But by not adopting his opposition to the tpp, as it's written today, she is selling out many of the other planks she is adopting
All or nothing. All or nothing. How Republican of you...

If Hillary were to push opposition to TPP to that degree she would lose many of us who support TPP. Sorry, the Dem platform isn't going to include opposition to what the sitting Dem President supports. Not only is it not gonna happen, it shouldn't happen...

:2c: Good for corporations, but bad for people and the environment they live in.

"The TPP is much more than a “free trade” agreement. It is part of a global race to the bottom to boost the profits of large corporations and Wall Street by outsourcing jobs; undercutting worker rights; dismantling labor, environmental, health, food safety and financial laws; and allowing corporations to challenge our laws in international tribunals rather than our own court system. If TPP was such a good deal for America, the administration should have the courage to show the American people exactly what is in this deal, instead of keeping the content of the TPP a secret."

"The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is poised to become the largest Corporate Trade Agreement in U.S. history. The massive trade and investment pact is currently being negotiated behind-closed-doors between the United States and countries throughout the Pacific Rim — except for 600 big business advisers who are helping to write the law. TPP countries currently include the United States, Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam with Mexico and Canada recently joining. The TPP intended to become the trade law for the world as it includes a “docking agreement” that allows all nations will join over time.

Powerful corporate interests want to use the TPP to:

• Offshore good-paying jobs to low-wage nations and undercut working conditions globally and further reducing wages in the United States

• Create new tools for attacking environmental, health, labor and consumer safety standards

• Expand the deregulation of banks, hedge funds and insurance companies

• Further concentrate global food supplies, displacing family farmers and subjecting consumers to wild price fluctuations

• Institute longer patents that restrict access to affordable, generic medications"

 In point of fact, the tpp trade agreement is pretty much the opposite of the stated dnc platform.

Three reasons to support the TPP agreement

Multilateralism is back: The United States and 11 other countries reached an agreement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Despite its many advantages, however, in the coming weeks you will hear increasingly from the deal's critics: Ford Motor Company already came out against TPP because there is not a currency-manipulation provision; Donald Trump has dismissed it as a "disaster"; and Bernie Sanders calls it "disastrous."

But it's important to remember these three reasons why the TPP would be beneficial in the long run:

102535920-TPP.530x298.jpg

Getty Images
1) Economics. The U.S. exported more than $622 billion in goods in 2013 -- nearly $2 billion each day -- to TPP member countries in 2013, according to the U.S. trade office. Because we live in a highly interconnected and competitive world, price discrepancies caused by tariffs can make U.S. products less affordable abroad. For instance, Vietnam slaps a 27-percent tariff on automotive parts manufactured in the United States. Malaysia adds a 40-percent tariff on U.S. poultry. The United States isn't a stranger to protectionism, instituting tariffs on imported sugar. The TPP would lessen these tariffs, over the course of several years, creating a more level playing field among countries that are already trading copiously with each other.

President Obama is correct in his assessment, "When more than 95 percent of our potential customers live outside our borders, we can't let countries like China write the rules of the global economy. We should write those rules."

Negotiators strike Pacific trade deal

2) Geopolitics. The TPP is an economic means to achieve a geopolitical vision, to rebalance America's priorities and increase its influence in Asia. For one, the agreement draws closer together two allies -- the United States and Japan. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has heralded the plan as central to his Abenomics growth plan, and the accord may even boost Japan's GDP by more than 2 percent, according to the Peterson Institute for International Economics. In contrast, China is conspicuously absent from the agreement.

Even though China's economy is suffering a slowdown, it still has deep economic ties with other Asian countries. For example, Japan is one of the largest foreign direct investors in China, and there was over $330 billion in trade between these two countries in 2012.

The TPP creates a sizeable counterweight to China's economic influence in the region. There is hope that one day China may even join the TPP, wanting to access better trade terms with countries with which it is already trading. Moreover, the success of TPP may generate momentum to the U.S.-EU trade pact known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) which has stalled.

Analyst: Banks could have nasty earnings season

3) Standards. The TPP comes with strict guidelines on environmental and labor standards, too. It addresses overfishing and illegal logging. It also seeks to limit the trafficking of endangered species. The TPP also provides a forum for citizens to point out how their own countries are falling short of their environmental commitments. TPP also requires that member countries institute minimum wages, allow workers to form unions, and adhere to the labor rights specified by the International Labor Organization.

Nonetheless, the TPP will face resistance in Congress, as some members will try to make political points for opposing what may be a cardinal achievement for President Obama. But if Congress rejects this deal, which originated during President George W. Bush's administration, it won't just be a blow to Obama but eleven of our allies - and be harmful to American interests in the long run.

