Cell phones and texting are a great invention but I get tired of being available 24/7 to pesky people. I'm ready to turn my phone off.

I checked out Facebook some years back. I never wanted to join. I know folks that are on Facebook everyday all day. FC is my choice for social internet - not interested in Facebook in the least. I would think it would make life more complicated and busy.

I have folks at work that try to encourage me to join Facebook. They act like it's weird that I haven't joined.

I'm ready to turn my phone off.

You know you're allowed to do that. Some of the people in my life act like there's some kind of law or something that stops them from ever turning their cell phone off but mine still works just fine whenever I decide to turn it back on.

It's here as a tool for me to use when i need it... I'm not here for it.

So many comments I can make about social media addiction. I was a hold out for a long time about getting a cel phone. Employers have offered to buy me phones before.

Precisely! When the technology of cel phones met my needs for owning one was when I joined the borg. :borg:

I haven't forgotten myself and children should be exposed more to a history that didn't have cel phones. Or better yet. Imagine rural life around the early 20th century and the intrusion into daily life that a single call made. People who wanted to see you before that had to visit you or send you a hand delivered telegraph. Imagine the solitary pastoral life being abruptly intruded upon by the bell ring sound of the telephone.

I also hate being tied to the battery life of the cel phone.

I got off work and went for a walk down one of my favorite trails that feels more removed from town than it really is. Stopped and had a quick vape and a late lunch along the way. The food was good, the vape was better. Best part was enjoying it all in nature. Life is good.

Biked this weekend from home and spent the night at a primitive campsite. Pumped my own water from a stream and set up camp. Biked 80+ miles to my destination and then home within the next day. :rockon:A personal best.
There is cooling magnets in the VC setup. BTW. Just not visible.

My Galaxy S6 has a "Do not disturb" option that mutes all notifications without shutting down the device. Can set some contacts as exceptions, though I haven't. It keeps me in charge by being able to glance at it and see if a notification light is flashing, then decide whether I give a damn about checking on who it was. Maybe your phone has something like that?

Or, as @RUDE BOY said, you can just turn it off and on when convenient for you. :)

I am about 2 weeks into my extreme caveman (Paleolithic) diet....
And its amazing, I want to spread the word...
Iv never felt so good....

So all iv been eating is mainly fish, occasional chicken, salad, fruit, veg, small amounts of nuts, water....
And that's basically it....
Maybe some good quality msg / preservative / additive free, organic jerky as a treat...
Caveman had this....

I do not miss milk, bread, butter, and all the grains we are not evolved to eat....
Our genome has not adapted to refined sugar and all these chemicals...
We are meant to eat like cavemen did...

This is worth a read...
http://thepaleodiet.com/paleo-diet-faq/
Explains it well..

I would like to add that im not fat, but was starting to get a belly on me..
2 weeks after this diet and I am looking more toned and lean than I have ever been...
Im stronger than ever.. much stronger..
My digestive system is happier than ever, no stomach aches and no getting bloated anymore...

This is one more step (after fucking combution and quitting fizzy drinks) to me becoming super healthy....

I owe my body this after nearly 20 years of hardcore abuse....

Glad to hear you're enjoying your new diet and that it's working for you. But I don't buy into this statement too much. We evolve, genomes and all. Maybe not to eat toxic chemicals, one of which many folks consider refined sugar to be. But the preparation and consumption of food has evolved, as has the human body, since the days of the Neanderthals. For example, I'm a vegetarian, and a moderately healthy one, too. Were there vegetarian Neanderthals?

Food is the world's largest industry. To believe that those who profit from that industry are looking out for our dietary interests is foolhardy, plain and simple. That includes the meat/poultry/fish industries. One of the main reasons I became a vegetarian way back when was because I couldn't stomach allowing an industry remove me from the killing and preparation of animals for the purpose of eating them. I decided I wasn't willing to do it myself, so why should I let an industry do it for me. I stopped eating it.

I'm with you on eliminating all the chemicals and additives in prepared food, which means I eat as organically as possible. If I'm not willing to allow an industry to kill my meat for me, why should I be ok with it poisoning me with colorful weird smelling chemically processed food? (And folks wonder why today's children have so many strange health issues...).

Anyway, Neanderthals worked harder for their food than I do, that's for sure. But I'm not going so far as to believe that they had eating better figured out than I do.

Mainly due to dental problems and lack of medical knowledge...
Not their diet.

And as for the evolution, we have only got to the point of eating cooked meats, we are still not suited to eating most of todays food..
Far from it..

