Vaporizer Purchase Question

@Glorg we can agree to disagree I guess, but I think it's more that, the edge heats up very fast for a session device, and yes the X-Max is a little slow for an on-demand device, that is why they can be considered comparable (like you are saying with the radiant heat conduction effects between them, although the way the edge works I feel like there is more conduction there in my experience, in my usage style, the way I use my X Max is more on demand and I am not hindered by the heat up personally... And my point regarding desktops still stands, the way you hit them is on demand, almost all of them really. But yeah we all think of things in our own ways!

All good, hard to derail stuff in Ask FC haha but still don't need to post back to back, you can edit previous post

Yeah, it's maybe the worst portable for microdosing, which was something the OP specifically wanted to do.

I think the Xmax V3 Pro is an easy choice here: it's so affordable, the materials are safe, it's truly on demand, and it has precise temp control and an adapter for the OP's little water piece.

If you were thinking of spending Mighty money I'd recommend the Tinymight over any of the old, slow plastic session vapes from S&B. The Mighty+ still has a plastic vapor path too, gross!

Edit: just so you're aware @andrew`124c41+ the common vapes you'll find in reviews and for sale online from Arizer and S&B are very old and dated designs with smaller, weaker heaters that take a minute to heat up. The Air, Solo II, Mighty, and Crafty (also the Rogue from HealthyRips) are all session vapes: you turn them on, wait for thirty seconds to a minute as they warm up, and then take all your hits inside a period of five minutes or so while the little oven is roasting your flower the whole time.

Nowadays, vapes like a V3 Pro set a new standard for what you can expect from an affordable portable. For example, not one of the session vapes listed above is as cheap as the V3. Also none of them has a replaceable battery like the V3 does. Last but not least, the V3 and fancier portables like the Tinymight are on demand, which means they heat up in just a few seconds and you only engage the heater during your hit (and maybe for a few seconds after you let go of the fire button).

The Tinymight has a more powerful heater and has been the gold standard for a single battery on demand portable for a few years now. Other portables like the Tetra P80 would be right up there if you only rated them on performance, but the P80 costs about a hundred bucks more than a TM and is only available in small batch drops every few months that sell out in minutes.

Part of the appeal of the V3 as a second try at a first vape is that it shows you what kind of performance you can get for $110 in 2021
Thank you. This is all very interesting and of course helpful. Of note, older designs are not necessarily bad...if they do what you need lol (If it is not broke don't fix it.)...but the plastic vapor path I can see is an issue not to mention the price for a design that has not been improved upon in 10 years.

You have many excellent suggestions - personally I think the Fury Edge would be a good place to start, but plenty of other great suggestions.

However, I just want to bring up your “precise temperature“ request. Why is it that you need it to be precise?

I only ask because if it is to get the precise cannaboids like charts like this show, I don’t want you to get your hopes up too high.

Each vape has their own temp control process. Meaning, when a vape shows the temp is, let’s say 375 F, what does that mean? Is the oven at 375? Is the weed at 375F? What happens when you quickly increase/decrease draw? Will that change the temp. Is the chart referring to when the vape hits the back of your throat or while it is still hovering above the oven? Some vapes will heat above the target temp and then drop back down as you draw. How many seconds go by before the display changes temp?

Blah, blah, blah. (I know little about the actual scientific studies and how it all happens.)
I just want to point out that those charts are more of a guide and getting an exact temperature is impossible.
I love temp stepping (starting at lower temp and working my way up), but basically I start 355ish, 385ish, 410ish - there really isn’t much difference in my experience within about 20 degrees.

Of course, I could be completely off base and that isn’t at all why you want precise temps, and if so, please ignore me completely.

You are 100% incorrect! Please read what I wrote more carefully...

Every single unit I listed in my other post can run through water including the two in the post you replied to LOL

Do some research, I don't know where you are, but it is pretty easy to order these things online, but yeah it depends where you are, check the threads I linked to see the best place to buy for you... There are several listed in the XMax thread that also carry the WPA (Yes this stands for water piece adapter sorry) or as I said order the fury 2 WPA as well...

