Yes I much rather read instruction than have to watch in in video form. The stemped does come with instructions that should also be online.

There is a FAQ on the modpod page that be a great place to have more detailed info.
Maybe also post manual post there.

Things like how to install and replace coils.
How often they would need replacement.
Mod basic settings

Right now running in watt mode till I get the new coil. Not really sure what metal is in the elevape coils doesn't do TC well. Its working and making great clouds that what matters. Have laptop with me so might mess with arctic fox setting.

Liking it a lot with this new mod. The battery life could be better but wanted something compact.
Love how small the setup turned out to be

Things I really like,
First is the way the fire button is the whole side screen of the mod. Have issue with hands and much easier to squeeze my hand than click a fire button.

The side lights at first thought was kinda tacky. Once realized could hold this mode much higher up see the pic. You can see when it's firing. Added bonus it changes color based on battery level. I can turn them off but finding them helpful.

I personally think the FJ firmware with its cruise feature is such a positive for a convection vape that you might as well get a mod that works with it. Right now I have an RX mini, a pico and an evic basic. All work with FJ firmware but all are too small

Are you saying that you were able to install @funkyjunky firmware on an Eleaf iStick Pico?

I have an Eleaf iStick Pico 75W that I plan to use with the Stempod. I've tried flashing the mytuboevic firmware (180408-tubomyevic-warmup2cruise-autotempstep-beta.bin) and the myevic firmware (myevic.bin) with both the ArcticFox/NFE flasher and the stock Eleaf flasher and both applications refuse to flash the firmwares.

My main interest in the FJ firmware is the ability(?) to eliminate the 15 second puff cutoff. I'm assuming that Stempod may require longer than 15 second draws to produce clouds.

I'm also interested in the cruise feature, and/or any other features that the FJ firmware may have that the AF firmware does not.

If you can hold a puff for longer than 15 seconds without water I’d be impressed... the first two times I used the stempod I actually coughed since I didn’t expect the vapor heat to ramp up so quickly.

Also it remains to be seen how well the ModPod handles cruise mode. Heat will build up, possibly transferring down to the mod. Might trigger the mod temperature protection or not...

My stainless steel and glass attachments already become crazy hot (i.e. burning your finger hot) when I use them normally in TC mode.

Even without cruise mode, when I used the stempod with one other person, and took 3 total hits back to back my evic vtc mini gave me a heat warning. I was kinda bummed, but for the most part I’ll be using the vape solo so it’s not a huge deal for me.

Nope I got it working on an evic basic, evic vtc mini and an RX mini so far. Never said anything about the pico. Sorry for the misunderstanding. There’s a list of compatible mods for the FJ somewhere. I don’t think the pico was on it but I could totally be wrong.

Edit: good point @KeroZen I’m finding cruise is not needed with the stock notch coils. But since I plan on changing my coils eventually and hopefully getting to a place where I have 2-3 coil set ups to swap, then the cruise could come in handy. I also despise the 15 second cut off on my mod boxes.

Im having zero luck with the modpod.

Im running AF and have set up TC mode using the supplied values and Ive tried it in straight wattage starting at 20 watts and going to 40. Ive yet to get any vapor out of this device.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Do you see any glow happening at those wattages?

Also how open is your airflow? I like a tighter draw and get good results with that.

I'm also looking for suggestions for my vaporesso. I can customize my wattage for the first 5 seconds at half second intervals. Currently starting at 38 watts and climbing 1 watt per interval until I reach 45 watts which runs until the 10 second cut off. Solid results but looking for other suggestions.

Might even try running it the other way 45 watts down to 38-40 and see what happens

Please help me out. As I understand it, using the FJ firmware, cruise mode keeps the atty warmed up for a set period of time so that the user gets vapor immediately when they start to draw, correct? Cruise mode isn't needed with the SP using the stock notch coils since they heat up very quickly, also correct? What are the characteristics of coils that don't heat up quickly therefore making the use of cruise mode desirable?

With a larger mass heating element you need to preheat for longer. But the advantages are: more surface area (a must for convection), no glowing required (heater works at a lower temperature), more inertia + smoothing of temperature variation (good for unregulated or VW vapes), heat reservoir effect (can continue drawing while power is released)

I think most users enjoying cruise mode use it mostly to not have to hold the trigger and not really to reduce heatup time. The vape is no longer on demand but more like a session convection vape.

