So 1st time Firefly user here. Just got one from Firefly Friday (2days ago) with extra battery and charger. Getting use to it and learning technique....I know it'll take a few tries but my wife and I are getting the hang of it....but.....

We are only getting maybe 4-5 draws off of it, then after letting it sit for an hour or so...turned off....when I go to use it, I hit pre-heat button for 3 seconds, bowl turns red, then turns off and light blinks red. Battery dead. Thought maybe it was battery so charged up the battery that came in box and same thing. Got 5 draws, turned off for an hour and then tried again, bowl turned red, then shut off and light blinked red. Put fully charged battery in, went to use an hour later....same thing. Seems like device may be draining batteries while even turned off.

So possibly faulty unit? Or is there something I'm missing ? I've searched this thread but it's over 230 pages long.....planning on calling FF tomorrow but wondering if anyone who's had their FF a long time may know something or had this.

Another question I have is about "coarse grind" that FF recommends. Currently don't have a grinder so just hand tearing. Any recommendation on grind for FireFly that seems to work best? Is there a certain grinder or shredder preferred for FireFly use?

Thanks much

Check on the back of battery if its 770mAh or 750.

If its 750, email firefly and tell them that you got a 750 battery inside a new firefly, they will send you a new one.

Faulty unit. I had this exact problem...though of my failed FFs, I only saw this issue once. I think it's a fault in the board somewhere...an erroneous dead battery signal is sent and the heater shuts off. On mine, it happened every time at the 18 second mark. No matter how charged the battery was, the coil wouldn't stay on past 18 seconds, and it always threw a red light at that point. I don't think it's reparable....they'll just send you a new one.

Battery sounds like it could be bad, hand broken bud actually worked best of all in my experience

Not normal, but still could be technique related.

Pack densely. Make sure the lid is on correctly. (If you squeeze the lid and get thicker vapor, your lid magnet may be too weak.) Hold the heat button in for the full 30 seconds before you first draw....and then hold it in for the full cycle when you take your first hit. Don't draw faster than the natural resistance of the FF. You should be able to get the unit, and the bowl, more than hot enough to generate thick vapor. If none of that works it may be an issue with the coil.

Give it a try...be aggressive with the heat button and see if that helps. Good luck!

You hit the nail on the head, if I hold down on the lid in the center I get great hits. I now see what you guys are talking about, this hits great. I have 2 lids and both do the same thing. I guess Ill have to send it back in to get the air leak fixed. Does your material turn black speckled?

thanks Jason

Glad that narrowed it down. Though it's a little odd to have two lids with insufficient seal. Probably stupid to mention, but make sure the seals are clean and nothing is obstructing the lid, like particles of material, or a top screen that may be impeding a tight seal. You may get away with FF just sending you a new lid....sounds like that's the issue.

Yes, if you pack densely you can easily get uneven cooking and small charred bits....it's the nature of convection plus the small number of openings in the FF plate where the air flows. It's a good idea to stir every few hits to mitigate this effect.

Just got off phone with FireFly. Very nice and helpful, though I have to send back my new FireFly for "warranty" to see if they can fix or replace. Could be 14days. That is a drag as I've only had it 3 days. Basically wasn't working out of box with 2 different batteries. So far not psyched with FireFly and having buyers remorse. With all the stellar reviews and personal experiences the FF seemed like the device to get. Time will tell, hopefully they send me a brand new functional unit....they should as I just got it! Will update when I receive replacement.....

I agree with you that waiting 14 days isn't cool. You bought it in good faith and it's clearly not working right...and from what I know of this issue, there's like zero chance they can repair it. They'll just send you a replacement anyway.

Here's what I would do: send it to them, and stay on top of the tracking. When you know they've received it, give 'em a call and see if you can politely convince them to just send you out a replacement ASAP. (It's worth reminding them you only used the FF for three days, bought it in good faith, etc.) My FF experience has been very good, once you get a person on the phone with whom you can share your story. I know the one thing they value is the customer relationship, so I think it's worth a shot. Beats waiting 14 days. Good luck!!

Was thinking the same thing, call after it arrives. If they send me a new one I'll be pleased. So will my wife. After 3 nice draws from the FF she's bummed we had to send it back. Liked the cool tasty vapor versus hot dry smoke in the throat. And has a much nicer mellow feeling buzz.....

If you are that certain it will be replaced, as I was once, see if you can have them send the replacement immediately now that it's on its way. They did that for me once, though I had to pay the shipping to them myself that time.

