I have a dugout with the pivot-type cover, but the slider would work best on the MFLB. Just uses a routed slot made with a Dremel tool. Whatever we use, whether it is screw-in, slider, compression, it would be best if it remains attached to the main body. Don't want little parts that have to be kept track of.

Is this the kind of topic that they don't want clogging up the thread and should go to email or PM until the results can be posted, or is it appropriate to keep it as a public discussion that people will want to contribute to? I'm not very informed about that kind of thing. I don't see any way to PM on this board though.

Finally made an account just to post! I've been lurking since last July, read the first 50 pages or so and the most recent 50. And I've used the Launch Box almost every day since then (had to buy a replacement in October), so I would consider myself a pretty experienced user. Anyways...

These mods are awesome, nealcassidy! The only "mod" I've made is to draw on the bottom a little with sharpies. I tried to highlight the "Magic-Flight" words with a silver sharpie, then tried to cover the URL with a black sharpie and boxed the quote to make it less obvious that I was just trying to hide the URL. It's not that I don't want to advertise such an awesome product (I've gotten three people to actually buy their own, another friend got a DBV, and lots more have said they want to get a LB but have yet to), but I think the URL is a dead giveaway of an otherwise mysterious item. I don't have my box with me this week, but I'll post a picture of this when I get a chance.

@willieR: if you want to both keep the box closed and hold a brush with it, why not keep the brush held to the bottom with a rubber band? I've never had the problem of a rubber band slipping off, but I agree it can be annoying to keep track of. An easy solution would be to just buy a 50-pack, then you don't need to worry if you lose one. Then you don't have to worry about damaging your box by drilling into it, or how that will affect the warranty.

I love how smooth the bottom of the box is, and I do think a rubber band can take away from that. I wish Magic-Flight would add that brass nub you've modded on, nealcassidy. I also wish the metal clip in the back didn't protrude off the top so much. Aside from the screen, it's the only piece of the box I've ever managed to damage. Mine bent to the left a little after I dropped my first box with the lid slightly open.

I wish Magic Flight would use a different mechanism to hold the lid in place. Here is a picture and video of a pair of nail clippers that use a part that I think would work better:

I gave a review a while ago and wanted to give an update since I purchased the power adapter with the 12V car adapter a few months back.

As before, I still absolutely love the Magic Flight Launch Box; as do all my friends that have tried it. I was the first in my group to buy one after trying a friends Iolite. Since then, I know at least 8 people that have tried mine have bought one and love it as well.

The power adapter makes this thing kick even more ass than it already did. I can't get over the size of the hits you can get with the power adapter. I've encouraged my friends to get this as well. I know at least a couple of them have since placed orders. I honestly don't think I've used a battery once since I

Now for the area's that could be improved from a consumers stand-point. I am constantly having to tighten the threaded caps on both sides of the "wired battery" (usually needs tightening daily or more often). These loosen very easily and seem to impact how much power hits the MFLB. If it gets unthreaded by 1/2 turn or more, the hit-size seems to greatly diminish.

Is there a way a tiny screw could be fitted to go through the false-battery housing and lock into the threaded caps on either end?

Regarding the 12V car adapter, I didn't figure I was going to need it, but I ordered it anyways just in case. Last week I started using the 12V car adapter and it worked like a charm, until yesterday when it broke/stopped working. I've already determined the problem. On the positive "nipple" end, the metal tab that the wire gets soldered to has completely broken off. It seems that the sheathing on the wire is quite rigid and doesn't allow for any give when the nipple gets pushed in upon inserting into a 12V plug. I used my car adapter less than a half-dozen times before it broke. A picture of the broken piece is below.

I'm not sure if this is covered under warranty or not. It's a great concept, but still needs a couple minor tweaks for longevity.

I'd love to look at boring a hole for an on-board brush storage. Some type of tool to move the material around in the trench and the sides. I don't carry that cool little brush with me and a finger doesn't work well

That's not a bad idea at all. My one complaint about the LB is that I'm always getting nug stuck in those cervices and I rarely have the brush with me. I usually end up having to use a crumpled up receipt to get the goods out.

Same here. I think a small compartment for the brush or cleaning tool would be awesome. It's important to keep that area clean so the MFLB performs at it's best.

The simplest way I can think of for Magic-Flight to do something like this would be to have a groove right under the cover retaining clip. It would have to be deep enough that the retaining clip could snap into place and hold the cover shut, but not so deep as to make it difficult to open the cover. I'm not sure if that balance is possible.

These mods are fine for an individual LB but I think to add a production catch might increase the price past the value added for most buyers.

so I think I need to clean my box... there's a glimmering layer of darkened oil on the base of the box... and after a trench, it starts to REALLY heat the bottom of the box... I've tried kind of pushing a paperclip/toothpick around the base... I get little scrapes of darkened goo here and there, but it isn't very efficient.

