Do you think a reasonable person would conclude that you weren't implying that I was wrong?

You are wrong about the conservation of the one-hit method because again, you don't understand how conduction vapourizers work. Turning it on and off for one hit is probably the least efficient way to use your cannabis. Since the load is in contact with the heating surface, it begins to vapourize as the oven heats up, and this happens long before the Pax reaches even its lowest operating temperature. The terpenoids that provide all the flavour vapourize at temperatures at and below the Pax blue standby mode. This is a major part of the reason the Pax is flavour-challenged compared to most vapourizers. Every time you turn the Pax on you repeat this heatup and vapourize a bit more of your weed.

One more thing: your tone in your reply breaks this rule:

Well I would rather start over as I do believe this is a great community from what I have been reading in various posts. Thank you for explaining how it works. I'm only here for knowledge since I do not yet have a Pax and will hopefully own one soon. If I came off as a troll I apologize as you seemed to take what I said out of context.

I hope we can let by gones be by gones.

Anyway, is there any word on an updated version of the Pax coming out? It seems to have some problems whether or not it is cleaned daily. From what I have read, it seems problems are less with more frequent cleaning, but still a few problems. Is there anyone out there who has had it for a few months with no problems? How often do YOU clean it?

I am now the owner of a amethyst pax. I'm not sure if I made the right decision between it and a Da Vinci, I guess I'll find out once it's done charging. Was leaning towards the da vinci just because it's convection, and the pax is conduction. Da vinci also seemed easier to hook up to a bong. Ended up with the pax just because I'd be able to sell it quick if I was unhappy, and will buy the new Thermovape Cera if I'm unhappy with it.

Can anyone tell me how many bowls I should get off a battery?

We're here to fuck shit up.
I don't know if anyone is interested in this bit of info, but the oven door can be broken down. Take a toothpick and slide it between the magnets and push them both outward. The two magnets are what hold the steel insert in place. Be careful, the rubber seal attached to the steel appears to be quite fragile.

edit: nevermind, I overreacted- you just need to go slow and allow the catch to engage and disengage the lock on the mouthpiece.

Damn, my pax's mouthpiece is stuck, the retraction/extension is defective I guess. First I hadn't been able to get the mouthpiece to come out, it still extended but I wasn't able to take it out with my fingers or a coin to change temps (wasn't satisfied with vapor production on med). So I rip it out with a pair of pliar, and it finally comes out. I change the temperature to high, replace the mouthpiece, have a bowl, finish, and retract mouthpiece. Then I tried to extend it, and now it won't come out all the way or go back in. Stopped at maybe 1/3 of the way, just springs back when I try to push it in.

Oh my luck haha. I bought this PAX to replace my dying iolite, which was my back up to my t1 (whose core broke, I haven't managed to send it in yet), which was the backup to my no2...whose cord is broken. I guess I get to return it tomorrow.

Keep in mind, nobody has even tried the Cera yet, so might not hurt to sit by and let the first wave happen, see what the performance ends up being like. What color Pax did you decide on?

My Pax has the "streaky slippery" finish and I like it.

To me the Pax is a sensual object. I like to pick it up and fondle it. I don't think I'm alone here either.

Thanks for a mature and reasonable reaction. Far too often somebody responds to a post pointing out that an infraction could have been given with an irate, "What? Are you threatening me?" Welcome to FC.

Yeah.. F* Combustion..

Yes, I do this when I am walking around with it. I like to just hold it..

In other news, I used this the other day as I passed a cop walking.. Sure it was a terribly stupid idea, but did I get caught? No. Will I do it again? No. This being said, not even cops know what it is, and they couldn't tell that I was smuggling illegals just inches away from them..

I don't recommend doing this, and I wouldn't have done it, except I was walking and paxing, then turned a corner.. boom cop. In order to not look sketchy, I just continued on. They (yes it was two) never even looked over. I had sunglasses on and was staring at their eyes, just waiting to get caught.. I had that sinking feeling in my chest.

Good luck, and don't get caught if you public pax like I did.

That's what I am thinking also, especially since the Inhalater is coming out with a new model by Christmas and the Vaporblunt has an interesting new model coming out by Thanksgiving. Ugh! I was all set on buying the Inh before I found the Pax. Then I was all set on the Pax before I found the VB. Now the Cera is in the works.

I want to go ahead and buy the Pax since it seems to be the perfect stealth vape for concerts, bar shows, etc., which is its major selling point for me. On the other hand, I worry about all these little quirks and problems with the Pax, and if I spend $250 here, it will be some time before I can buy another one.

I am in a bit of a dilemma here and feel a bit gun shy to pull that Pax trigger now.

I know this is a tough time to be entering the portable vaporizer world, we will probably see new products and upgrades for the next few years. The flood gates have opened. I know there are still a few in the works, and talk of a portable Cloud as well... The only bonus I see to getting in on the ground floor, besides getting to be along for the ride, is you will have a much greater appreciation as devices improve. This is going to be one very busy holiday. I just need more $ so I can keep up...where's that trust fund?

Oh, to keep this on topic, I too love to feel the Pax in my hand, and find myself fondling it too, and I love the pulsing LED. I think Pax is top rung for my collection right now since it gives me that added pleasure of look/feel as well as performance.

I think jam is right, we're in for a flood of devices and upgraded models in the portable market. You have to treat it like any rapidly advancing technology like digicams, tablets, phones, etc. Decide what you need, buy whatever best matches your requirements right now, and stop looking. There will always be a more advanced device about to be released. There will always be something that you would have wanted had you waited. That's why you stop looking.