Shit Snacks,
One of the 99%ers checking in ... I've owned my FF for nearly 2 yrs with no problems ( other than battery ) and my wife's will be 1yo in Jan.
We also own a Pax2 that gets daily use.
Whats your thoughts on the pax2? Im considering buying one but not sure about dropping nearly $300 on one

It's a very good stealth vape, provided you understand it's a conduction vape and operates differently than the FF (by miles) and also delivers a different kind of vapor than the FF. The FF will deliver tasty hits on-demand via convection. The P2 will cook your weed in an oven, via conduction, and thus will potentially use more material per hit than the FF. It also won't come close to matching the FF flavor.

But it works great and is made extremely well. It's just apples vs oranges to the FF. This isn't the best thread to have this conversation, however....you should peruse the Pax2 thread for more detailed info.

Hey guys, sorry to interrupt your conversation. But I wasn't quite sure where to post my question relating to the Firefly.

So I'll be more than likely purchasing the Firefly as my first portable, but honestly (this is silly) I'm torn between the three colors. They do all look good, but more importantly -- will the red and/or silver one suffer from showing marks? When it comes to smoking, vaping, dabbing, etc... little gooey, sticky, and black marks always manage to get themselves on the exterior of my pieces.

Are the Firefly colors highly prone to this? If I'm paying nearly 300 dollars for a device, then I want it to look damn stylish and STAY that way.

Additionally, if you feel like just explaining what your personal favorite device color is and why then that is also useful to me. I'm really terrible at making big decisions lol, especially when it comes to something I'll see and use every day.

RobDaBomb,
So is the only way to use less material is by using a top screen? Tried to load a normal load for me ( in flowermate) and pack it down, but it just ended up flying everywhere. Bowl packed loosely to the top works, but not so many hits, and too much flower. Gets me nice and good though. Definitely more heady.

The lids don't acquire scratches super easily. If you drop one face down, or mar it directly with something metal, it'll show a scratch. In day to day use, I have zero scratches on my FFs. I like all three colors pretty equally. I'd guess the red shows scratches most visibly...maybe the silver the least.

That is one way to keep the load down. Some folks just use a small amount, let it fly around, and it works fine for them. Me, I don't get great results unless I pack a full bowl. I used at least .15 grams per bowl, sometimes more.

Awesome thanks for the information mitch. Conveniently I went to my LHS yesterday and, much to my surprise, not only did they have Firefly's - but they only cost $224 new! The downside was that the only available color is the grey/silver one... well at least that was the downside until I read your message! Deep down I was sort of leaning towards the silver or red one anyway, but with my track record the thing will be scratched and blackened from 'dab hands' before I know it. Hearing that the silver one may be the best for scratches is definitely a plus.

Looks like I know what Christmas present I'm getting for myself now :D. Thanks again, happy holidays!

hi , does anyone know a way to clean the combustion smell out of my firefly lid seal? a way that will leave it healthy to use and wont wreck the seal or lid? Im not sure, what the seal is made from, possibly silicone.

lingcod,

My Mind Is Free
Probably some hot water and elbow grease would do it tbh. A little isopropyl rubbed quickly off and rinsed clean would also likely do no harm to the silicone.

Those would be the two easiest solutions.

I tried ISO, and I tried hot water and dish soap, smell is still there.

ISO is your best bet. If you experienced true combustion it may take a couple cleanings. Be careful not to oversoak the seal....just wipe it gently. If you still have a smoky taste, just vape a couple bowls through it....it'll dim the bad taste eventually. As long as you don't combust again!

Try a light paste of baking soda. It's great for getting smells out of all types of plastics and the like.

thanks for the replies. I tried the ISO a few times already , and Ive used it after more then a few times. Ill try the baking soda paiste, thanks again for your help and Ill let you know how it works out.

Modnote: Back to back posts merged.

the paste worked somewhat, maybe got rid of half the smell. I applied it twice, then followed up with ISO. might try the store bought stuff thats ok to use on plastic. think its called purple power, they make two different versions, and like I said, one of them is safe for plastic, so just hope itt works .

Personally, I would NOT ever recommend using Purple Power Degreaser on anything you'd be consuming off of. Regardless if it's meant for plastic, silicone, or whatever. I used to work with that stuff and just being near it would make your eyes burn from the feel of airborne chemicals. If it touched your skin... dear god, I still remember the horrors! Plus, it wasn't something that you could just wash off easily. I remember the smell and feel of its residue lasting on things for a while after they were washed in it.

You can try what you want, but for your own sake I really really suggest staying away from degreaser - or any other industrial cleaners for the matter. Inhaling high temperature air through something coated in residual degreaser just doesn't sound like it's worth the risk at all. As @mitchgo61 suggested, I think the best bet is to just vape a few bowls in there - eventually it will start to mask the combustion smell/taste.

Otherwise just keep trying your baking soda and ISO trick repeatedly. It will get better over time.
