Would you still want one if you knew that:

It is 500 calories.
26 grams of fat.
980 milligrams of sodium
and, are you ready for this? There is no rib in the sandwich at all. It is made of pork tripe, pork heart and scalded stomach. This concoction is then processed down with water and suger and then formed into the shape of ribs, which obviously (or not so obviously) it is not.

I used to love 'em. Now I'm not so sure........

Tripe is stomach so it is odd they list it twice...I have eaten it and heart before...so yeah, I still love my McRibs :D

This sounds right up McDonalds alley. It is advertising that, IMO, comes close to flat out lying. It's called the "McRIB" for cripes sake. Talk about deceiving!

But what difference does it make? It tastes good and it's inexpensive. That's all most people really care about.

never had one, so isn't really going to change anything. don't really like eating at macdonalds, the burgers are always a disappointment(bread that's staler as 2-3 day old bread, and vegetables that have the consistency of seaweed), and it's relatively expensive too.
if I want a quick snack in the city I prefer a snackbar(they serve some of the same fastfoodsnacks, but with more emphasis on fries and some meatproducts that I think are dutch, like frikandel and kroket, and often they don't belong to a chain)

Calling something a "McRib" leads me to believe that there is some legitimate rib meat in it. I never sat down and really considered the matter. That's why their marketing is so effective. People think, "yum, I like ribs. The McRib must be tasty". IMO it's a deceptive name for the sandwich. Why doesn't McDonalds instead call it the 'McTripeHeart sandwich?

I have my doubts that there are really hearts and stomach in the McRib. Perhaps at one time, but McDonald's has been pretty cautious these days after the backlash they have received in the past. Poking around Google, I see plenty of references to pork being used, and not byproducts. That being said, it is called junk food for a reason...

Same way that all of Subway's cold cuts are turkey based. Ham, Salami, and Bologna are all made out of turkey.

i don't care for the extruded meat products like the McNugget but i have had Filet Mignon cut up and assembled by "meat glue". We in the kitchen could barely tell a difference raw and none after cooking.
amazing stuff but will lead to bacteria problem as exposed surfaces end up inside and served too rare (imo).

After Jamie Oliver exposed the pink slime that McDonalds was using in their burgers, I haven't eaten there. The only thing I'll get there is the coffee. :shrug: Sounds like the way they are "restructuring" the "lower-valued meat trimmings" isn't much different than what they did before. Now, they're using salt and water instead of ammonium hydroxide to break down the by products that were, at one time, labeled not fit for human consumption and put in dog food.

Yum.

Just looked it up; you are correct Tweek. :) The Canadian McDonalds only uses/used 100% beef. Obviously, you have tighter standards over there. :tup:

Supposedly, its sporadically available because they wait for the price of pork to drop. McDonalds is a food commodity trader :)
