Cleaning the tubes.

maybe this kinda thread is more relevant to international buyers. maybe cost efficient to buy a new tube when you are living in the USA but for overseas people like me, the shipping cost is very high. i am constantly looking for a method to clean the tube of both the hash and any burnt smell.

ahhh, think i'm gonna boil my whip in chinese tea afterwards, see if it can get rid of the smell.

I know, sunsett, but thats not the right alternative. The best solution would be to find the exact material and size of what you need and go out looking for it around your parts!

well vinegar is an acid so it works wonders for cleaning bases(like lime in a coffeemachine), but as far as I know resin isn't basic, so vinegar wpuld work equally well as regular water, only the vinegar would add a nasty vinegar taste to the whip

the reason to use iso/alcohol(why exactly is it called iso, is that an american brand or so? ) is that it's a solvent wich works for resin(also works for dissolving trichomes>hashoil)
so if you would want an alternative for alcohol(wich I can imagine since it's really expensive), you would need to look for something that dissolves resin

vinegar will not work. it's a mild degreaser and odor remover at best. i use it 50/50 with water to clean countertops, etc.

try isopropyl alcohol or pure grain alcohol for your whip. or if it's a small diameter, find a nail, screw, thumbtack, something that has a small stem and a flat head and run it through to kind of squeegee the sides. if the resin is real bad you can sprinkle some shake or something in there to make it less sticky and easier to harvest.

good luck!

yeah, i finally found one medical supplies provider with the 'right' size tubing but they only sell it in .....what do you call it, the 'whole bundle' at about usd200. hahaha, if i get it will be enough for maybe years.

p/s -also, the chinese tea soak does not work for tubing with burnt smell.:(

if you are looking to remove the burnt smell, a paste of baking soda and water may help. baking soda draws odors out quite nicely in other applications, and it's a mild abrasive, so i can't see why it wouldn't work here. You may want to give that a shot as i don't think it would melt the tubing or anything and it should be easy to rinse off thoroughly.

i say coat it in the paste and let it sit overnight, then rinse with water.

i use baking soda to clean most of my house that is not already cleaned with vinegar, it's some pretty amazing stuff.

Have you tried a bit of cotton ball soaked in ISO and tied to a string? Best way I have found so far.

yeah, tried it. though the issue isn't so much cleaning the whip but rather trying to find a way to get it to smell 'fresher'.

What about freezing the tubing and then banging it to knock off all the resin?

if its that silicone/stretchy tubing, would it be possible to actually flip it inside-out, scrub with (isopropyl) alcohol on a damp towel, and use the (new) inside until its time to clean that also?

i havent really used a full tube yet (mines still brand new) but when the time comes, i plan to actually slice it open with a blade & scrape all the goo out with like a credit card or something...

luckily, a local head shop sells tubing for $1 per about 30 inches so i bought $6 worth...i dont see this becoming a problem for me for a very long time...

on another note, i just switched to the turkey size oven bags (which are much bigger than the "large" sized reynolds plastic oven bags) from the original volcano bags & i fell in love with my volcano all over again...i really have to say that larger bags are the way to go with volcanos...these reynolds bags are also much quieter for people who cant stand the crinkly noise...much more pleasant & stealth (except for the gigantic bag of vapors thats tough to hide)...btw, sticking to the thread, i use 99% iso on my volcano to harvest also

I use salt and iso to clean my tubing. I like the idea of saving the inner tubing resin.

First i do my session so the whip can be hot.. than i make a similar to your cotton ball but from rolling papers then i push with a wire or a stick .. whitout iso.. I make a ball of the resin if there is any and put the paper ball straight into my MW bowl :).. When i used dbv i used roll out the ball and cut out the clean parts so i can vape only the oily.. No need to that with mw because it is powerful enough :). Then if something else is left you can run another clean ball .. which i personally would throw away.

Very good idea! I'm going to try that, or a nail!

No.

Just buy new tubing, I have tried cleaning the tubing, its not worth the time/effort.

It's worth it when you acknowledge the fact that it would otherwise just end up in landfill or the ocean..

just in case some folks are still referencing this thread, it would appear that ISO and silicone tubing is NOT a good combination. I'm looking at making a silicone whip and I'll use a mechanical method to clean it, like a screw head on a line, or some hemp or organic cotton tied to a line to pull through the tube.

With mine I usually boil the kettle and place the whip in the boiled water to soften the gunk, then I squeeze that shit out to the end.. it doesn't come totally clean but is a lot better. Would love to find a way to make them like new though

Well, I read the whole thread, and still no real solution.
I got my SB Hydromaxx today, with the sticky silicone tubing, I've tried it straight (without a water piece) and I'd say it's as nice as the OG, but easier to combust.
I have several water pieces, but I'm getting a Grizzly water unit that will sit on the Hydromaxx.
Obviously that will avoid the problem, but I only hope I can find some of this tubing in the UK, cos eventually this will get blocked.
The baking powder idea sounds good.
