The VaporGenie needs some getting used to, you can't just light and hit it, 'cause if you overheat the herb it burns, equalling nasty coughs. Once you get it down, though, you can get ripped on a fraction of the dope you'd normally only smoke to take the edge off things.

Here's my personal technique:

1. Use a small flame and ever so lightly drag on the Genie, just enough to get the flame drooping into the hole.
2. Place the tip of your tongue on your palate while doing this, as this allows you to gauge the temperature with the botom of your tongue, rather than the back of your throat.
3. When you feel warm vapor trinkling through wait a second or so, then cut the flame and hit that pipe hard as if you're letting rip on a bong. Hold that vopor in.
4. Exhale big fluffy clouds of vapor.

You need to get a feel for it, I guess.

I wouldn't clean your vaporgenie with boiling water if i was you, mine now looks like this.

Though cleaning with water is in the user guide so its covered by the warranty.

I know you didn't come up with it because it had been mentioned before. I was just saying that because I dididn't know who originally did. That sucks about your Genie though. Good thing it's covered.

LOL. Wow. That looks awful. You're supposed to carefully pour boiling water just into the heating element. You're not supposed to dunk the whole pipe in boiling water. :o
From the VG Website
"Soot can be removed pretty easily. The best method for removing soot is to put the filter unit on a vacuum cleaner intake. The vacuum cleaner will draw air through the filter, just like normal inhalation does. While air is being sucked into the filter, direct a lighter flame at the filter, so that the filter is heated red hot (both torch and candle flame lighters will work). Only a small portion of the ceramic will be heated red hot, and this portion can be moved around to all the areas that have soot. Do not touch the flame to the ceramic (that will deposit soot). This process is amazing to watch: the soot just disappears like it was never there. It burns away completely and cleanly, leaving no residue.

We no longer recommend the water cleaning method because this damages the wood (causing it to crack) and because it leaves a residue on the ceramic. Please only use the vacuum cleaner method to remove soot."

I used the Water Method a few times, but it left a little bit of residue on on VG. Nothing to major though. I will only recommend the Vacuum Cleaner Method because it works really well. I was able to get most of the soot off my filter. If I had a Jet Flame lighter, I could probably get all of the soot off.

Thanks for the update, Blaze. I haven't been to the VG site in awhile.

well after much research and contemplating i decided to pick up a vg locally the other day. i ended up choosing this over the vaporstar with a bong for the portability and how easy it'd be to hide. i must say i already prefer this over my normal bowl. i've also used it with a two good friends who both are long time smokers and both now want to switch to vapor after using my vg.

thanks for the surplus amount of info you guys have on this forum :) :peace:

I had been wanting to switch to vaporizing for ages, so a few weeks ago I took the plunge and bought myself a VG. The combination of portability and affordability is what clinched it for me.

I've used conventional vaporizers such as the SSV and in my opinion, you can vaporize just about as well with a VG once you get the hang of it. After a few days, I was hitting my pipe like a champ and I proudly count myself among many happy Vapor Genie owners.

I do have one question. Has anyone tried smoking the gunky stuff that collects under the screen? I've noticed some build up and I was wondering if it had any value or if i should just throw it away (the residue, not the screen). I apologize if this has already been asked.

EDIT:
I've decided to name my pipe Gumby due to its particular color. I think the name suits it quite well since it often sends my mind to some pretty strange places.

Yes, that gunky stuff under the screen is resin from vaping, very much worth smoking once in a while IMO, light it like hash.

I'm a new Vaper, bought my first vaporizer which happens to be the Vaporgenie and I think it kicks ass. I also just ordered a Vapor Tower, can't wait. I've also noticed that smoking combustion style now tastes AWFUL! It's so weird, the same stuff that I've been smoking for a month tasted great before, now tastes like...I don't know what...it's fuckin' weird. I guess there's no going back now. That's fine with me.

