degrades. The design would seem to prevent this in the Solo.
- re: the Extreme Q
I have not yet experienced vapor from a portable vaporizer that compares to the wondrous vapor clouds produced by the Extreme Q. I think the Solo vapor really doesn't compare to that of the Extreme Q, but I didn't expect it to.
- My opinion in a nutshell:
I was really excited to receive the Solo...but, out of the box, I'm a bit underwhelmed and if I'm going to keep it, fixing the restricted air low (for me, at least) is mandatory. I really wanted to love this product and it seems like with just a few minor tweeks, it would be better than the MFLB...but right now, it's just sitting. From the other posts I've scanned over, the things I'm disappointed with are not unheard of and are design related. I believe "out of the box", there's no way it's worth the retail price, but it may be worth a try if you find one selling for half (or maybe a little more) retail.

Can I ask where you picked up the new 4 hole stems from? Kevin from Rockwise
said he would not have any available til next week+. It would be tits to grab the stems
from another vendor.....Thanks
I emailed Kevin right after everyone was getting their replacement SS solo's because they were getting these 3 hole stems. I wasn't having any smell or flaking issue so all I wanted was the stems as the flow was the only thing I wanted more of. So I emailed to Kevin and he said he would just send me some of the new 4 hole stems for free!!! I tried the bent one and it was a little disappointing because the flow wasn't that much better as I think most of the flow is through the unit and not the stems. I'm going to try the straight one today then I'll take some pics of them for everyone.

Oh and PS, USPS I believe found my bong!!!!!! I checked the tracking information again today because today is the the last day they had to give me a call about the investigation and it was updated this morning!!! I know says that I will be getting it today!!!

edit: I'm a bit slow, this post was suppose to end up right after TracyLee's :/

You don't have to count your session, just keep an eye on the leds when you turn it on. If you're at 3 or 4 it's time to charge it again after that one. I empty my battery completely once a month myself btw. That always seemed to keep my laptop batteries in good shape so I figured it couldn't hurt with the Solo as well.

You picked a nice one to start your vaping career with btw, enjoy!

Steven22:

I had an SSV for 8 months when I got the Solo.

And even though I still think it's an awesome vape I sold the SSV within a month after I got my Solo without regrets, I think that says enough.

There are a few guys on here that have an MFLB as well as a Solo and one or two did a little comparison for me some pages back if you feel like looking for the post. I recommend doing so, everything you need to know to make the decision whether to buy one or not is already written here and you may learn a lot (and even enjoy it).

Lefthook, thanks for the pic! I wonder why Arizer decided to make the airpath a bit less restrictive though. Could it be that they keep an eye on this thread, or did they just get that many complains about it? We can only speculate I guess.

lol I'm always being slow typing my posts like that! ^ I think for sure they keep an eye on this thread. If I made a product that had a dedicated discussion thread all about it then I would definitely keep a watch- you'd be mad not to (unless you're Apple Inc- but that's an outlier).

Hi Uncle Whammy, The heater isn't the plastic ring- it's the actual metal cup below that heats up. Hope you get on better with it over the coming days. The airflow doesn't bother me nowadays- it's kind of similar to the traditional log vape airflow, and it just takes a bit of getting used to IMO.

I have an EQ, MFLB and Solo.

I haven't used my Launchbox since purchasing the Solo. The only thing they have in common is that they are both portable. LB is stealthier, but since this is not a huge concern for me I haven't had a need for it. The Solo medicates much, much quicker.

My EQ still sees some occasional use when friends come over, but this isn't very often. Lately I've just been hitting my Solo through my bubbler, or my PD.

So mine came from Amazon - got it from Allstar Wholesales, who I got my Eclipse H20 from. My serial number starts m104. It appears to be an older one - both tubes are bent, not a straight one, both have only two holes. And I assume it has ceramic on the bowl - got the black model, the bottom of the chamber is black, not plain steel. So unless it's made black in some other way, it is ceramic coated.

Haven't used it yet, but I charged it up and got it heating - I always let electronics of any kind run a bit when I first get them , in part to burn off anything left from the production process. Definitely getting a bit of an odor - reminds me of the smell the Vapir One produced. I'm hoping it will disappear after a few heating cycles. Has anyone had the smell not go away?

Keep an eye on the ceramic coating as it will more than likely start chipping with use. A few heat cycles should rid the smell, if not contact Arizer for a warranty claim. A few have had the smell initially and for the most part it did go away.

