Discontinued Zion vaporizer

I got an email saying the parts for repair (the "stays on" issue) have arrived. Looking forward to the re-union. It was a real sweet 2 days we had together before The Great Heating of 2017. This waiting game is no prob after the first 2 years; in fact maybe I should be thankful for that. I might be kindof cranky about it otherwise.

It's all good...

I have a battery question. Maybe @KeroZen might want to weigh in. What happens if you do not used a new matched set of batteries?

Said another way, I got a Zion and I am not the original owner. I have been using LG HG2s that were previously used with a Milaana. Whenever I use them, they are the same type of battery and they are fully charged but I have a bunch of them haven't been using any of them as a "set." I was re-reading some of this thread and it has been suggested that I should get a new set and always keep those two together. I have always thought that my Zion was a little slow to heat up (compared to my Mi) but I thought that it was just from being one of the older ones. I don't think that it is a max temperature problem... it just takes a while to get there. Could that be the cause?

Zion is slower than Milaana, at least in my experience. But this more gentle aspect is what allows such an incredible vapor quality and preserving the taste so long into the session. Hmmmm that goodness, just talking about it makes me want to have a bowl but I'm not at home...

Yes it's best to use a matched pair, but it's not the end of the world either if you don't. Use your HG2 cells but watch the voltages closely at first. If you end up with a wide difference in resting voltage at the end it can be problematic. For instance if you end up with one at 3.2V and one at 3.4V when they both started at the same voltage, it's a sign they would not make a good pair.

Pairing is nice but even when doing that, cells can age differently and minute differences in their internals can make them drift apart. So I would advise anyone to check their resting voltages from time to time to see if there's a large unbalance. Even working pairs can take different routes and need to be separated.

Ideally you would want to pair them by IR (internal resistance) regardless of their age. Don't see these pairings as static, that's the mistake. It's all dynamic.

I know my Zion is close and I was wondering, recommended cells are the same as for Milaana? I'm gonna order 2 pairs and was thinking about VTC5, my favourite with Mi but I know this is a different beast. What do you think mate?

Amazing, she surprised me and showed up at my doorstep today. What a beauty! I have to admit my first run with her didn't go as well as I had hoped. I need to re-read this thread discussing heat settings for the knob and play around with my drawing technique. I did have a milaana before this.

Nice wide open draw, clean screens, I think I just need more practice on it and get more acquainted to make a further decision on whether this one sticks or goes for me. Do you guys tend to feather/finger (hehe) the hole on the bottom to restrict airflow when drawing? I noticed that helped out quite a bit to get the restriction I like and throat hit I enjoy.

I HAVE done that, but once you get it down you shouldn't need to. Some find the draw too much (not me) and prefer to reduce the flow a little with dirty screens or @DDave reduced airflow mouthpiece. After a few days you will get a good handle of what she is capable of.

There have been a couple who parted with their Zions. For most it is a prized vape and for MANY, their favorite. I am in the last category, and I am still using a beta. :) I expect my production Zion to be one of the last delivered. If I like it as much as I like by beta I will be very happy. If I like it more than my beta, well, Mechanophilia could become a concern... ;)

Not giving up on this one yet. I let my Milaana go and this was her replacement. I love how it all snaps together and houses everything. You're right @cybrguy , I think once my screen gunks up a bit more I will not need to play with the air hole on the bottom. I'll have more time to get to know her next week.

I guess the logic is that it can no longer be ordered. Whatever, it's just a label. The thread isn't going anywhere.

cybrguy,

Do you know about the bird?
Well, it seems mine has bit the dust. Newly charged bats, zero vapor. Bummed. Oh well. Ryan will make it right. I will reach out tomorrow to them, most likely.

Thankful for my M, for sure. That thing kicks ass and never lets me down.

Not a ton to go wrong. Maybe double check the connections on the inside where the batteries touch?

Edit. Sorry to hear you having issues. That sucks!

It's that "Discontinued" tag, I'm tellin ya...

No, It's probably not. I hope it is something simple that will keep you from having to send it back. Waiting for the return hurts a little. :ugh:

Great that you have a backup you like. Certainly reduces the pain...
