Hola FC:
After all @WakeAndVape and now @Vapor_Eyes fast draw techniques I believe I've had covered all the tips for the SBJ.
This fast draw tip it's awesome @Vapor_Eyes.
I like shortcuts. Much appreciated @WakeAndVape too.
Tanks to everyone in this forum to make life easier for everyone. Much appreciated.
Just waiting to try S&B micro dosing capsules and micro dosing oil pads. Can't wait to.
It's amazing the SB signature, probably every wood and strain and owner make it different. Something that we need to appreciate.
Thanks @StickyBricks @Slow Draw McGraw @PuffItUp anf of course you guys and FC whole...
Stay vaped my friends.

Edit: @Vapor_Eyes I believe the fast draw technique allows you to feel when the flame "engages" the convection heating when you aim in the right spot. It's like you feel that cloud gulping thing, right???

I'm Bricked!!!

Cap plus pad is wax/flower heaven! @StickyBricks bringing on that holiday joy! This is my only home setup now, no need for that silly wax pen or full rig when I can combo vape.

I do indeed feel it when it hits that sweet spot. My throat isn't very sensitive to heat, but I can feel the thickness of the vapor, like I'm gulping a cloud as you so eloquently state. I love how full bodied the vapor is, it's like a glass of a nice Cabernet Sauvignon.

I do feel the heat a little more with the Junior than the OG Brick, because of the shorter vapor path. I actually prefer that little bit of throat hit, as I used to smoke cigarettes for far too many years.

Is there a metal stir stick available I can replace the toothpick with? I think it'd look really clean in the holder, and it'd be doubly useful if the one end was spoon shaped

I had the privilege of trying out both a Walnut and a Cherry Junior, both brand new, and I must say, the Walnut is much woodier. Right out of the box you smell it. Not the case with the Cherry. You still get some wood flavor with the Cherry but it's much more subtle.

yeah, a dual action tool with a scoop on one end and pick on the other would be clutch. it would be useful for other vapes as well.
The only thing remotely close to that that I found is this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Simple-4in1...332592?hash=item4d2b8fe5f0:g:jaAAAOSwkNZUqjmF

Disregard everything in the photos except the scooper tool. Its the only one I can find that has an actual SCOOP (not a flat plate) while still being small enough to store in the Junior with the cover on. It looks like it may or may not be barely too wide for the SBJ's toothpick hole. I guess you could bore out the hole slightly with a drill bit if you had to. Yes the scoop is tiny, but since I microdose that's not a bad thing. In fact i'll bet it holds something like 0.01 so it would be good for measuring doses. Also that scoop tool is not pointy at the opposite end, but it could still work as a stirring tool. It just wont be as satisfying to stir with the way a poker is.
If you really wanted to go all out you could make a 2nd hole in the Junior, one for the scoop, one for the pick...

I don't know if it will fit but here is something. @Ratchett makes these and he could help you out.

I have the stir-n-scoop one and absolutely love it. I'm curious if this would fit, I only worry about the rougher middle part not fitting right. Actually I guess even without it it could be too big, I'll see if I can tell by looking at the one I have tonight.

I love these guys too but I think the flat part wouldn't fit:

Who's got a 3d printer? lol

I just got mine a couple days ago and I feel like this thing hits waaay harder than it should for its size. can't wait until my pinnacle water tool gets here

@mccringleberry if you found one that'd fit but only had the flat top tool, i'd still be interested in a link

Hello, I am currently on about page 10, I'm loving the look of this, I have some questions,
How easy is it to combust? Is the lighter provided a safe guard against combustion almost?
Is the air path cool enough? Is there a small water tool for this?
Thanks.

Hola FC:
I just have plenty of pokers and thingies for stirring and so...
But the old and reliable paperclip is as useful as always, and they are mostly free anywhere...

I found a small one at the moment, but you guys got the idea...
Preferably next time I'll start the tamper from the center and do the coil outwards, next time...
I'm ok with how it is now, when I lose it or break it, I'll make a proper one...
CSg6mqA.jpg

If you have a thicker wire, you can hammer and flatten the end of the poker and McGyverit to resemble a spoon/stirrer, ideally not wider than the holder itself...

Tamps very well...
dfHTlqa.jpg

You can't even tell that's in there, and it's kind of hard to lose it as well, it sticks pretty easy to the magnets...
q9EKi7N.jpg

And when you pack to go, it's as stealth as it comes, not interfering on any aspect of the snap magnetic closure that I'm liking even more...

Thanks @StickyBricks for an amazing SBJ....

i don't understand your lighter safeguard question but I'm getting the hang of using mine and even tho i suck I've only combusted for a sec once accidentally. As for the water tool, i was recommended a pinnacle pro water tool and a 14mm male-male adapter, and I'm waiting on mine to arrive in the mail

^ Does the Junior still reach vaporization temps like that? You torch the end of the Vapcap but I'm failing to see how the current will stay hot enough to cook anything in the Junior's chamber. Still cool though.
Nope, it just has the vapor from the shatter go through it and captures some. The flower is usually a little shiny afterwards. I've seen other people call it infusion.

Anyone else has had problems like this where you get unevenly burned bowls at first?
How did you avoid it?

I started using the technique found somewhere in this thread, speeding up the airflow as soon as vapor can be seen, as well as opening the carbhole for short bursts.

