The 2016 Presidential Candidates Thread

lwein, sorry if that came off harsh, I am just tired of defending my decision not to vote for a candidate. I don't mean to say you are bullying me in the mean sense of bully, but in the persistent pressure sense. I feel bullied the way a vegetarian feels when they're eating at a steakhouse. There are no good options but I'm being forced to choose one, and when I choose garden salad I get shit for not eating a real meal.

@Silat, did you watch the VP debate? Kane and Pence both said they support bombing Assad's forces. Even if you don't believe me about the no fly zone (I suggest you watch the video I posted a page back where a US general said a no fly zone would lead to escalation with Russia).

Understood but tell me, @Farid, what do we do about this, or can we do anything about this:

IMO bad timing trying to make a statement about a 3rd party. We have terrible choices but one would be catastrophic maybe even Earth ending. Sorry to be so dramatic but it would be a crisis of historical proportions for Trump to be elected. Vote for your candidate but just vote even in local elections it makes a difference. There definetly needs to be change but I don't want an America with Trump as president. Even if he doesn't blow things up, he will have a huge negative impact for decades to come.

A little humor below. I think we need it in this thread.

pronounce Nevada wrong
7:21 PM, Oct 5, 2016

RENO, Nev. (AP/KTNV) - New York native Donald Trump's latest campaign swing through Nevada included a lecture to supporters at a rally in Reno about the correct way to pronounce the name of their state. He insists it's "Neh-VAH-da."

The Republican presidential candidate performed an exaggerated form of his preferred his pronunciation from the stage at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center Wednesday afternoon.

He declared that "nobody says it the other way."

The confused silence from the crowd mixed with a few shouts of disagreement indicated that quite a few Nevadans pronounce their home state "Neh-VAD-uh."

RELATED: Donald Trump holds rally in Henderson

American Bridge, a group that supports Hillary Clinton, immediately put up a web video declaring that Trump was "looking like an idiot" for getting the name wrong.

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, who has been highly critical of Trump, also released a statement.

"If Donald Trump wants to come down from the penthouse his daddy bought him to lecture us on how to say Nevada, he could at least pronounce it correctly," Reid said.
This lesson gets an "F."

Hillary Clinton Promises To Be Much Harder On Federal Marijuana Laws

Hard to like that one if it's true, this could backfire on killary and become a new wedge issue.

It makes sense with all the big alcohol/pharma dollars at work, as both are huge donors to the clinton campaign. The comments in below that article are telling, as far as the millennial vote goes.

Drumpf is supposedly for state's rights. Will killary snatch defeat from the jaws of victory over weed?

edit:
It was a biased source, here's the original it wasn't chelsea about mom it was wasserman about herself(?) so it was a bogus twitter post; also killary did say she'd re-schedule; the reddit thread has better info...

Scary article though, as drumpf may appoint christie head narc if he wins who do we really trust?

Perhaps a dance-off would be the best way to decide.

trump tells terminally ill people not to die before Nov. 8th.

Trump To Dying People: Stick Around Long Enough To Vote For Me

I don’t care how sick you are,” Trump said at a rally in Henderson, Nevada. “I don’t care if you just came back from the doctor and he gave you the worst possible prognosis, meaning it’s over, you won’t be around in two weeks. Doesn’t matter. Hang out till Nov. 8. Get out and vote.”
Trump prefaced his comments by saying “I say kiddingly, but I mean it.”

And then there's this from trump supporters. The election is rigged....unless trump wins.

And finally, from the lovely, charming, syndicated radio talk show sociopath rush limbaugh. Hurricanes are a conspiracy by the left and the left needs hurricanes to be destructive to help them prove climate change. Oh, he also says that there are no intelligent people living in trailer parks.

I'm tired of being manipulated by this two-party tyranny bullshit, even if I haven't been around for all 150 years of it. From what I can see brexit hasn't destroyed much of anything over in the uk; apple computer even pledged to build a huge new campus over there post-brexit which is a huge vote of economic confidence. If hillary decides to invade syria over the objections of our generals and russia responds in kind to protect its military assets (it could be their pearl harbor), a lot of folks will be regretting voting for wwiii as well. This is promising to be a historic election year for 3rd-party voting, and I'd much rather be a part of that history than be forced to choose between an unabashed lying criminal racist giant douche weakling of a strongman, and an ambitious isis-enabling warmongering nwo-sellout turd sandwich career politician.:myday:

Everyone sleeps with their own conscience and sometimes that's more than enough for a person to make a decision. I feel similarly to @grokit and @Farid. If they decide that being true to themselves, and not voting for Trump or HRC carries more weight than anything else, then all I can say is 'sweet dreams' guys.

