The Herbalizer

Has anyone else noticed that Herbies whip is sticky
This has been discussed in other forums and in other threads right here.
Yes.. the hose can get sticky at the end closest to the heat.
I will explain..
It is a phenomena known well to BHO fans (dabbers) that use silicone.
Medical grade silicone allows some bleed-through of the condensates from THC.
The Tygon type hoses, and the SSV/DBV hoses do not allow this for they have a sealed finish.
This slight seepage is present because of the EXTREME nature of the extraction, which leaves golden driplets of oil in your hose at the connecter end. It takes a pretty efficient flow/process to create these drops, which in the Herbalizer occur pretty fast.
This is aided, by the fact that our hoses aim upward from the unit... so the drips stay within the first 1/4 of the hose, due to gravity, and the heat of Herbies airflow, suspend these drips up an inch or more... and they also are kept very "fresh" by the heat (we are all constantly using our Herbalizers .. so the hoses are not getting much rest.)
A temporary fix if the feel is distracting, is to take a clean cloth/washcloth... pour some 91% Iso on it...
wrap it around the hose, and gold firmly, as you wipe the hose of once...
then wipe it dry, and it will be OK feeling for the next couple of sessions.
The stickiness will come back however.
OK...
enough talk. pass me that whip.. see ya guys. I have Herbalizing to do.

vito, do you think the iso will over time dry out the whip?

and a general question to you all. during a session do you ever need to shape or stir the herbs in the bowl? if not, are the edges the same colour as the center of the bowl when you are done?

I haven't noticed the stickiness, but I have noticed that the hose is a major dust magnet. I just keep a clean dry washcloth handy, and give it a wipe now & then.

@weedemon, I don't stir, and have noticed that the pucks kind of resemble the sublimator pucks where they are dark brown inside with a lighter, golden colored crust.

Yes, I have noticed the hose is a major dust magnet...more of a bother to me when I have a guest over, as I don't want to be handing over a hairy whip...wait that didn't sound right...anywho, you get what I mean. But as already mentioned, that is the nature of the materials.

I might have missed it someplace, but has anyone else noticed if you hold down the vapor button and the + button at the same time for a few seconds, the screen turns off? Is this another power switch? Don't see it mentioned in the manual...unless I am blind.

The two buttons (aromatherapy and vaportherapy) both act as an on/off switch if held for 2 seconds. This allows me to run my Herbie topless with super low profile..

I am assuming it just works for the heater? Because I was able to turn the fan on still, so it's not cutting power off completely.

Ah, you are right. Behaves differently when you hold both buttons down. I remember getting the fan to turn on by itself (with no heat) but forgot that was how I did it.

If the general whip "dust magnet" thing troubles you... wipe it with a wet washcloth... then when it is dry.. dust it with baby powder, and wipe it off with a cloth again.. and it will feel less "grainy"

No, weedemon, I don't think so. The time it would take to dry out would be well past the longevity of the hose... AND.. you have that condensate well within the tube, keeping it unable to dry out.

I do not stir my load on high temp fast sessions....
but when I do a long slow 380 session, I do pick up the entire closed chamber and give it a good shake once in a while.. I do find a new burst of flavor when I do so.
Regardless the abv is always consistent in color.

I challenge anyone using Herbie correctly to tell me they get as many hits off other vapes as they do with the Herbalizer....

The Gauntlet has been thrown down, and I, the noob stand with you sir.

I don't know shit about vaping, but I have a condition that requires me to explore the "overbaked" and psychedelic side of herb every day. Even in my short experience I dare stand by mvapes assertion.

This thing is a Planetary Assault System.

the ob

all good in the hood.
I also had a few more enlightening herbified moments last evening and figured out how to get the door to close appropriately. First, I didn't realize that the hide away compartment actually locks into the lid. Second, the whip catches the lid every time.

Has anyone else noticed that Herbies whip is sticky like Mickey Thompson Racing Slicks? I have, and as the temperature of the silicone raises it get's even stickier, hence when closing the lid your actually catching the whip (:whip:). So, we finish our session - some of us those sessions could be pretty intense () causing the whip to be at it's stickiest!

