Discontinued The Persei Vaporizer for herbs and concentrates.

Proper coil length depends on the type of concentrate. The more stable the concentrate the shorter the coil should be. I found 30 to 40% of the original length works best most of the time.

An uncut coil will hold 0.5g in its buffer and theoretically another 0.5 on top of that. Obviously these numbers go down if you cut the coil. But each coil is a bit different so YMMV.

Takes about 3 to 4 seconds to get massive vapor from a cold dead start.

Have W9 tech walk you through assembly when you first get the unit. Also buy a cheap digital multimeter. It'll help track down any future issues.
Thanks Caligula. So a cut coil cannot hold the same amount of oil on top of it as an uncut one, even once they're both in the buffer. is that correct?

Yes. Its easier to overload a smaller coil which results in leaks. If it helps, I usually put 0.2 on top of a loaded coil thats cut to be flush with the top of the ceramic rod.

A full coil holds almost a gram and takes about 0.3 gram to precharge. However with thick oils it can over heat the lower section to heat up the upper section so you use a smaller one that is close to the rod. A 30% coil probably holds 0.3-0.4 g. and precharges about 0.1-0.2gram. So long story - Caligula’s 0.2 load i near perfect.

Guys I need help. I got my herc today, and it's all set up. I cut the coil and everything. Followed the assembly I instructions, and watched on you tube. But my persei just flashes at me when the herc is attached. What have I done wrong? I have the ceramic rod inserted perfectly. It's tight. I believe everything is making contact. I'm at a loss here. Is my head bad?

I have seen my Persei do this on two occasions for two different reasons: 1, my batteries were too low to power the machine and 2, I had shorted the head out. Hope it's your battery.

So far I have tried two sets of batteries. With my dual head and no carts attached, it works fine with both sets. With my singe head and no carts it just flashes. FML. @THC SCIENTIFIC did It die? I am gonna be so damned bummed. I didnt even get to try my new Herc.
*update* Herc'in away with my dual top for now! This thing is a BEAST! Love it.

If it is dead, do I just open a warranty ticket?
*update* ticket opened

On a side note...does anyone know if the herc can be used on the dual head? I have both heating elements if that makes a difference.

I had an issue a few pages back where after reassembling my Hercules(I took it completely apart after checking for leaks) and holding in the power on the Persei, it would flash like three times then go off. Pushed power button again, same flashing pattern then nothing. Is this what your Persei is doing?

He said it was happening only on the single top and w/o a cart. However the same setup works with the dual w/o a cart...
So if that is happening I expect the single head has an issue - is it brand new?

You can run the SR-71 with a dual also... Just looks strange.

OK, happy camper here. Came home and a nice box sitting on my desk... Guess what is inside :)
Yes 2 CORE units. Looking sweet.

Didn’t know it also comes with a 12V car plug two. Glad I have two. One stays in the auto, the other at home. Only need batteries for walking around now. Haven’t plugged it in yet, but in process. You may not hear from me in a while which would mean great news cause I am perhaps over medicated :)

Thanks for all the help guys, but at this point I am 100% sure it is the top. I have tried three sets of batteries, with and without carts.....all it does is flash then nothing. Press again three flashes then nothing. Just like when its dead. However if I use the dual top its all gravy. Solid light and heats up a cart. I may just try the herc with the dual. At least I can get that working. I opened a ticket, but i think I may go buy the hammer for the top for now. Not super stoked right now unfortunately.

yes but only on the single head. rest are fine. also heats on the dual head.

Sorry mod, I didn't know how to edit with a quote (to attach to an old post that is)

Heat element produced hot air is not 100% clean. A blue flame produced hot air contains h2o and co2, it is super clean for vaporization.

The best vapor is fresh, dense, low heat produced. Use a fixed temperature to vaporize is not efficient at all. You should vaporize at low temperature first to get the fresh taste, you should vaporize the whole bud to get dense vapor, and you should able to adjust temperature instantly to locate the best taste therefore the right temperature for vaping.

I found this on youtube and use it ever since, it is the BEST. And it is free.

First of all this is a concentrate pen. Secondly, nice first post. Smacks of troll or spam. I really hope people don't play that and add to your views.

Air heated by a heating element isn't clean... lmao.

I just mailed my two broken Persei tops to UpTech (w/ delivery signature, since it's required). I'm curious if the replacement parts will be shipped with a signature on delivery sort of deal. I'm really hoping that they don't because I'm a full time student with a job, I can't stay at home all day long waiting to sign something to receive my parts. Does anybody how the replacement parts are shipped?