And the fury edge and rogue are also readily available many places that sell all the accessories for them, do a little research looking up these models and see which style you think you will like best, the X-Max V3 pro is very new but very good!
My bad....my mistake. Yes, I see that they all can be run through water....I suspect with a bit of imagination, one can come to dup with a way to run anything through water. I came up with a way to do it with the G Pen Dash believe it or not....but of course, it is not exactly a high end device.

Your question regarding temps is understandable and you of course are correct. I suspect that for most of the vapes the temperature settings are approximate with respect to just how hot the bowl/heating cavity gets. To be highly accurate, the units would be far more expensive than they already are. You would need sensors, essentially a thermostat to make sure that the heating cavity remains at the exact temperature that you set.

My interest in temp control has to do with the neuromuscular problem I am trying to treat.....juggling the ratio of CBDs to THC and terpenes in the interest of seeing what if anything works for this particular indication. (Specifically, very severe cramps that are actually a form of tenany.)

I am a bit of an empiricist and throughout my career have, with proper informed consent, offered patients empirical trials of off-label drugs and even unapproved agents. So, I suspect there is no harm in my being my own experiment. :-)

So many devices....so little time lol

I have looked at the websites for all of the recommended devices. I have not figured out how you set the temp of the Tiny Might. The Tetra P80 reminds me of the spinning top craze on FB a while back. It was impossible to get some of them for a while because everyone wanted them! I need something better than the G Dash right now so I think the P80 is not in the cards.

Decisions, decisions!

while its true many of us are affected by VAS (vaporizer Acquisition Syndrome) truth be told you really only need one;) but for many of us its the same as going to the liquor store and grabbing a bottle of something new to try. every vape is a little different some suit us better than others, sometimes you got to try to find out lol

Haha yeah you are right most anything can be adapted, but I tried to suggest things that are more readily able to at least!

So the TM has a dial on the bottom, that corresponds to a full temperature range, someone posted in the thread there a breakdown of what each dash would correspond to a temperature but it is all relative with the vape like this especially... Grasshopper is another one that has a dial and a full range but a lot of other issues...

That is silly about the tops, fads are funny, but yeah this is more of a small industry type thing, so yeah the best thing to do is watch Reddit EntExchange for Tetra P80 and firewood 7 possibly (that one has three temp settings but you can set them to be anything basically once you get the hang of it you could change them quickly on the fly too) if you can put down the cash and be quick enough!

Totally true, and to get one, that meets OP needs in particular, I really don't think a portable is the best option at all, you get better power and consistency with a nice desktop and some do have the digital temp control but even with more manual temp control there's a full range of settings once you figure out what they correspond to... I'm not sure though when medical needs coming to play, Tafée Bowle and satisfy and I think minivap could be a good option though I'm not sure about its water connection??

Anyway @andrew`124c41+ the maker of the cosmic xtractor listed some new ones he made today here if they look interesting to you, they come all set up for full temp control range digitally, easy to connect to water with male to male adapters (you would need a 19/22 aka 18.8mm to 14mm adapter) which he may be able to sell you one along with the vape... @FearAndLawyering is a member here and very knowledgeable!

There is a bit of technique involved for a vape like this, but as far as the power, deep extraction, I think you would get the most out of the herbs for your needs, and you will find the specific fine temp extraction you are looking for as well, this is essentially like a tetra in a different form factor with a different heater style but practically very similar in use

Yeah again if you want the digital budget style, Xmax V3 pro and if fury edge seem like your best bets for you, but I think you will have much better experience with something more powerful like these other ones, they are more like a mobile plug-in desktop vape than any of the budget options or older tech style options, truly!

I disagree, I only have access to one strain of pot, usually years at a time and find different vapes help with tolerance problems. :2c:
I try to avoid landfill vapes like Healthy Rips now only make...no swappable battery option is a no-no for me if possible. Even the plastic dinosaur Mighty is able to have its batteries changed, even if it is a pain of a job...speaking of the Mighty, covering the aluminium bowl but still keeping an aluminium heater is like putting perfume on a pig...it is still a pig, just smells different!
Xmax V3 Pro is good on a bong or natively.

Can you swap out the Max V3 battery? Is it a 18650?