Congrats, justchillin. I think you are starting out great. The Extreme was my first vape, followed by the VG. It's a great combo that can keep you from the need to spend more on vaporizers, if you can control yourself!

my genie was my first vape... from there I went apeshit and got myself quite a collection of vapes. But I still love sitting back with my Genie every once in a while and hit it. It is more cathartic than my other vapes (less of a ritual involved as well)... i've noticed that it is almost impossible for me to accidently combust my VG now that I know its sweet spot... i still combust my Vaporstar on occasion

<=-- Like DevoTheStrange, I also went "apeshit" on vapes.

I broke down and bought a VG and my top 5 list of reasons are below. It even has that cool sticker under it. Note: None of my reasons have to w/butane (a nasty, dirty, smelly but plentiful gas). However, w/cheap lighters and in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome LA - who knows what I'll need?

Top 5 reasons Duh bought a Vapor Genie:

5. Just in case all my other vapes break or run out of juice.
4. EMP. Go see that one Bond movie. ;)
3. It doesn't seem to have any lead paint inside! :o
2. It cost me $45 and the guy tried to pass off another Vapor Buddy before I realized what happened (again).
1. That cool name. :D

It's been said before, and I know it will be said again, but damn! The Vapor Genie is "perfection in its simplicity."

I started vaping about 4 years ago with an Aromazap. Loved it. Still do. With the car-lighter-adapter it travels well. Made the mistake of purchasing a Vapir a year later. Hated it. Still do as it collects dust and reminds me not to credit marketing hype. Six months ago purchased an Herbalaire and a Vapor Genie. The Herbalaire sits on a shelf and waits for weekends and friends to come over who have yet to be born again and saved by vapor. I love it. Still do. The Vapor Genie..goes everywhere with me--along with a handful of lighters--and I am a big enough fan to join a website like this and leave a posting.

Personal note: I'm nearing 60 years of age and have been a stoner since I was 15--you do the math. As an old man with a bunch of letters after his name and a penchant for giving unwanted advice to young people, let me say "vape, but only just enough". The difference between being "high" (and involved with your life) and being "stoned" (antithesis of high) can be just one hit. There's little to be gained from excessiveness--except maybe on weekends that involve beautiful women.

Hanging in hammock a world away.

WOW.....i'm happy to have a vapor veteran like you on this board Hammock Guru.....Welcome and thanks for your wise advice!
Young people could think about vapor as an harmless thing only because there is no combustion....wrong! Vapor is powerful...deal with it with full respect and all excesses are a waste of vital power!

Vapor to the world ;)

The Genie kicks ass. I broke it out last night for the first time in a while...needed something that would fire up quick and thick. I still get some of my thickest hits from this unit and it gets me up easily.

Hammock...it's 45. I don't think I could do that math after 45 years of herb either!

my Genie was my savior last night... decided to go out on the town... Brought my Iolite with me. Went too vape some herb and realized I had forgotten too fill it (first time) I was seriously bummed out. I thought I had no other vape with me, so I was ready too concede defeat. So I went too stash my Iolite in my car... and lo n' behold there was my VG sitting in my stash stop with a lighter.... I was so stoked. I hadn't even realized I had left it there... it turned a frown into an outright goofy smile

yeah a friend of mine got one of those vapor buddy's for like almost 80, which is totally not worth it, but he refused too get rid of it.. so I made him manually remove the paint because of the lead issues.
I've actually been able too look at the filter closely in the buddy, it is no where near as efficient as the Genie, and I noticed my friends Buddy constantly gets soot in the filter... shops all over town carry the buddy, only one has the Genie... unfortunately the Buddy is really popular here... for some odd reason people don't like the genies because they are made of wood... at least I was able too get my friend too strip the paint off his so he isnt putting his lips on nice bright shiny ass red lead filled paint

Thanks for the warm welcome!

It's Saturday morning in these parts, and I need to beat back the jungle a bit before I can fall into my hammock--but not before I indulge a bit; caffeine and cannabis. I've made myself a "micro-bag" for my Herbalaire; gives me one good lungfull and that's usually enough for a couple of hours of morning chores. More than that and I'm dangerous with powertools and other bladed instruments.

Hammock on!

how many rips does evryone take from their genie?
I usually pack just enough for 1 fat dense cloud, I mean thick!
This way you get to really taste your bud with each hit.