The fact that we can be a vegetarian and Neanderthal man wasn't, doesn't seem like evidence that we have evolved in this relatively short time..

I mean you must have to eat specific things to get the right amount of nutrition, such as protein, as a vegetarian..
If we had evolved to it, you could survive with no issues on just say, cucumber...
But we can't..

Also I'm happy to kill and eat food... i thinks that's natural and fine...
I'll happily kill/butcher a pheasant, and eat it...
I find it quite rewarding...

I would never kill an animal for sport...

While we're on the subject of high protein diets....

Protein can be broken down by the body and used for energy when nothing else is available internally but it takes more calories to break it down for energy than the energy it actually provides. This is why so many people try high protein diets to lose weight and burn fat.

For some .... the goal of high protein diets is to have their body enter ketosis (a metabolic state in which some of the body's energy supply comes from ketone bodies in the blood, in contrast to a state of glycolysis in which blood glucose provides energy.) Care must be taken so that ketosis isn't taken too far or the body experiences ketoacidosis which can cause some serious issues. It doesn't take much in the way of carbs to throw the body out of ketosis which makes it tough to stay in the state and not hurt yourself over the long haul.

Some folks use a high protein diet to jump start a weight loss program but take it too far and end up breaking down muscle.

I've used some of these techniques when I was younger but I could never stay with it for more than a few weeks because I took it to the extremes and felt like crap.

Carol King made me smile, cos I am also (so totally) not into Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat or any of that ,Orwellian, nonsense. I have an old Nokia, (kinda looks like a poor persons blackberry, lol - remember them?) When fools are saying they can't survive without their phone, I just smile, and contrast that with what transpired the other week, when I realized I hadn't seen my phone for about two days, (just goes to show how much I use it,) anyway, about three days later, I found it in the shed down at the allotment!

As for FB, don't get me started, I mean, why anyone would (willingly) allow the corporate 'Cosmocrats' to have access and (in effect) control of all the information/data about themselves, (ironically provided by them) is well, beyond me!

Just saying,:hmm:

Kinda gross isn't it.

On an (un)related note, Mr. Bannon states "If there's any confusion out there, let me clear it up: I'm leaving the White House and going to war for Trump against his opponents — on Capitol Hill, in the media, and in corporate America," he said. Also kinda gross.

Peace and all good, as a wise man once said.

You're an actor and you pick up a role on Star Trek. If they hand you a red shirt on your way to the dressing room, you're pretty sure you're not coming back for another episode. If the script has you you wearing a red shirt and beaming down with Kirk, you know you're not coming back for another episode. He'll make sure you get taken care of, one ugly way or another.

I bought eclipse glasses to wear through Amazon a month ago. Now I've been reading about counterfeit glasses being sold. Of course mine are not on NASA's list of safe manufacturers. I deleted a bunch of emails right before I heard talk that Amazon sent out warnings to some customers. Amazon sends out so much after sale info about making a comment on what you bought, often I don't pay attention.

The glasses I bought are through Beemo Creations now I'm worried about using them. They have the right numbers imprinted on the glasses - ISO 12312-2-2015. I wanted to drive 100 miles down the freeway to see the eclipse at 99%. Here we see it at 92%. My husband is working so I will see it at 92%. The freeway is going to be crazy. I don't want to drive. Monday the 21st is the big day.

I'm amazed at how our US politicians are the masters of the non-answer, answer. Absolutely brilliant at it. Just imagine what it would be like .... If they were half as good at getting something done, as they are at dodging the answer to why they didn't.

I don't even know why reporters bother asking the tough questions.

I wish we could restrict the responses to either the truth or silence. At least then we wouldn't have to bother listening 99% of the time.

Maybe we could make the question and answer sessions a oral test. At the end of the year you either have a passing grade or have to find a real job.

I get irritated when I hear people that stay behind during a horrendous storm, like a category 3. That puts other lives in danger as well like our fighter fighters, emergency personnel at hospitals and police. Get the fuck out if their is a huge storm. Remember Hurricane Katrina? I understand if you are worried about your house and farm animals but your life is more important.

Everyone take good care of yourself on the Texas Gulf Coast. I have relatives that live 30 mi from Corpus Christi. The have left to stay at my nephew's in-laws house. Some folks refuse to leave no matter what the danger is. I hope we don't see a lot of people that will drown. The predicted water levels sound horrific. I hope they are wrong. We might see people sitting on top of their roofs needing to be rescued?