 ^ from cnbc, who can only offer a decidedly pro-corporate perspective...

What about labor and environmental rights, animal and health protections being trampled upon?

Only a 'reagan democrat' could even say this with a straight face...
How Republican of you...
Me?! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black, the tpp is like a republican wet dream!

With the Trans-Pacific Partnership, It's Obama and the GOP vs. the Democrats

2016_0607o_.jpg

President Barack Obama walks through a curtain following a tour of the DreamPlex Coworking Space in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, May 24, 2016. Earlier that day, Obama spoke in Hanoi, addressing the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, among other topics. (Photo: Doug Mills / The New York Times)

Whether he wins the Democratic presidential nomination or not, Bernie Sanders will play a big role in writing the Democratic Party platform.

Of the 15 members of the official Democratic National Committee platform writing committee, five will be Sanders' picks, including environmental activist Bill McKibben, renowned scholar Cornel West and pro-Palestinian activist James Zogby. These are real progressives and they will give progressives a real chance to put their stamp on the future of the Democratic Party. They could also play a big role in the fight against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, which I like to call the Southern Hemisphere Asian Free Trade Agreement -- SHAFTA.

As it stands right now, the TPP's best chance of passing is in the slim window of time between Election Day and Inauguration Day -- the so-called lame duck session of Congress. This is really the easiest time for President Obama to push through a massively unpopular trade deal like the TPP without anybody noticing.

The corporate media will be too busy speculating about who'll join the new president's cabinet to bother covering something they never really covered anyway -- and because Election Day will have come and gone, lawmakers will be free (from the White House's perspective, at least) to vote as they like without having to worry about the consequences at the ballot box.

We've seen this kind of thing before. Taking advantage of media cluelessness and public apathy during the lame-duck session to pass unpopular and unsavory legislation is a time-honored tradition.

For example, back in 2000, Bill Clinton worked with Republicans in the final months of his presidency to pass the Commodities Futures Modernization Act, the Wall Street deregulation bill that more or less caused the Great Recession.

If he wants to pass the TPP, President Obama, like President Clinton in 2000, will also have to rely on Republican votes. In fact, he pretty much has to rely on Republican votes because the TPP wouldn't stand a chance in a Democratic-controlled Congress. What makes this even more screwed-up than it already is the fact that Democrats actually have a very good chance of retaking the Senate this November.

Apparently, President Obama would rather force through a massively unpopular so-called free trade deal with the help of Republicans than potentially let members of his own party -- and maybe a Democratic presidential successor -- decide what they want to do with it.

That's where the Democratic Convention Platform comes in.

As Dave Johnson of the Campaign for America's Future argues, it could be an opportunity to force President Obama's hand on the TPP. "Democrats," he writes, "should pass a strong platform trade plank committing to opposition to TPP and similar 'free trade' agreements, and demanding that Democrats do what they can to stop a vote on TPP from occurring after the election."

There's no one in a better position to do this than Bernie Sanders.

President Obama might still go ahead and push it through a Republican-controlled Congress, but that will be a lot harder and more politically costly to do if it violates official party policy in the form of a platform plank.

Progressives have a real opportunity at this year's convention to change the Democratic Party and the country -- and they should take advantage of it.

There are so many reasons to not support trade agreements like the TPP and the Atlantic version. As they stand they benefit the rich and powerful and the corps over the 99%. That is just a fact.

So, supporting the Clinton Campaign we have Hillary and Bill, VP Joe Biden and Jill, POTUS and Michelle, Bernie (and maybe Jane), Elizabeth Warren, and most of the elected Democratic party.

Trump has his wife, a couple hated Governors, a disgraced former Speaker of the House, the NRA, the KKK, various other white supremacist organizations, Cariboo Barbie, and the handful of other Republicans who don't mind getting shit on them.

Are we ready to Rumble?

The Republicans only chance is to rip the nomination away from Trump in a extremely contentious and hostile manner that will leave EVERYONE in their party INCLUDING his millions of voters very very pissed off. What will they do?

To add to that VERY esteemed  list is:

Mike Tyson
Don King
Charlie Sheen
Jesse Ventura
Gene Simmons
Dennis Rodman
Tila Tequila
Gary Busey
Hulk Hogan
Wayne Newton

I'm not quite sure what kind of title I would put on that group but it should be very apparent that my use of the word "esteemed" was as sarcastic as I could fucking make it. No doubt that some of those mentioned above will be guest speakers at his convention.

SNL couldn't have come up with a better roster.

But there's not one person in that group that I would be proud to be associated with. Not one. (well, maybe I'd make an exception for Tila.... but I'd have to change the word "proud" to something else.)