A less advertised benefit of cruise mode is increased efficiency. It takes more energy to heat up and coold down on-demand than just heat-up once and maintain the heater at the set temperature.

Wow this thread is moving so fast right now! I wanted to quote a bunch of people and respond to things, but I think I can only manage to offer some updates and notes to my early "review" and offer some other general opinions in a less organized fashion?

So after an initially very successful 1st day of use with the SP, I ran into a few minor issues & bugs mostly regarding my mod settings, how I was using it, and technique :sherlock: (spoiler: my notch coils didn't burn out yet, but maybe a little worn already?)

I had good results using the SP with some of my "smaller" or more restrictive glass pieces, (my 14mm klein torus clone and my 18mm small ash-catcher J-hook) so I wanted to try with one of my favorite hydratube / adapter rigs for inverted convection flower vapes...
mnpfciat_o.jpg

I use it alot with my tubo evic, so I've named it my "tree of tubo" but now with the SP, could it be my "stempod shrub" or "stempod sapling"? :\ cute names aside, I love this setup and the all-18mm, high-airflow, low drag with the recycler. But my problem with this glass setup and the SP? Possibly too much airflow potential! :bang: With the air throttle wide open and me huffing pretty hard, I was overpowering the TC @ 50w, with the temp set to 400F, I was seeing on-screen temps only in the 360-370's, resulting in meager vape

To fix this I set the max watts in TC to 60w (too much? :o idk?) and reduced the air throttle to about 1/2-3/4, and I was able to get some clouds from this glass setup, but it wasn't fully satisfying. :( Seems like the little notch coils couldn't stand up to the super-high-airflow type of convection vaping that I like thru this rig. Sucks, because the SP was working very well with my pieces that aren't so wide-open on the air

With max 60w in TC, with me huffing pretty hard, I would now see the SP & evic reach my set temps, putting out a steady 40-50w+ to keep up, but it seems I could still "overpower" the coils on demand by huffing as hard as I can, seeing 60w output, and coils getting too cool. :( I briefly tried 75w but that seemed excessive, for the little coils and also maxing out my evic and 18650s, so I went back to 60w and tried to limit myself to accommodate the notch coils.

hAbgZSrX_o.jpg

After having tried all my glass rigs that I like to use with flowers, it seemed past time to try the SP dry. I was a bit skeptical with my previous experience with dry convection, but I was pleasantly impressed! I couldn't get much at low temps, but using same temps I use with glass (400-420F) taking long, semi-restrictive draws with Dan's glass stem, I was able to get some pretty nice sized, fairly smooth clouds with pretty minor, minimal irritation! :cool:I'm have a fairly sensitive vape-throat, and some of my other powerful vapes like the tubo evic are too much for me dry, so this was a nice surprise.

Now there's alot of discussion maybe I can still comment on...
@AJS I think you asked how's the flavor with the SP thru water? (or dry?)

Well, so far, I think the flavor on the SP is very good, almost excellent when you got everything worked out right on some nice flowers? At best, I would give the SP an 8 / 10 on flavor, and I'm a pretty picky guy when it comes to flavor and vapes. By comparison, I would rate my beloved tubo evic as a 9/10, when running optimally, and the crafty I would say an 8 / 10, to compare a conduction vape, or just other portables I own.

Here's the kicker though: I'm finding that when I "finish" a load on the SP, pounding the shit out of a tiny ~0.1g sized pinch of herb, with repeated puffs to make sure it's really done (my habits are to waste very little) that these marginal, final puffs at the end aren't bad, they taste very neutral! Compared to other convection vapes I've tried like the tubo, chasing those last, ass-hits from the bowl can taste more nasty and less desirable. :2c: Not as bad with the SP it seems

8Z5ng1G8_o.jpg

But here's why I say "at best" :| After my first great day with the SP, I've noticed some un-even vaping and hot spots, now mostly on the side of my bowl, oddly :hmm: Not really sure why I was seeing this?