If I hang the whip like I do others on my vape station the lid closes much nicer than it was. Still wish it snapped closed but that's me just being a picky fucker.

On another note, you know what I find amazing? I've barely used concentrates for the last couple days, even with twice or sometimes three times the medicinal content of a bouquet of fresh flowers being able to vape the entire session raising your temperature through the gambit from enlightening to the intense sector, I get more medication than I've seen in a long time.

Someone mentioned having noticed that although they seemed medicated the ABV doesn't always come out brown. I have a theory...

It's all about precise temperature control in device with the technology to accurately deliver readings as well. Here's what I mean, although I absolutely love the EVO we all understand that units, because of that wide open air-path the VXL crew is famous for has also deemed that the cloud/evo's temperature could actually variate based on it's environment. With that being said, the EVO is a heavy hitter - one of the if not the best in its class.

Imagine all the other units out there below that level, I can only assume that if some units run cold than some units run hot. Probably close to the combustion point that Herbie would never allow to happen. So not only are you extracting meds like a mother fucker with herbie, which the feeling that it delivers is off the charts. I find it baffling how you actually have a fucking computer isolated from the heat and programmed to make sure your temp stays where you set it, including not getting hotter resulting in less visible vapor at points where on other devices you get clouds but still getting high as fuck, and greener ABV that may be light in color but I promise, there ain't shit left in there!

I challenge anyone using Herbie correctly to tell me they get as many hits off other vapes as they do with the Herbalizer....
I mentioned the sticky whip in my review :)

anyone have a clever way to clean the sticky bags? or Do I just have to use a new one?

I use the larger SSV diameter tubing and place it over the connection to the bowl:

:)

Have you noticed that the colored tubing doesn't stand up to the heat as well as the clear stuff?

It doesn't seem to matter with the ssv because it's so far away from the heat source, but with herbie the equation changes and I noticed the colored (I tried purple) tubing stretched out and deformed.

I'm not positive, but I think the clear is silicone and the colored ssv tubing may be more of a polyvinyl?

The clear was not immune... it stretched out identically to colored... I have used both.
That makes it easy to pop on and off between uses.

I don't get much bending in my hose. I have the hose cut to 13 inches with the GonG adapter. At that length it tends to form a straight connection to from the bowl to what ever pice I am using with out kinking or folding. I do notice if I let the whip rest on the table it will fold/collapse some.

For me the colored tubing stayed a bit stretched out on the end that was attached.

Did you notice if the clear tubing recovered any better?

Almost there...
What i have been doing is removing the bowl right at the end of an inhalation and then inhaling a bit more to cool the bowl down. Once i exhale i blow down the tube gently, with the bowl OFF the Herbie.
You may see a fine dust get blown out the bottom of the bowl.
Then i can continue to extract a bit more from the bowl.
Seems to stir the meds a bit this way.

@Vitolo Do you know the best way to get the oil droplets out of the whip?
My whip is very gummy and golden inside!

I use a bamboo tool from the Vapir line of products.
Unknown-3.png

It is fairly long, and reaches most of the droplets. I use a long stereo cleaner Q-tip back to gather the rest.. I wash with Iso... and while I do not save the liquid, the wash can also be evaporated and reclaimed

I found 1 easter egg, but I ain't telling. :)
If you "ain't telling", then how do you know it is actually an Easter egg?

You could also try removing bowl, and shaking it well in hand and continuing your vape session. This would serve to avoid the buildup of that slight moisture from your breath, that can combine with oils in the hose to make a more rapid and gummier residue buildup.
I make the same suggestion to those that blow into the SSV wand to empty the wand.
It can keep things fresh longer.
(of course a little breath does not harm anything.. and we each have our system. I hope I did not sound "negative there!)

No worriesd @Vitolo !!
As you say we each have our system, mine just seems to change with every session...
Could be the Herbie's efficiency!