Dude, you're a physician. You worked hard to make a nice living. Why are you going the cheap route? Dude, get a TetraX or Tetra P-80. While I actually prefer my firewood 7, the Tetra stuff is Rolls Royce. I prefer the TetraX to the P-80, but the P-80s are über sexy!

Very precise heating control, works well with water, exceptional taste. While it is portable, I still wouldn't consider it a throw in the pocket and go for a hike type vape. It has a lot of glass.

The only real issues I had with the P-80s is they are a bit bulky to hold, and get quite uncomfortably warm on the palm or the fingers, depending on the grasp. The TetraX is more versatile to hold and configure the set-up. It's also less clumsy for me with a waterpipe.

Neither are easy to get. For the P-80 it's gonna be in the 4 to 5 hundred dollar mark. TetraX's come around much less often, but are considerably less money. I got mine with a Cuboid 200 mod for $200 not too long ago. I am talking about used market on both. New drops are a bit of a frenzy from what I understand.

I still reach for my firewood 7 first, but when I use my TetraX I really appreciate it. You deserve it, and stay the hell away from gpen.

They also excel in both on-demand and session modes.

I appreciate your thoughts. I have no doubt about the quality of the two devices but as you said, getting a hold of one of them will be a challenge. I need something better than the G Dash now.

Who knows when either of them will become available.

You just need to keep an eye on Reddit, you can set alerts so you can see every time something is posted so when a tetra is posted you can snag it right away, these were posted recently

Are they? Dodgy seller at best., no CS and don't check out his old devices to see how he looked after customers...gave up selling to the US for a while.

Yes the TM are readily available to buy for people in the US (and always have been)... and you can microdose with it... Also there's absolutely nothing dodgy about buying this product from them, there's plenty of customer service happening positively in the TM thread as well, please don't judge the tinymight based on the apollo, or at least do more research reading that thread for the latest before you trash talk it elsewhere :D

My experience is the exact opposite. Great vape. No problems. Arrived to US quickly. Almost perfect extraction. Great microdoser.

Anyway, respect for Les, just totally does not match my experience.

For the record I am only talking about here for research, I was talking about the TM thread here, I don't know why you would reply implying that you didn't know it was the same person...? Yes they never made any announcement regardless about anything TM was started as a new company, and yeah it is very good product in the company has been very good for most people...

I have a tinymight. It is definitely a great vape. I don't know why, but I never really bonded with it. It really is a fantastic vaporizer though. I never had issue with mine. You can adjust the size of the bowl to any size you want. Like the Tetra stuff, it is both on-demand and session. The only reason I didn't mention it at first is the temp controller. You really seemed to demand accurate temp control. With the dial I never know what temp I'm heating to, but it is extremely consistent.

Yeah I pissed on the rug...... so what
as a medical user and micro doser let me give you a little advice. for many micro dosers the strength of the high is relative to the treatment of the condition eg me, I treat myself for depression and insomnia both require different effects. during the day I want milder effects so I vape skunk haze, it tops out at 5% thc 10% cbd and I tend to temp step my load. at night I need something stronger so I switch to regular weed, the weakest I have is 19% thc and going up to 28%, at night I'm much more inclined to take a strong hit or two at high temp than temp stepping. you seem like you are a medical user first and not a lifetime user looking to convert from smoking so things like getting big clouds or strong throat feel aren't relevant to you??? experiment with temps, different strengths of thc and cbd, how big of a hit you take, these are all variables that change the effects you will get.

the tinymight is a fantastic vape and my favourite but with my load size of .05 (both day and night) performance of vapes, at least those that can handle those small loads evens out quite a bit, even more so if you are temp stepping. with my basket screen hack for my V3 i'm able to have my preferred amount the same I would use in my tinymight and the differences between the two is not earth shaking. extraction is a bit faster with the tinymight so you can take smaller hits and it has more horse power for higher temps if you are after the heavier compounds like cbn. air flow is also a bit freer wit the tinymight and makes for a more comfortable hit.

I come from a smoking background both weed and tobacco so things like throat feel are relevant to me, I use to be a much more heavy user but have learned a lot since switching to vaping

That is why I am asking. I don't know anything about who sells the Tinymight. I just see that a website exists and someone answered my email regarding the Tinymight.
The MaxV3 has gotten a lot of good reviews.

Are there dosing pods for it?