I noticed that one of the notch coils on my deck seemed like it was touching the airflow tube that is underneath it, and the other wasn't. I was not shorting the coil or causing any apparent problem and seemed to be vaping fine, but I later moved it anyways, and I started seeing more charring after I did this I think? Later I noticed that I might have deformed the coil I touched; it seemed kind of bent in the middle and not so cylindrical as before. The other side seemed unchanged beside the oxidized color. Looking at the deck sideways, I saw the notch coil that I moved was higher than the other, I moved it too high, probably causing the 1-sided charring, so I tried to level it with the other coil, not touching the air tubes, and the next bowl vaped more evenly. But with my high watts, and heavy-handed handling of the delicate notch coils, and seeing other people's issues with them now, that does not inspire much confidence in me about this little coils, especially with all the glowing, which I was concerned about from the start. This is making me want to try alternate heaters very soon, probably starting with DT's ceramic rods. Anyone who has success with alternate metal coils & heaters with the stempod, I hope you share your results & what you do

Also if I can give my :2c: about the best ways for SP customers & fans & watchers to stay up-to-date with info from @supershredderdan:

@Summer: thanks for posting up & sharing when Dan has live streams on IG, I know you're just trying to spread the good word.

However, I'm more with @Hogni & some of the others in my views about IG, streams, and social medias in general? (maybe?)

IG is owned by one of the largest, most evil, data-mining-est company that has ruined the inter-webs that I once loved by spreading disinformation, manipulating people's behavior & driving them apart into mutually-exclusive echo chambers, throwing elections, & generally making people miserable. (sorry I can go on..)

Now IG isn't nearly as evil as it's proprietor, and I do browse some IG accounts for posts & videos of my favorite vape & extract companies and vape enthusiasts, etc. I admit it's a good resource to share & see whats up, especially for small & mid-sized companies & startups like Dan & Modpod labs.

But I will draw the line for myself at not signing up for these evil companies just so I can watch Dan's stream. I already have to block so many 3rd party cookies and enable so much potentially compromising javascript just to see this content that is constantly trying to track me, not to mention the cookies & JS trying to track you at un-related 3rd party sites even! :bang:

So sorry to rant on...:D I'm not trying to direct my wrath at Summer or Dan in particular, but to answer Dan's question, what would be another source to post these videos & info? Youtube would be great, since anyone can watch that anytime without having to sign up for nothing.

But also to @Hogni's comments, I also agree I can't be watching hours-longs live streams on the regular to get critical & up-to-date info...I also waste too much time on FC sometimes, I give what I can and read what I can, but if Dan or any fans watching could summarize the key points for us, that would be great

And also reddit...:\ meh... I follow links to reddit threads on occasion as it's a thriving community for vapes or...anything. But I try to avoid it if I can find the info elsewhere, like here. Too much Nazis & Nazi apologists, etc on reddit. Not to say that everyone contributing over there is, but I prefer to participate in Nazi-free environments & platforms that aren't financially supported by online fascist activities. :) Sorry if I'm getting too personal or political for some. Some Nazis might like to vape also, or some of you may like Nazis.

Thanks for your preliminary review! Obviously there is a certain learning courve yet with the SP itself and in addition with the right settings of your - and anyone's - mod. Do you think the DT ceramic rods work? Thought it's intended to use in direct contact to the trates?

Eager for results of Dan's new coils testings. Hope everything will be ok when my SP with wooden case is ready to ship.

Please @supershredderdan inform us when SPs with wooden cases a ready to ship. Then I'd like to order some parts in addition. Guess there are more to come besides new coils?

It says on the link that dual coil resistance is 0.15 ohm. I dunno if that’s all you’re asking for though.

I’d love to hear whether they work well, after you’ve tried them.
I was mainly curious about TCR value/if regular tc mode will work with these coils. I’m new to mods so I don’t fully understand how temperature control can be accurate with different coils etc.

I’ll be sure to update with results, I just thought I’d post here for any suggestions before they arrive.

Yeah, I’d help if I could, but its all new to me as well. I’m hoping somebody finds the perfect solution and passes it on, because I’m not really interested in a bunch of trial and error. :)

I’m in the same boat, that’s why i figured I’d order some thicker coils hoping they’d last far longer/more reliably, but we’ll see I guess.

Any stainless steel coils are going to work in TC mode. Here's a link for when you get your coils. Everytime you put new coils on you'll need to dry fire the coils to remove hot spots. Coils like the ones you bought can break easily because of hot spots.

https://www.advancedvapesupply.com/pages/316l-coil-wire-instructions

I’m not really interested in a bunch of trial and error

Luckily there's not too much trial and error with dry herb vaping. If you were vaping ejuice it would be 10x more work to narrow down the right settings.