As everyone else said you need to sign for it. I like you have been in the same boat. You do have a few options...

1)like everyone mentioned, if your not home they will leave a note and you can go to the post office the next day and pick it up...
2)if you know what time your mail man usually comes and are in a neighborhood or area that it takes him/her a while...get home around then. If the slip is already there track down the mail person and give them the form they left signed...i got lucky and did this once
3) if there is a day of the week you know youll be home or can wait around, lets say Saturday?, leave a note when you check out saying you want it to ship so that its delivered on a Saturday...they will wait till thursday to mail it out and mail it out 2 day priority so it gets there on Saturday....
4) this one may or may not work depending on your mail person, but if you dont do any of the above and know what day of the week its coming, leave a signed note in your mailbox saying your expecting a package that needs to be signed for but no one is home and ask them to leave the package anyway...

Hi everybody. I wanted to share my latest SR-71 adventures. Maybe someone can benefit. I’ve just finished my 3rd gram of wax in my Herc and was debating on whether to clean it or start loading in a 4th gram. Taste was still pretty good but I wanted to try some new wax that tested out to 93% THC and I was reluctant to put premium wax into a dirty cartridge that had been vaping some run-of-the-mill CO2 oil (and I still have 3 more grams of CO2 oil). After mulling this over for a bit I decided to do the only sensible thing. I bought a second SR-71! My reasoning; I’d get a cartridge which will only be used with the best extracts , I’d have a back-up, I’d get a chance to try out a black rod for making a super stealth setup and last but not least @ataxian was a bad influence on me!

I assembled the new SR-71 with the black rod and checked the results with my DMM (0.9 ohms). I put it on a 3.7 battery (AW IMR) and started trying to melt this premium wax into the coil (which came just to the top of the rod). It was very slow going. This was the most stable, difficult to melt wax that I’ve encountered. So I helped it along with a heat gun but this time I stopped frequently and checked airflow with the mouthpiece. After melting in each chunk I checked to see if I could get a hit. Only light wispy hits after holding the button down for long periods. After loading in most of a gram without getting better results I gave up on the black rod for this wax. I took the Herc apart and found the bottom chamber pretty clean. Maybe a .1g of oil there that was easily scraped up. Then I performed a rod-ectomy replacing the black rod with a white one without removing the coil. I reassembled the Herc so everything was the same but with the higher powered heating rod.

The difference was dramatic. Now I could get those big rips again. This new wax was very strong and clean tasting, an overpriced delight! On the Iris it still produced clouds at 6.2v even though this is only about 5W more than the power of the black rod with a fresh battery.

I think the SR-71 has a large thermal mass (all the stainless steel and the oil itself) that needs a lot of power to get it going. So if you decide to go with a 3.7v, black rod setup you may have difficulty vaporizing the most stable of oils. Less stable extracts should work fine tho. So, my stealth setup remains 2 18350s instead of one. Maybe I’ll try putting the black rod into my old SR-71 containing the CO2 oil?

All in all, I’m still lovin’ my SR71s. It’s been my daily driver for a month now and seems rugged enough to go the distance. Plus, it’s a lot a fun to experiment with for us nerds.

Hedo

Edit: After another session 6.2v was not enough to keep the vapor coming with this difficult to melt wax. I bumped it up to 6.7v which was better. Finally I went back to the regular top and got great results.

Edit2: Another session with the Iris. This time I set the Iris to 7.0v and that seemed to be close to perfect for this wax. The Iris said that I was at 35W which is 5 amps at 7 volts, so I think that I'm pushing the Iris to it's limit. Interesting how different concentrates need different power levels for best results. With the CO2 oil I was able to run at 5.1v and still get decent clouds.

Hello everybody, Just got my SR-71 today and have it broken down for cleaning (ISO Bath). Just wondering if I need to remove ceramic rod out of the metal sleeve for this process, and if so what is the best method for removing rod without damage ? Thanks in advance.

@LYFTED01
Just pull it straight out. U can twist a little if it helps it slide out easier. U don't have to iso the ceramic tho, u can just do some dry burns b4u load anything in it too make sure it's clean. I also recommend boiling your oil coils for 5 min and dry them out well too b4u load them. That's what I do to get any lubricating oils that may still be on them from manufacturing or whatever. Hope this helps.

Also it looks like your rod is inserted too far in. You should be able to see a sliver of the first tungsten contact when it's positioned properly. A very small sliver. Looks like you need to pull it out by a cm or so.