I see a lot of inhalation tips and tricks with this little wooden wonder... was wondering if anyone had any tips for cleanliness and possible ways of reclaiming all this oil...

Are you sure the resin at the bottom of the box heats up? I'm having trouble understanding how that happens.

The previous wording didn't make it quite as clear as I'd like that the area under the screen should be left alone, so I've just changed it. The entry is based on advice directly from magicflight and posted elsewhere in this thread.

How about a groove, on the top, opposite the air intake groove. The tool would simply be held in place in its shallow groove, by the clear lid.

Not if the "groove" does not extend all the way to the bowl. It would require a short brush.
(where the logo is on the top of the box)

Edited to add - If this groove was wide enough, you could stash the short stem in there as well (although i prefer to hit the box "native")

Just picked me up a MFLB and I like it! Only question is, I noticed that too slow a draw will char you up........How do you avoid the spinning of the medicine? Is spinning ok or is their a way to combat it? Long thread. Thx

Just got my power adapter, been extremely excited ever since I got the ship notice on Monday.

First impressions... WOW. I took two giant hits at full power and I only know I did because of how high I am! My trench is still green! I love how you can vary power while vaping too. I'd type more, but this itself was a challenge in my current state.

Sad that the car adapter was out of stock, definitely want to get one in the future!

Re mods:

- 1; About 4 months ago, we did experiment a bit with a cover locking pin, similar to what is described above. It is our plan to eventually add these to all built units. The main reasons it has not already occurred is that it requires some very precise tooling setup to be maintained on our end, and it does add noticeably to the overall build time for each unit. Given our current schedule of effort, we simply have not been able to work it in as yet. It is still very much our aim to do so, but it will probably be two months at least before this occurs.

- 2; In regards to having a slot for the brush, we have been unable to find a good place for it. Careful examination of the wood cutting shows that there really is just not enough room left for the additional hole and/or slot. Nearly every bit of of the wood is shaped or cut so that any brush would need to be very short and very small to fit inside the box. Therefore, we do not recommend attempting mods like this as it is likely that you will drill or cut through into someplace not intended. An alternate and much simpler approach would be take advantage of the existing hollow tube brush shape and to push the back end of it onto the cover lock pin. This effectively attaches the brush to the box. While this will keep those parts together, it is not recommended that it be placed in a pocket this way, unless the brush is cut shorter, as it might bend/loosen the cover pin.

Agreed. This and a couple of other similar issues will be fixed as we update and improve our build process going forward into production. Thank you for remembering to bring this to our attention. It is important that we get feedback from people testing the Beta version so that issues like this can get fixed.

This also is good to know. There should have been a wiring strain relief for that connection -- not sure why there is not (it will get checked into). We will warranty this part. If you have not already repaired it, you may send it back to us and we will get it fixed and/or replaced (contact us via email).

Is there a recommended way to clean the wood on the outside of the box? I have a couple of resin stains near the opening for the stem. Wiped with a little iso and rag but it didn't work. Didn't want to use to much iso on the wood.

What are you guys doing to keep the outside of the box looking nice? Has anyone tried the Buzz-Butter that comes with the PD diffuser? And is it recommended?

I got MFLB a month ago, and today while cleaning the screen (there's brown gunk on it), I used a small pen. I ended up causing the screen on the edge to bend. MFLB still works but I'm worried it might deterioritate.

Could I Get a replacement screen for MFLB? Or is stupid mistake not covered under MFLB warranty? IF not, how much will it cost. IF screen is not replaceable, do I have to pay for MFLB again???

Also when I recharge my batteries, they get extremely hot, and is this normal? they cool down when they are completely charged. One of my batteries seems quite faulty because it has far shorter span than the other one.

I'm pretty sure that issue is covered under warranty, and I believe its not a fix so much as a replacement. So no, you shouldn't have to pay for a new box. Email Magic Flight, and include your serial number, and a picture of the box (damaged screen) if possible.

Yes they will.

As for the batteries getting hot, yes,it seems to be the norm, with the exception being ones definition of "hot" so id say you shouldn't worry.

As for the lack of effect, vaping is different than smoking, and can be a difficult switch for some, i would highly recommend not giving up quite yet...take advantage of the warranty, and maybe even order the power adapter...the PA seems to raise everyones opinion of the box, and even make people see it as a whole 'nother Vape.

send them an email stating what happened with a picture of your box and they will send you a replacement. just be warned that they probably will ask you to mail back the broken box to maintain your lifetime warranty as they did with mine.

It's also okay to wipe down the outside of the Box with a soft cloth and a gentle cleaner (perhaps a drop of dishwashing liquid) but remember how you use it. If you do use a soap make sure you don't get it inside the heating chamber, and of course don't leave residue on the areas that you put in your mouth.

that seems to be all they mention there about cleaning the exterior...I believe that there is something made for treating wood, that you rub in...not sure though...I'll post back if i find anything else pertinent.
