Discontinued Zion vaporizer

It might short momentarily, until it was dry enough to not be shorted, which by the way doesn't bother the electronics. We've shorted this thing every way to Sunday and she keeps on ticking. Electronics are bulletproof, and design layout wise I bet you could run liquid through the heater portion as long as you cared to so long as you let it dry out again before using.

With the preorder option, do batteries and the charger come with it or do I need to purchase it separately?

I assume separately. Ordered just the unit. I'll try to find some good batteries to use. Can't wait!

In fact some water has been accidentally blown back into Courtney, which emitted a loud steamy hiss of complaint.
So yeah...she swallows.
What, too soon?

Ah ha ha ha. Good one. So you are saying that a little water incursion would not be a concern. That is pretty impressive, and good news. Not because I expect to get it wet, but just as an indicator of bulletproofness.

Someone mentioned AAs above. The Zion use 18650s, which are significantly larger than AAs. They are standard, tho, not proprietary.

So I spent another night testing out Ellie and getting too high, for science. There is no doubting her effectiveness, or cooperation in my quest for easy and efficient buzzativity. Been moving the screen around to size loads, and I find if I want I can load just one good hit if that is what I want to do, while usually I am loading 3 or 4 worth and just taking them one at a time. I've used the longer stem and find it does cool a little more, but not a HUGE difference as it is only an inch longer. I can see how a longer stem would cool even more. Tho, no hits so far have been so harsh as to REQUIRE water cooling, I still intend to do it, because.

I have not combusted, tho at full power I HAVE singed loads a little, mostly trying to be efficient. Obviously the taste near the end of this kind of behavior is not very good, but that is expected. The flavor at low temps is WONDERFUL. This is my best vape for flavor by far. While I can get good flavor with my lotus, Ellie is MUCH better with temp stability than a torch based vape, even when good at it.

The interior diameter of the male2males I have (dhgate extras) are slightly too large to hold the one screen I have so far, so water testing will suffer unless I figure something out before getting new screens. I didn't get at first (Doh) why the dome "rimmed" screens would work well, but I get it now and will order some today. I thought the rim would need to be inside the joint.

I'll be back to testing tonight. I'll try to answer any question if any are posed. I am enjoying my new friend Ellie...

Great little write up cybr, just making me more and more antsy for mine haha

Couple questions re temps: when you singe, and when you do a one hitter bowl, where are you on the temp dial?

I was all the way up. I'm thinking I would have to be at least nearly all the way up to singe it, but I'll try tonight and see if I can do it earlier.

Forgot the bowl part. I haven't tried that a lot yet, cause I usually am gonna want more soon so more in the bowl is fine, but it didn't seem to matter where I was on the dial, it would work like a more filled bowl. More experience necessary.

Just to be clear, it really isn't a temp dial. It is a power indicator, indicating how much power is applied. That doesn't necessarily relate to a particular temp as that will depend on other factors as well.
So the dial is relative power applied. And it was all the way up when I singed. And I am fairly certain there will be times when I want that extra power.
That's what I'm using. Especially for testing phase it is nice to have numbers over lights.

~snip~

Exactly what I'm saying.

No concern at all, though to err on the side of caution I wouldn't recommend the shoulder shrug/keep on truckin' method that I employed, rather, it would be much better to wait and make sure everything was dry before continuing.

@little maggie : I made a post about batteries somewhere in the last 5 pages. You need at leat 20A continuous discharge to be on the safe side, flat top (no button), either protected Li-Ion or IMR. For now I recommend the VapPower 2500 mAh IMR's as I'm pretty sure they are very good for this application.

Just to be clear, it really isn't a temp dial. It is a power indicator, indicating how much power is applied. That doesn't necessarily relate to a particular temp as that will depend on other factors as well.

Exactly. We tried to express it several times already but this vaporizer is not temperature regulated. It's like a log vape and the "power button" would be akin to a variable voltage power supply.

The temperature regulation is done entirely by the user, and surprisingly it's possible to be relatively 'accurate' just by using a proper timing and judging the vapor temperature hitting your throat.

Lately I've been using Ashton at over 75% power right from the start and for the entire session. It's a great experience in many ways but at the same time (and as expected) it's harder to manage (although maybe with some practice...)

At low power, you need more preheating and you need to take longer hits (cons) but the temperature rise is slow enough to be able to maintain the bowl/load temperature in a narrow range, meaning you can extract selectively and it's closer to a temperature regulated vape (pros)

At high power Ashton is uber fast, it needs very little preheating if any and you get your first vapor hit way faster than in the previous paka-test result I posted (I didn't count but with fully charged batteries it's not that far from an "instant convection hit") but the side effect is that you get a quickly fluctuating temperature, and you end up extracting a larger "band".

I don't know if this was clear or not... A compromise would be to set the power very high to get your first hit, then progressively reduce to your sweet spot. I think this is what @MrPeanut is doing with great success.

A good trick I came up with is to use "kissy lips" on the end of the stem to perform the inhale. My lips are much more sensitive to temperature than my throat and lungs seem to be and this trick lets me know right away when the draw stream is too hot to be healthy.

Beware of "lipstick" though, the phenomenon where the stem sticks to your lip as you pull away, which is often immediately followed by "stemshatter", the phenomenon where the stem hits the hard floor and breaks into a million pieces.

Tilt on and tilt off like you're drinking a bottle of beer and you'll never have an issue.

I think this vape is going to be a great example of "roll your own". There are many ways to get to the same (right) place. That may also make it a little hard to tell folks how exactly to hit it.

Easy to get the job done, more difficult to describe exactly how. No matter how you do it its gonna work.

Edit: Jeeze, I'm not sounding like a fanboy, am I?

Ah yes my mistake, shouldn't have called it a temp dial. I like power dial, yeah its like the LSV, I know what to expect. Lot of variability with this design, a big part of the fun, adds more dimensions than say a Firefly that has no power dial at all.

Also regarding lower-power (temp) hits, @KeroZen you don't have the mica right? So your experience with using lower temps isn't quite the same as @cybrguy and @MrPeanut correct? Bc isn't a big aspect of the mica's inclusion for better low power performance?

The initial high power hit and then lowering should be a fun method as well, so many ways to play, I am certain I will end up out my mind during testing as well... How can one resist?

So as you may remember back in the thread @MrPeanut discovered the Zion is also an e-cig too. So I stuffed a wad of coffee filter paper from the hotel in a clean stem and added a couple drops of e-juice. I then proceeded to walked through security at the music festival blowing clouds. With the popularity of mod building it's not uncommon to see big e-cig mods like the Zion. So I guess you could say Hiding in plain sight... although I did a few "hey what's that thing" Lol

The Zion being a convection vaporizer doesn't have the nichrome wire cooking the juice like a traditional vaporizer. This prevents the user from getting the brown contamination that occurs with a conventional e-cig. Just another way the Zipn is both revolutionary and versatile. Although @pakalolo was not happy with me when he initially tasted root beer in Jessica :)

So true, although it was mostly that sweet PG/VG taste. That turned out to be a good thing eventually because it demonstrated that such a contaminating flavour isn't permanent. It was fading fast when I did my first combustion test and that wiped it out completely (not that I recommend that method of eradicating unwanted flavours). The burnt taste was easy to get rid of too.

good to know. Certainly increases the likelihood that I would try flavor...

I think RBT mentioned that he might include some flavor in the future...

Later: So, serendipitously (I assume), one of the magnets that holds the cap is well placed to hold a stir stick while Ellie is open and being used. :)