I also shake the bowl or gently tap it on a towel to shake up the herb inside the bowl.
Sometimes i open the bowl to see what is going on and then i will give it a stir.
I will try some of those bamboo Vapir sticks, i think i have some lying around that came with my NO2.

Cleaning time will be this weekend for the whip, connector and the bowl.
Still having a blast with The Clam!

Did anyone notice that the bag filling up takes EXACTLY the same amount of time as the fan remains blowing?... NICE!
Next....
A VERY long post
About hoses...
I hope you all do not mind.. these are my cumulative hose findings from during the initial testing of the unit.
Condensate residue is forced by heat away from the bowl... into the tubing...
and is easily retrieved by a tool or qtip (I used a qtip)
The rest of the tube will stay dry and clean.
The residue never tried to gather closer to the "plug in juncture, due to heat.
I have been able to using HOT temps, and Fan action ... combined with inhalation and tube manipulation to gather these into one large drip.
Note.. the entire tube is clean and dry, as is the path the oils ran from closest to the connector!
DSC02732.jpg

DSC02733.jpg

Left alone this gets firm and tacky and is easily "plucked" from the tube with a tool.
If left in the tube, it will have the same exact action as BHO or wax does, on the "heat end' of the tube..
and begin to bleed "tackiness" through...
YES... wax and THC resin can permeate silicone!

Condensate manipulated into one drip:
DSC02735.jpg

By the way... the whip getting this residue is a GOOD thing... it is due to the high heat of the metal part of the bowl.
This is the concept behind the sublimator, the Pax, and others... a heater that preheats the bowl that the meds go into.
What this means is that the bowl unlike many vapes will not get gross and too sticky to easily wipe down and brush off.
It also means that one can hop back and forth from wax to herb with impunity.
Wax and concentrate get so completely cooked because the pad does not fill the bowl wall to wall as in the case of the Volcano.
if the pad were wedged in place, wax would "wick" itself all over.
As it stands the concentrates run from the heat which passes all around the pad...
and the walls get hot so wax does not want to jump there...
and the pad floats with pressure from the fan....
the cooking oil is on a floating pad.
Don't believe me?... open the top of bowl, drop the pad in and turn on fan!
the pad will float like a flying saucer, suspended in the heats path!

My advice for what to do with that residue.. is:
Prior to washing tubing out....
go in with a tool like this wooden scoop. (even the wooden "swabs" used for stereo cleaning)
Unknown-3.png

and grab the residue (it's pure!) and vape it on your concentrate pad!
I already have done this a few times and it is supreme!
Those of you testing that don not have access to concentrates... you now do!
The Herbalizer is an extractor supreme, and is leaving us with predictable sublimate!
In a way that part will make me sad to see the "see thru" tubing go... such is life .. we adapt.
Moral of my rant:
Don't let those drips go to waste!
about the whip and residue.
When you vape waxes/oils.. (dab fashion) you learn that anything (a bump in the glass... a ridge where mouthpiece enters tubing) that gets in the path of oil vapor
will allow drops of "condensate" to form .
This is less prevalent with flowers due to reduced levels of constituents present.
The Herbalizer is thoroughly vaporizing the plant material, so that it has a fine structure on a "mist" level.
Any obstruction will cause the "mist" to collide with its barrier (on it's way past it...)
This is where a bit cools and deposits.
We are using a whip that is inserted downward (as opposed to forwards as in case of most whips we are accustomed to.)
The whip by design is soft and NOT stiff.
This makes a bend in the path, so that the mists can collide there and leave behind droplets of condensed vapor... sublimate... resin... honey looking oil that can be gathered, and it is very good.
SO...
I used clean tubing... straightened out (yes.. it made for an awkward vape)...
I held it extended at half so that the vapor that was still in "hot form" had no place to collide... and I collected no residue after a few sessions...
SO I used a piece of rogue tubing for a dozen sessions, with my neck craned downward to test this out..
Photoon2013-08-20at1153.jpg