The Pax does have some quirks but they are easy to deal with if you are aware of them.

Agreed. And my primary concern in a portable right now is stealth. I have an Iolite for general portable use, and it works great - very reliable, very even, no quirks or hangups to speak of, but not very stealth. I love going to bar-band shows, and I have a modified Thermovape Evo for that purpose, and it works okay -- much stealthier than the Iolite -- but I have to keep constant contact with the battery for it to work well, and the SoB gets hot in my hand. This makes it much less stealth since I can't palm it well as it will burn the hell out of me. Plus, I have to be careful as it can burn my lips if I'm not conscious of my draw. This makes it much less user friendly in a crowded hall with dancing and such going on.

So the Pax looks PERFECT for this use. Your last sentence is encouraging to me. I don't mind having to coddle the vape a bit as long as it will work with minimal frustration. My hesitancy more than anything else is that I don't want to spend $250 on a vape that will cause me massive frustration if it constantly has issues, and some of the comments on here point to that possibility. If those of you with experience can tell me with certainty that a little tender love and care will keep both me and my Pax happy, then I would feel much better pulling the trigger and then watching these others develop, but it will be another year or so before I can drop another $250, so I have to be choosy.

Jamband, Pakalo, and others with experience with the Pax and others out right now ... does my description sound like the Pax is the way to go?

Dude, I was in the same mindset that you were in about 2 months ago when I first was doing research on purchasing a vape. My Pax is the only vape that I have owned but not the only vape that I have experienced. Little to my knowledge at the time of my purchase of the Pax along with the assistance of the wonderful people here at FC for their knowledge and willingness to experiment with new products I lost my job and money still is pretty tight because I haven't found employment yet.

With that said and knowing the "issues" that the others were having with their unit I came into this purchase with my eyes open and all I do is apply the simple knowledge of "A clean Pax is a happy Pax". Not my personal quote but certanily an appropriate one. In the morning after medicating the evening before, I will take a couple minutes, clean my Pax, put it on the charger, and then I know that all will be ready to go again when I need to medicate for that day. I did have a minor issue with the battery charger but the Ploom customer service is the best that I have ever come across. They are compassionate about the need to be medicated and they don't waste any time trying to fix your issue and get you back to medicating.

I spent the $250 and not for one moment have I had buyers remorse. I went into this vape relationship with my eyes open knowing the flaws and accepting them. And really, the company completely backs their customers and goes above and beyond. (sorry for the e-bay purchases out there...I really felt your pain and frustration) Losing my job and my insurance benefits have been a huge disappointment to me and if I didn't have my Pax to help me through it I would be a lot worse off then I am now.

The Pax ownership isn't for everyone but knowledge is everything and if you can accept its little flaws and adjust to them, then the Pax just might be for you.

I agree with SoCal, and really I have not been nearly as careful with keeping my Pax clean lately and still not experiencing any issues. I also have backed off my Pax use just a bit lately, use it mostly as a night cap in bed now, but it does get used daily. I also think strain has a lot to do with how fast it gunks up, my herbs right now are not very heavy with resin, so I don't think they are gumming it up as quickly as something a bit more potent and sticky would be.

As far as a functional concert vape, IMO Pax is probably the most stealth for this, its small, does not look like a pipe, and you can pack the hell out of the bowl and run it on low, getting plenty medicated with out too much cloud to draw attention (just don't drop it or the oven lid will fly off...or worse). The main thing I would think is to be sure it's clean and well maintained before you go into those kind of situations where you can not afford to have the mp stick, etc... I have yet to experience that problem myself, I was just getting the temp light.

You all are convincing me. Keep it up. I don't mind at all giving my Pax some routine tender love and care as long as I am relatively certain it will keep us both happy. I just might order my Pax tonight.

Well, Dude, you are going into this pretty well educated, so until you have real time experience, it's hard to know what you will like and won't. I know it's tough to decide with that price tag. I just dove in head first (like usual) and it started off bumpy, but has smoothed out since, and I haven't been more pleased. I just hope it lasts.

Let us know how you make out :-)

Well I went ahead and picked up an amethis.... ametis.... a PURPLE PAX (In deference to Elmer Fudd) :D
I absolutely love the concept and technology of this device.
In a word: WOW.
Now I just need to find out the minimum size bowl that will work for me so that I can preserve my stash.
I am thinking it will be ~.2g but time will tell.

My serial number is AH0416X. Anyone else out there with a similar serial number and if so when did you purchase your unit? Just curious when mine was produced.

How do you register this device with Ploom? Usually you can register on a manufacturers website
but I see no option on ploom.com.

jambandphan03

you don't need to register, just keep a copy of your purchase receipt, just in case. Did you get it from a shop or from a website?

The shop I got mine from (vaporstore.com) stopped selling them the day after I ordered mine, which made me nervous, but Ploom took care of me when I started having mouthpiece/temp light issues.

i would hold off. Ive had my pax since August and now the heater doesnt even work. I turn it on and the purple light works but it doesnt heat up. Ive cleaned it and the mouthpiece is "working". I dont understand, its worked perfectly for 3 months and all of a sudden one day it doesnt heat up? I would wait if i was you, Thermovape Cera looks promising. My .02 cents. :)

Yea I remember vaporstore's rather tersely worded statement on their website regarding Ploom, PAX and
reliability issues.
I purchased my PAX mainly as a backup toy, in case my viVape 2 stops working.
I doubt that the PAX will become my main vaping piece, but then again you never know!