But then I read this on Wiki:
"On December 2013, Nguyen (Tila Tequila) caused controversy by posting an article on her website titled "Why I Sympathize with Hitler: Part I", although she stated that her views on Hitler were not derived from antisemitism on her part, nor any feelings toward Jewish people. Nguyen stated:

For those of you who focus on the victims of war well that is just part of war. What do you think war is about? People DIE in wars that is why I am against wars. It brought me to tears because I used to think all of those horrible things about him [Hitler] until I learned the truth about the war and what Hitler truly did and he was not a bad person as they have painted him out to be. Here is a man who was not a coward, stood up for his country in a DESPERATE TIME OF NEED (unlike all of our cowardly leaders), and yet not only did he try his best to help his country and people get out of what was a time of depression, economic collapse, high unemployment, amongst many other things.[58]

She also posted pro-Hitler and antisemitic comments on her Facebook page,[59] as well as photos of herself as a scantily clad Nazi posing in front of a photo of the Auschwitz concentration camp. These actions angered her Facebook followers, and resulted in Facebook closing her account and removing the material in question.[60]"

Now it makes perfect sense why she would support a guy like Trump, eh?

By necessity as much as preference, Trump's team is crafting a far different lineup. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, one of the likely speakers, praised Trump's plan to use his celebrity connections to reach a broader audience.

"Trump understands that if he can appeal to consumer America, he drowns political America," Gingrich told The Associated Press. He said he had little idea of what kind of show to expect, but recalled a recent conversation with a Trump family member who confidently told him, "We know how to do conventions."

:leaf:Mike Ditka has declined to speak, it looks like. I can't wait.:party: I think I'm looking forward to the Republican Convention more than the Democratic Convention.

At times I thought that Bernie looked like he had taken the poison pill. I'm proud and glad he decided to join Hillary's side. He didn't have too much of a choice unless he wanted to join the Green Party.:)
CK

Clinton said her general-election race against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump will be more enjoyable now that she and Sanders are on the same side. She urged Sanders' supporters to join her campaign and make it their own.

"I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be standing her with Sen. Sanders because I think both of us realize that each of our campaigns together represent the best of who we are, and now it is time for us to take that message to the rest of the country," she said.

Tuesday's rally drew supporters of Clinton and Sanders, some of whom chanted "Bernie" while others chanted "unity." When New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said "we need to elect Hillary," she was interrupted by shouts of "No!" and chants of "Bernie, Bernie."

But there were deafening cheers as Sanders said Clinton would "make an outstanding president and I am proud to stand with her here today."

I said this in an earlier post......If they replace Drumpf with someone reputable and likable....... Sure...they'll piss off the lowest common denominator (and there's plenty of them) but it's not even close to 'EVERYONE' and they'll turn this thing into a real race. Likability and reputation is kryptonite for the presumptive nominees.

I disagree, trump's the gop's only chance to win in 2016 (even if it's a slim one), and they know it :2c:

edit:

It's been ~ 3:1 odds for quite a while now.
Trump is counting on nixon's silent majority to rise once again.
Like they did recently when they re-elected dubya.
Should be fun!

Washington (CNN)Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she doesn't want to conjure up the possibility of Donald Trump in the White House.

"I can't imagine what the country would be -- with Donald Trump as our president," Ginsburg told The New York Times in an interview published Sunday. "For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be -- I don't even want to contemplate that."
Ginsburg, on the high court since 1993, told the Times the prospect of a Trump presidency reminded her of the type of wry comment her late husband might have made.
"'Now it's time for us to move to New Zealand,'" Justice Ginsburg said.
Ginsburg's concerns about the presumptive Republican nominee echoed comments made in an interview with The Associated Press published Friday.
"I don't want to think about that possibility, but if it should be, then everything is up for grabs," Ginsburg told the AP.
But the leader of the court's liberal wing didn't sound too concerned about the possibility -- referring to the next president with the pronoun "she."
"It's likely that the next president, whoever she will be, will have a few appointments to make," Ginsburg, told the AP, a thinly veiled reference to presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
The 83-year-old Ginsburg is the court's oldest justice, but Justices Anthony Kennedy and Stephen Breyer are also in their 70s -- and the potential retirement of the three justices during the next president's term has made Supreme Court nominations a cornerstone of the 2016 campaign. But Ginsburg gave no indication to the AP that she plans to step down in near future.
RELATED: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: 8 is not a good number
Following the death of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, Senate Republicans have refused to consider President Barack Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland.
This leaves the court with eight members, which Ginsburg has said "is not a good number."

She also thinks Trump should be showing his tax statements.