I'm going to vote for HRC even though I hold very similar views to @grokit and @Farid. It remains to be seen who will sleep better at night when the smoke clears.

I'm a third party voter. That's just what it is. For my first election, I threw away my vote because I couldn't stand the thought of all generations before me and all those after, holding their nose and voting this lesser of two evils thing.

I agree with the dude who said we are building something. One day you will join us. I do not see either of the two parties going back.

And I believe it was me who linked Federalist 51 by James Madison talking about how factioning off is critical for a system of checks and balances, so that no one faction may get too strong. It's like no one paid attention in government and just went along with what was already happening.

Chelsea Clinton has walked back a statement she made over the weekend suggesting marijuana can lead to death when mixed with other drugs.

A spokeswoman for the daughter of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told The Huffington Post that Chelsea “misspoke” during a forum at Youngstown State University in Ohio, when she said there is “anecdotal evidence” that some medical marijuana patients had died due to toxic interactions with other drugs they were taking.

“Chelsea misspoke about marijuana’s interaction with other drugs contributing to specific deaths,” the spokeswoman said. “Hillary Clinton has said we should allow states that have reformed their marijuana laws to act as laboratories for our democracy and we should reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule II substance. Chelsea agrees and has long recognized and spoken about the need to study marijuana and get the conversation out of politics and into medicine and science where it belongs.”

On Saturday at Youngstown, an audience member asked Chelsea a questionabout her mother’s support for rescheduling marijuana for medical research. The former (and possibly future) first daughter said her mother “absolutely supports more research” and supports states that have legalized marijuana for recreational or medical purposes. But then Chelsea suggested marijuana use could be deadly.

The remarks were alarming to many drug reformers.

“It was a goofball thing for her to say,” Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of Drug Policy Alliance, told HuffPost. “There’s zero evidence that marijuana combined with any other drug proves to be fatal. Marijuana can enhance the effects of other drugs, but it does not enhance the danger to your life.”

Nadelmann also said that Chelsea may have confused marijuana, which has zero documented overdose fatalities in thousands of years of recorded use, with the very real opioid overdose epidemic currently plaguing the nation ― which frequently involves fatal drug combinations, like mixing heroin with alcohol or the very powerful painkiller fentanyl.

There is also some irony to Chelsea’s misstatement. Several recentstudies suggest that access to legal medical marijuana may aid in reducing opioid overdose deaths as well as use of opioid medication in general for pain relief.

It seems like Hillary is not getting much help from Celsea and Bill. Putting their foot in their mouth this close to an election is dangerous.

What worries me is that Chelsea may have gotten her 'reefer madness' views from HRC and Bill and that HRC's position is nothing more than a political statement meant to find middle ground so as not to lose a vote. I'm not convinced that HRC will do much more than allow the states to do what they do without her supporting any federal changes.

Chelsea was wrong ..... but Bill's comment on the ACA being 'crazy' is spot on IMO. I haven't hid my distaste for the ACA and it's unraveling right before my eyes.

Still - HRC should put a muzzle on Bill till after the elections.

I find it irritating that the third party gaining the most support is the most ideological and least practical of them all. It's funny that there are a significant amount of people who want to elect a political party to government that doesn't believe government can do anything right by nature. Does anybody want to hazard a guess at the percentage of Libertarian voters who actually know what they are voting for aside from a liberal stance on cannabis? The whole ideology is an excuse for not having any empathy for fellow human beings. This is what is being built while a monster has gotten this close to the White House on a wave of hate and stupidity.

@KimDracula Bernie's ideals and stance on issues is not even close to what the Liberatarian platform is all about. Jill Stein's ideas are way different too. They are just voting against the establishment as a protest vote is all I can assume. I say don't burn your bridges.

Bernie has caused the democrats to take on some of his plan. I notice he is out today campaigning for Hillary. I'm hoping this will help with folks in their 20s that are leaning third party.

Even if you are disillusioned regarding the presidential election. Vote on your local lawmakers and issues in your local communities and state.

While fiscally conservative and socially liberal, I am not a Libertarian. I think there is a bigger role for government than envisioned by them and I have a couple of less-liberal areas than total freedom socially.

However, claiming the ideology is an excuse for not having any empathy for fellow human beings is untrue. The ideology has to do with freedom and responsibility. Individual liberty is the key and any other aspect is less valued. Being for individual liberty is not the same as not having any empathy for fellow human beings. It just puts a higher priority for teaching a man how to fish over giving him one.

