Curious, how is maintenance with the Zion? I have relatively little experience with vape's but curiou how difficult/tedious it is to keep it going at full power and without clogs etc.

The basket screen for the stem is very durable, and decently course that airflow is strong, difficult to clog especially with aforementioned medium grinding. Cleaning is also easy, a quick iso swab with a qtip could clean a filthy screen in seconds really, and even a full wash for the screen and stem is quick, but you can go a long while without cleaning anything, it can kind of clean itself a bit thanks to its sheer power too

Agreed. All that there is to clean is the screen, which can be easily removed and reseated with no fuss just need a long poking device. Screens are easy to clean, torch or soak. The glass stem itself is easy to soak in a little container or tall shot glass and is short enough that a pipe cleaner or rolled up paper towel can get and stuburn bits easy. As Snacks said you don't have to do it often if you don't want to as the hot convection will clear the screen fairly well just take a few dry hits.

Hot water and paper towel on the fly for quick decent cleaning. Add hemp fiber and a second screen if you want to catch all the bits and reclaim with less regular maintenance.

After 47 years of daily mj enjoyment, despite the last 15 exclusively vaping, my appetite for big clouds hasn't subsided from all the years of combusting. Haven’t been able to satisfy that with any of the newer portables I tried, so kept returning to my one-hit MFLB. But even with that, to get enough ooomph I have to use it with the power adapter. So... I almost went for TOD but prefer the aesthetics of the Zion. Hoping with some high-temp pre-heat I’ll be able to knock out some cumulus on the first, or at least by second hit.

I just quit combusting and love blowing big clouds!! I don't think that will ever go away for me. I hope the Zion can deliver the clouds and after reading through this thread plus seeing some videos I think I'll be on cloud 9.

From what I can recall there are two screens in the female joint. Two different mesh sizes.
Then a further single baket shaped screen in male bowl. Lost count how many of those same 'moments' I've had myself.

Yeah, what you recall is same as I think. 2 in the device itself, 1 basket screen for the stem. So that's what I meant

First, thanks to the Beta Team for answering questions and for all of our customers for patient as we focus on production release.

Please direct any business related correspondence through our web page form. We apologize for not answering questions about shipping times and orders as we will be emailing customers this week to ensure that their order is correct and let them know their serial number.

We are starting to update our website with pictures of the first production unit as well as updated photos of the batteries,and chargers. We will be putting together packages that reduce overall purchase cost and also throw in some free stuff like the new colored battery cases. All of our batteries will be charged prior to shipment so you can start to use your Zion as soon as you receive it. This also provides a final quality check on the batteries prior to shipment.

The Beta Team units will ship over the next week. After a week or two we will begin to ship the initial production units. If all goes to plan we will ship between 25 and 50 units in October.

After the first 50 units are shipped we will take 2 or 3 weeks to ensure that the first 50 are running without issue. Once we are satisfied that the reliability of the production units meet or exceed that of the Beta units we will begin shipment of the next batch of 200 units. We anticipate that these units will take us into 2016 as we will slowly start production and ramp up as we grow more confident.

Look for more pictures and videos to drop over the coming weeks.

I'm glad things are going according to plan and you are ensuring a superior product, but is RBT saying November for everyone but the beta's? I purchased about a month ago (sept 8), and just want a ball park time frame, as it will directly affect how I manage my VAS - not kidding. If it's November, I can probably hold out, later than that there is no way, VAS will strike - HARD.

Who am I kidding? I'm about to pull three different triggers right now!

I think I'm more addicted to vaporizers and accessories than actual herb

I guess you could, but the stem wouldn't fit as well if you loaded the female end and i see no advantage of doing so. But when bits fall down, the heater cover screens stop them from falling further.

I only have one screen for my stem at the moment but once i get a handful of screens i want to experiment with a few diffrent things; using the second screen to hold some hemp fiber in place and also using a screen sandwhich to keep herb in place while on the move or traveling. I shall report back afterwards

You can and I experimented a lot with this when I first got mine. It works but isn't really practical. Here's my post on it:

To clarify, there is no issue with the bowl screen and connection to water tools. The bowl screen issue happens when loading the bowl, and I have news along that line.

The concern with putting a load in the bowl instead of in the stem was that you would need a screen atop the load, and the pressure of the stem against that top screen and load could push the bowl screen out. The potential solution was to use a modified stem that simply didn't sit as deeply in the bowl, and @RastaBuddhaTao sent me two shortened stems to try. They've arrived, I've tested them, and my conclusion is that loading the bowl isn't really practical, with or without shortened stems.

The problem is that without a specially made screen, it's really hard to get a screen in place that traps all the load beneath it. If you use a screen that has a diameter slightly smaller than the bottom of the bowl, you'll inhale some of the load. If it is slightly larger, it will drop in sideways, and when you try to flip it into place you inevitably wind up with some material above the screen. It's possible to make a screen that is easier to place but the benefits don't justify the effort. I've found that it is easier to put screens in the stems and connectors. If you need to have your load right next to the bowl screen, you can adjust the stem screen to do that.

I'm sure RBT will welcome the outcome, since it means fewer worries about the bowl screen getting displaced, and no need to offer shortened stems or special screens.

You could also not use a screen atop the load and rely on the screen in the stem, but then the only difference from loading the stem is that some of the load gets trapped under the rim of the stem. I was trying this because my stems arrived without any screens. As soon as I got screens that would fit the stem, I abandoned this idea because there is no benefit from it whatsoever that I can see.

They look similar to these which means there should be a small machine screw on the underside of the stopper. So no worries of it being screwed into the cork.

That plate is a simple and elegant battery contact; Many of my other devices look cheap once opened up, but the Zion keeps looking sexy outside and in.

One isn't a door, the panel over the electronics is non removable by the user. There was discussion over using quartz or something they could be seen, but all agreed wood was the simplest solution. Makes the battery door easier to fit securely for every unit.

@Bravesst I'd expect November given when you ordered, nearly certain about that

@peterpiper yeah only load the stem, that will be clear in manual, that is the chamber, full glass, fully removable, fully cleanable. There is a way to make this work with bowl loading but not here in this model really. You can still drop pinches or crumbs in the stem bowl, just put Zion on it upside down for you first hit maybe if you're not using the suck up your herbs like a straw method to pack em in there.

@darkrom emails will be sent to give you an idea of timeframe next week, you jumped in rather late right? It was never possible to ship 100 units in October, realistically it was always just when production and shipping would begin. You shouldn't worry about 2016, I'd just plan for November, its slow to ensure quality, then ramped up. 2016 is for full scale, 200 units is more than enough to get us through the rest of 2015, trust me buddy patience will pay off

And @RastaBuddhaTao amazing what we've been waiting for, sure its been nuts and still is. Looking forward to catching up. And that production Zion is smooth as silk baby! Truly exceptional body, so sleek and tight, perfect fits all around! Proper evolution for sure

And now there's a mini stem? Is it essentially the same stem for the single battery unit? Nice idea to offer it for Zion as well, 3 sizes drop down menu is perfect. Don't forget to add that a medium stem is included with Zion on its product page (and that batteries/charger are not), and will it be a long stem as well, or option of long stem or short stem or second medium stem for all orders? Either way just a quick line at the bottom of the product description saying that should help a lot for now.

Also will there be a drop down menu for the batteries, to choose 2900mah LG or 2500mah Samsung (aka yellow or blue?)

Finally the description should include a note about shipping, just how its rolling etc so new purchases have a time frame (like that current orders are now expected to ship towards the end of November or something...

Just quick thoughts on what needs to get up there while FAQ et al is in the works