Yea, you're probably right about Arizer keeping an eye on this. I just wish they would participate as well while they're here. But I can also understand why they would choose not to, although now I'm just speculating again..

Thanks WatTyler...As I was heating it up for the first time, I stuck my finger in and it felt like the ring was heating up first, and the rest was radiant...I was a bit impaired, though, and I guess I shouldn't have been...well, you know...at the time.

I got it!
I ordered what... Monday? Amazon Prime is awesome. Got it for $160. It's not the stainless steel, but oh well. I'll take all the flakes in the world haha... I wanted one when they were $300 but didn't have the cash... ah, can't wait to play... but that charging light is still blinking...

Both of my stems are loose-fitting, which seems to be preferred. Can't wait to test this out.

How many 'burn-in' cycles do you usually use to get rid of the weird plastic smell you guys/gals talk about?

That looks like a brass screen, which is super easily to mold. SS on the other hand is a bitch.

I had an EQ since it came out, got the solo, sold the EQ and used solo exclusively, missed EQ so bought it again, but went right back to solo daily driver and sold the EQ again! lol If it wasn't for the cloud i'd probably keep the EQ since everyone needs a good home desktop vape and a portable! :)

I'm getting a smell on my SS unit, I didn't notice the smell at all on my original Solo. I've done 8 12 min cycles so far and it's still a bit strong, I can taste it when hitting and that really sucks. Starting cycle #9 and hoping for the best.

My chipping unit still works great, even better with the 3 hole stem but I eat my ABV so it weirds me out and I just dump it, if the smell goes away on the new one I'll pack the old away. Anyone have advice on the battery storage, should I charge to store it or run it down first.

vape4health,
I'm up to three solos, and they all stink the same. It's not even a hot-transformer, hot-electronics smell, it's more of a hot plastic smell to my nose at this point.. Sad to say it reminds me a bit of what my Voodoo vaporizer smelled like. As I smell it again, I'm reminded of how the inside of an old sea shell smells..

It's my single largest problem with the Solo and the reason it's hardly my primary vape.

charliedontsurf,

I've run mine through a dozen or so heat up and cool downs and the smell does seem to be lessening. Unlike my old Vapir, which was so bad it turned me off vaping for a while, it isn't affecting the taste, at least through a water pipe IMO.

I do hope the smell goes away completely, because even with water filtration it makes me a little nervous. And I am impressed with the Solo's vapor production, both in terms of cloud density and efficiency. If it weren't for the odor, which I think smells like plastics off-gassing more than anything else, this could be a major part of my rotation. Haven't had it 24 hours yet, so I'll keep cranking it through heating cycles in the hopes it stops stinking. I have had other electronics, ones that weren't meant to be involved in inhaling, that had similar odors that did eventually go away. A Bose tuner of mine had a similar smell when new.

I just remembered what else it reminds me of - I briefly worked in a factory back in the '80s that made cruise control switches for Ford. Some of the plastic components smelled exactly like it.

I got mine for $160 on Amazon, so I'm guessing I won't be able to get warranty service from Arizer? Earlier in the release, I know they said they'd only honor the warranty on ones priced MSRP. They still doing that?

I got a couple cool hits, then had to put the tamer back in the freezer for more than an hour.
Can anyone else comment on how much use they get before having to refreeze? The Rockzap is fixed temp, so maybe with a lower temp on the Solo, a bit more use is possible?

I find the tamer juuuuuust enough for 1 quick sesh... I typically do my first hit or 2 without it [the yummy ones] followed by the tamer.

When it's an evening event or similar binge... i keep a bowl of ice nearby and let it "chill" with me between hits/bowls

;)

I also use the Tamer on my EQ, fits right in and the domed screens fit with a slight pinch. I got it after seeing it on this thread. Haven't had the tamer that long, but it does warm up fast, a few tokes and I have to refreeze. Not what I was hoping it would be when I ordered it. I plan on getting a Solo but will probably wait till the bugs are worked out. :peace:

Tracy,
The point is just don't let the battery run completely down. After 4-5 12 min sessions I usually put on charger and walk away. My guess is you could go 10 sessions depending on what temp you choose. I am usually well medicated in an hour of vaping. But that could be different for other people. My rule of thumb for me; If I am not content in 4-5 sessions I better buy better herb. Glad you like your new toy.

Since you are new to vaping, put you AVB in a vile and save until you decide if edibles might be something to try. Great hobby and I am just getting started on edibles too so no pro here by any means.
