Discontinued The Grasshopper

Vaporific

All who wander are not lost...
I’ve had all my Grasshoppers refunded.
Hopper Labs just didn’t reply to my multiple RMA requests & PayPal refunded me.
Local resellers are no longer stocking the GH here & refunded me as well.
I’m left with a heap of empty GH boxes, some accessories, a whole lot of batteries & one messed up Hopper to remind me not to do it again.
For a while I was annoyed with myself for constantly paying the shipping & hoping things would get better, but I got over it & bought a Flower Pot.
That’s been fun to use & completely distracting so it’s all good now.
Best of luck to you all.
Let me know if you want to sell any batteries; I'd buy a few. Aside from imminently sending my pre-order Ti in for RMA for the first time, which I'm dreading based on all the recent posts (I lurked on this forum two years ago), I'm not giving HL any more money. They need to right the ship and produce a consistent and reliable product - and they have only one! I can't imagine them expanding any time soon either as they're underwater with all the RMAs. Ugh.

Has any vaporizer company ever been as bad as Hopper Labs? It is the most unreliable vaporizer ever made. They show blatant disregard towards customers. Their customer service is laughable. Surely the end is near.
You can add they lose RMA’s. It took a whole month of back and forth with them before they fessed up that they lost my hopper:rolleyes:

Sooo... not sure if this is an issue at all... my Hopper started making that ticking noise I've heard a few times before. Whenever I heard it before, I would instinctively loosen the back end and screw it back on. Just didn't sound right. This time I thought what the hell, vaguely remembering postings here (or on Reddit?) saying that wasn't a bad thing. And there are pros: it stopped flickering at all, it's a lot faster in heating up, the backend stays completely cool. Also I have the notion the battery life is better. That has started three days ago and I'm kind of getting superstitious here, like I don't want to jinx it either way *lol* - pretty sure if I unscrew/tighten the backend, it will get to the flickering backend heating state of before - which worked for me, but now it's better. The ticking makes me a little nervous though, it just doesn't sound appropriate to me. Has anyone here knowledge based insight?

Both my hoppers had been in for RMA multiple times before they both went in for months during the rma hell time. Both came back malfunctioning, had to send them both back in again, both came back malfunctioning again. After that they agreed to just send me replacement bodies and...

The first new one came and seemed to be working great, and then last night it started to only work somewhat sometimes. I use it through a bong with water and I could see the glass start to milk up and then it would start to clear as I'm pulling. Sometimes I could get it to give me some vapor and other times not at all. The abv was getting barely blonde. Then today I can't even get it to ever start milking at all. Just the barely, barest mist and that's it. I tried it with my other back end, same thing.

I would have been more upset, but I knew my second body was due to arrive today and...

It did arrive and I loaded it up, took two amazing hits and the third one incinerated in a flash. I didn't even get to vape one load out of it. Since my other one is not doing shit, I even tried turning this one down but it still incinerated the material.

As it stands right now I have four hopper bodies in my possession and not one of them works.

I LOVE my hoppers when they're working. I am desperate to get them working, but I'm losing faith that it'll ever happen.
Update: This is the response I got back the next day from Hopper labs...

"We apologize for the issues with your devices. We must have some compatibility error. We have just implemented our Version 5 internal hardware which should eliminate any of these remaining issues. We can have a few new bodies with this technology ready in for you in the next 15 days."

I know I'm crazy, but I'm still holding out hope. I can't help it, I love them so much when they're working that I STILL just hope they got it right THIS time.

the ticking is normal as far as I know that is also the reason why the vape is named grasshopper... but this question was asked a lot in the past and answered...

So why is named Grasshopper for the ticking when just a few seem to tick at all? And start and stop ticking? That was asked many times, I know that, I just don't think it has been properly answered. It's hearsay, no explanation what might be ticking and why it appears not to be ticking constantly

Mine stopped ticking btw, backend gets hotter, heat up time a bit longer. Bummer. Miss the friendly ticking ;)

Sorry to hear this. Honestly however, I'm not surprised as the number of RMAs seems to be voluminous and they likely mislabeled it, lost it or took it home as one of their own. I can see it now - racks (or tables) of RMAs in their shop sitting on top of pieces of paper with people's names on it - everything getting mixed up. Their less-than-stellar customer service is indicative of a 'messy desk' operation and lack of inventory control. Heck, that was one of their initial problems during capital start-up - they couldn't get suppliers reigned it. They're a mess. But I do love my Hopper even though it's going back for RMA soon. Sigh.

The chirping noise is pulse width modulation, or power-line communications.

It's normal to be able to hear it, though it's often only a faint noise.

Hot back ends and flickering lights seem to indicate power delivery issues, which might make PLC inaudible, though it must still be working.

It's basically black magic

So here is my story with the replacement body I purchased.

1. It arrived and worked perfectly. Great clouds at 3.5 and 4. 5 would send me through the roof in glass. Two days after getting it, it died. Straight to red light then off. Nothing. Email them, they send me a new one, and I return the old one.

2. Second body arrived, again same thing. Amazing performance, does what it is supposed to do. Then 2 days later, straight to red light then off. Nothing. I email them, they tell me to open an RMA case using my serial number and they will send me a new one right away.

3. Third body has now arrived and it is working, but....differently. (it only arrived on Tuesday, so we will see if it survives the weekend)

So I'm finding that my hopper now does 1 of two things.

At 5, it basically clears the bowl in one pull from a bong (sneaky pete globe) and if you take a second pull at 5, combustion. But this only happens sometimes. If I notice when I hit the button if it takes a LONG time to heat up, it basically is about to combust everything inside. But if it takes a normal amount of time to heat up, it's fine. But I have to watch every time I click the button to notice the difference.

Am I doing something wrong? or am I shit out of luck again? At this point, I think I just have to send the entire thing in for RMA, I don't think that there is anything wrong with my back end though since every body has worked when I first screw it in. It also works with it's original body, but it doesn't produce any heat (which was why I bought the first spare body in the first place).

If there is a new V5 of the body and heater, should I wait or send them an email asking them about it? It's easily my favorite way to vape when it is working. I just want it working.

Mine used to chirp.. listened for it this morning and it didn't do it. 5 chanbers on 5 and the battery started to flicker 3.69v it read when I threw it on the charger ... So it's still working great but no more noise.? A couple days ago I was trying the backend and it had a loud click and the resistance became looser.. still working great tho! @mario I know you got yours the same time as mine but mines a little older with the back end. My body and back end have had no problems so it looks like you grabbed a shorter straw:hmm:

Good luck everyone

This is comical. First pack. Temp 4. Combustion in hydratube with PFE and glass adapter.

Edit: I’ll clean it to get smoke smell out. and try at temp 3 and see what happens

Edit edit: I decided to go to lowest end of dial instead of 3. Combustion. Definitely broken :-(

Sometimes in the heat of the moment it’s best to purge LOL.

I’m wondering what GH’s next step is. No response yet.

Also - just incredibly weird that a unit on first load and battery sent back by them combusts. Maybe something is happening in shipping?
Good questions. I'll be posting here as soon as I get my new v5 bodies. See how they do. It's going to be a long 15 day wait for me.

I received mine September 4th...( new body ). The original was not getting hot enough, back end started to heat somewhat. Now I’m being very gentle with it...short slow draws as possible and added a screen in the chamber plus not using the original charger. Also not using a bubbler with close opening to the water, nor do I use a no spill. Natively, 1-3 secs after feeling hot air I stop which should be enough for big clouds

Will update in time