Are you tamping the bowl down? Looks like it but hard to tell from the pic. If so, try zero or a very light tamp. I rap on the side with my knuckles to level things and that's it. If not, it's more about technique and you may need to either dial back your torch, back off the intake, increase your draw or a combo of these.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

All the things @6079Smith said, particularly the tamping. You want air to flow easily through the material in the bowl. Also try (I am starting to feel like a broken record, sorry if anyone finds this annoying) putting a screen under the intake tube. A 1/2 in screen fits perfectly under the glass tube (so right between the intake tube and the wood of the Jr) or a bigger screen can be squished up into the metal ring on the underside of the intake. Either way, I find this nearly eliminates the risk of combustion and even seems to reduce hot spots and charring when going for big high temp hits.

Edit to add: How many hits had you taken on that bowl before taking that pic? I usually stir every couple hits, or every hit if I'm going big haha. But I don't mind stirring, I like the little rituals. Some people can't stand stirring for some reason. I always find the hit right after a stir is really nice, though...

I put a screen directly under the intake glass but it resulted in a funny taste?? Or could it be my imagination?

BongBaka, that's about right. Mine looks exactly like that after the first few hits (with no intake screen).
My hope is that the Mighty/Crafty dosing capsules will reduce the uneven cooking. The theory is that the capsules add a degree of conduction which would cook everything in the capsule more evenly as the heat from that hotspot disperses through the metal since metal is a good heat conductor. And I would just flip the capsule a few times during the session. As soon as i get a capsule I'll report back.

Huh, this has not been my experience... I personally consider that scorching and while it still happens occasionally, most of my bowls are not scorched and produce uniform ABV. I've actually been continually impressed with just how consistent the abv has been! I use no mods, fill bowl to step, no tamp, and err on the weak side with the torch. I set my torch so low sometimes that the bowl stops producing vapor until, if unsatisfied with abv color, I bump it up slightly.

The capsules fit beautifully but I've just used them for the liquid pad. They would take away a lot of pros for me- the near pure convection, instant cool down, ease of stirring, packing straight out my Jyarz, and the satisfaction of emptying the bowl with a good whack to the palm :) Not that it won't work well or anything, just less suited for my needs and haven't found it necessary for well extracted abv

That scorched pic kinda makes me think both carb holes were being covered or super high flame used. Never have I had such uneven bake on my buds with Jr
I still get those results even when following the instructions to a tee. I only use the carb hole and have my flame set low - inner flame 1/2" long, outer flame around 1" long, per the instructions.
If I don't heat her up long enough, the hits are very light and wispy which is the only way for me to cook it evenly (but that requires taking 10 light/wispy hits on .04 of ground herb). When I do get those big hits / big clouds, there is no avoiding that distinct dark brown spot of AVB surrounded by green.
Hell, I accidentally combusted yesterday towards the end of a session and upon inspection, the charred spot was right next to pieces of herb that were still kind of green. Doesn't matter how I operate the carb hole, doesn't matter how small my flame is, or how much I vary the distance of the flame from the intake, or how much I vary my inhalation rate - if I get a big hit on a fresh load, it's going to look like BongBaka's photo (not that that's a bad thing, as long as there's no combustion I don't mind - that's what stirring is for). But this is why I want to try some S&B capsules - to make this vape easier to use and get more consistent results with conduction thrown in the mix. Don't get me wrong, this vape is still a keeper.

Been a while since I've browsed this thread but I love my Junior. Love my brick too! SB products are the shit. Just wanted to say when I first got my Junior, I was having the same exact problem you are describing. It was so frustrating...I never had issues like that with my brick. I was about to give up on Jr because I kept charring and combusting bowls trying to hit it like I did with Sr. Well @Vapor_Eyes had detailed a new method of drawing. Very counter intuitive, especially if you are having charring/combustion issues, but it fucking works like magic. Basically you rip as hard as you fucking can with the carb closed. Big clouds and super even roasting. Game changer for sure. Works in the Brick Sr. as well. I'll try and go back and find his post where he talks about it in more detail...but I just saw your post and a few pictures of the charring in previous posts and I feel your pain. Once I adopted the super fast carb closed draw technique I never looked back.

Found it...
I've been experimenting with a new technique with Junior after reading all this talk about scorching and charring.

I've been pretty lucky and haven't had too much trouble with that, although I almost always have a "hot spot" of centralized heat and extraction. It can get toasty in there but not charred unless I push it too far.

I used to go for long sustained hits, using the carb and flame distance to regulate temperature. If going for a big hit I would try to hit it as long as possible which got me into trouble a couple of times.

Lately I've been experimenting with using only draw speed to regulate temperature.

I keep the intake pointed forward, I find it easier to keep an eye on everything this way. I keep the carb closed the whole time I'm heating, and only use it to clear the hit.

I use a strong flame, about an inch, maybe more. I generally place it centered in the intake, with the angle matching the intake, ~45°, or pointed down a little bit more, towards the carb. Pointing down a bit seems to raise the temperature and milk it more.

I keep the outer light blue flame flush with the intake, or just a little inside the intake.

I start with a medium to slow draw speed. Once I start to see good vapor I increase draw speed as much as possible. This makes for a shorter hit as I run out of lung capacity much sooner. However, I've found it still gives big, dense hits, and they're actually more concentrated than the hits from my old technique because I'm not opening up the carb.

So the hits are at least as big, but they feel bigger, and they're very smooth because of the fast draw speed. And the best part is I find this technique almost eliminates hot spots. Even with my massive hits there is no hot spot at all until the very end of the bowl when everything is dried out and almost spent. The bowl stays greener for longer than before, with more consistent performance from hit to hit.

This technique is actually allowing for a more even extraction than I'm used to with my Brick. I'm going to have to adjust my technique with that based on what I've learned with Junior.