No residue collected.
I say it does not matter, and I went back to normal comfortable use of the whip.
I like the residue forming, and it is truly easy cleanup... and a reminder that:
"Our bowl shall not remain too gooey.. for the Herbalizer shall extract and force forth it's vapor complete~"

**EDIT:
For fun, I did one last session with the rogue tubing.
First I cleaned it thoroughly. It was like new.
What I did was force a bend in the tubing at the same place our more desirable softer tubing bends...
and I got residue.
DSC02744.jpg

Again, I would not change a thing.. I like the residue.
We now use white tubing.
I like to see through the tubing, to know when it is time to tidy up.
Unseen residues can eventually run back down when people step away leaving the tube inserted..
It can be cumulative until you have a more serious cleanup to perform.
That is my 2¢ on tubing.
We here will do fine .. we know what to watch for, but outsiders may not..
(If it is about clean appearance white silicone yellows at the heat end, and some tackiness can appear here as well)
About the tackiness that forms outside the tubing at the vaporizer end of the tubing.
People think silicone is impervious, but it is not.
THC residues are strange and can enter hot silicone to an extent,
The residues stay still after that.
You can clean the outside of tubing where the stickiness has come through with Iso... and it will work only to show up again in hours.(even with non use)
This is something that I learned to ignore, and the only cure is to cut down the tube an inch at a time to remove that tacky portion.. or just live with it...
and eventually replace the tubing.
7th Floor Tubing (similar to Tygon) does not do this, but it also may not be ideal tubing for this medically sound device.

Interesting note about the tackiness.
My theory:
It seems worse when the tubing is cool.
The reason is that the tube is then .. without heat in contracted state. The oils have exuded a tiny bit, as they seem to stay still.
when you start to vape, the tackiness mysteriously vanishes.
This is because the tube has expanded under the heat, and the material has "re-enveloped" the THC oils.. (silicone does have some permeability)
I do use other tubing from time to time.
When the other is too tacky to the touch.
I am using Vapir NO2 tubing (a foot and a half length).
It is like Tygon, which is similar to SSV tubing.
I do not think that the supple SSV tubing type comes in the smaller diameter, however Tygon tubing does.
I also love to use SSV tubing when playing
Problem is Tygon tubing is stiff until warmed up.. .
Then it gets stiff again when it cools.
The oils do not bead up inside the same... they gather more.
It cleans up easier.
It never allows the stickiness through as do the silicone and more supple materials.
I realize it is impractical because it can not be wrapped around Herbie for travel... but at home it has become my choice.. as
the shinier materials like tygon and NO2 tubing never seem to allow bleed through of resins.. they remain unporous amd impermeable.

Vapir NO2 tubing.
Things to note are:
1- Oil does not bead up like on our silicone
2- the tube does get flexible when warm
3- the oils do not 'bleed through' (this is good)
4- The oil can run more easily in the tubing (this can be bad, as the oil can drip more easily into the bowl)
A supposition is that the SSV whip is also Si but doesnt have the same transmissibility issue (sticky fingers) because it is A) thicker and B) denser (harder).
This could be.
Tygon is stiff, and unsupple.
SSV tube is a special supple blend.
In the end, we will use the whips of our choice.
In the end, the Silicone provided with our Herbalizer is the best choice for general use with this vaporizer.
It is safe, and it fits, and under normal use will last a long time and will not give most users any reason to be displeased.
Those of us that have quirks and specialty desires, will use out 9 inch, or 13 inch pieces of SSV tubing, and some of us will keep our original tubes in "ship-shape".
New tubing will be invented also!
God Bless THE UNIVERSE
Herbalizer rocks, rolls, and sings too.
"I feel Good!" {james Brown;1965}
See you all later

EDIT-
Clarification about tubing:
I meant that the NO2 tubing is the size that holds the Herbalizer clip... but I prefer a short length of SSV tubing slipped over the bowl end, if I am going with an alternate tube besides the original.
I like using the Herbie tube best.
For the high heat sessions that will be fast I enjohy the SSV tube in a shorter length.
The Vapir tube is too stiff for practicality with the Herbalizer