As to knowledge of what people are voting for, you can do most any test or quiz you want and less than 1/2 of the people will be able to identify the vice president even if you give a picture and a name and 'ol Joe came down to give a reach around and say "hi" just before the question. Should we really expect too much more than "I like the cut of his jib on marijuana."?

Most of you are well aware of my anti-FOX NEWS rants even though I watch it to be able to expose myself to different political points of view but after THIS abomination, I changed my Dish packages and no longer get FOX, and ya know what? I'm not gonna miss it a bit. Enough of this trash.

What is this abomination you ask? The following was a headline on their site:

"Disturbing Video Shows Couple Unconscious on Sidewalk After Using Heroin"

When you read this article and read the headline above, the ONLY thing that FOX was disturbed about was the heroine overdose. Hey Fox, what about the fucking idiots in the video who were commenting, laughing and taking pictures without offering any kind of comforting assistance whatsoever. THAT is what was fucking disturbing. Public heroine overdoses are disturbing but it doesn't hold a candle to what happened afterwards.

I was having a really nice morning until I saw this shit.

Here it is, in all of it's ugly glory.

http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/10/...ewalk-after-snorting-heroin-viral-video-shows

Edit: The only reason that I posted this up here is to more clearly define, if it even needed to be more clearly defined, how Fox has absolutely no fucking clue on....................... ANYTHING.

In my opinion, the media's coverage of Gary Johnson post primaries is what led to his rise in polls. I think that if the same had been done to Jill Stein she would have actually reached the fifteen percent required for the debates.

51 percent of American voters are independent. That means there is dissatisfaction with the current political parties. If you were to take my advice and vote policy, I believe most of the voting public aligns with Jill Stein.

Just based on a poll I remember being told about when election time started. Most of Bernie's and Jill's policies were agreed upon by more than 50% of the polled people. Some were consensus forming at 60.

I'll try to dig it up. I regret not bookmarking anything even more now.

Not what I read, but this looks close enough. Reading it all right now.

I think everyone finds out how withering the glare of the Media's scrutiny is. You don't have to know much if no one asks any questions. The reasons folks look to 3rd party becomes obvious but the reason they were 3rd tier also become more pronounced.

I point you to Jill Stein. I do not think there is a more presidential candidate in the race.

Did you listen to the Ralph Nader interview I linked a few pages ago?

She oozes information and policy when she's interviewed. They typically try to play her into gotcha moments, but I haven't seen her fall into the trap.

Her speech patterns is that of an educated person who does not deal in absolutes.

She is well rounded. You will not find her having an "Aleppo" moment as Gary Johnson had.

There's a lot more. I think I love her. <3

My theory is that he has his own set of DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) codes. They differ radically from Trump's, but IMO he suffers from extreme mental disorders, too: He's just a more self-controlled evil nut case. That being theory/opinion, I don't need to back it up with links. :2c:

Only evil people encourage others to vote for the lesser of two evils.

It seems to me that an objective understanding requires voting against the greatest evil.
Packing up and going home because I don't like the choices offered is not adult behavior.
Allowing evil to prevail because the good is not the best, is ignorant.

If, of two possibilities, I can not do both and must choose, I vote to stop a Hitler before I vote to stop a car thief.

Sure, the possibility exists that the nice granny person on the ballet may turn out to be a bad choice: I don't know the future.

I do know that if I choose to vote for the wolf who has tossed off the sheep's-clothing, I can't complain when the wolf behaves like the wolf that was long before clearly revealed.

Independent does not automatically equal socialist, let alone communist, and I highly doubt 51% of Americans want an avid communist as president:2c: Education and vocabulary aside, her stances on most issues would piss off a lot of people.

Like/love her all you want, but I cannot fathom 51% voting for her. Stein/Trump, Trump would win hands down IMO. She is more extreme than Bernie, with the angry moments to set her apart in her own political stage.

I have not seen these angry moments you talk about. I'll have to look it up. And yeah, while most Americans would balk at the prospect of such a thing as a secured job or whatever nonsense is in the party platform, she's pretty down to earth and says those are backburner goals to say things like the environment, healthcare, education and infrastructure/economy policy that aligns with the public. I think she knew she had a chance after Bernie was sent to the side but there wasn't enough coverage. Most people I talk to don't even know who she is.

I think it just has to do with informing the voting public of their options.

Edit: @yogoshio I'm assuming you didn't see this. On policy alone, based on that poll, Jill Stein would beat Trump.
