Well that don't sound so good for the app, Was it the manufacturer you contacted for the app?
The app's in beta version, maybe it hasn't been ported to a modern os but I'm running vista in the vapor lab. I sent the email to the admin@zephyrvaporizers address.

App came my way but failed to install for some reason. Inquiry sent.

Also I got a chance to try the finishing grinder, holy moly I've never been so baked from a bag. I hadn't used my ion in a while and forgot to put the bag on after I started the pump for a few seconds, so it just got air for a bit and it still filled incredibly dank. I even forgot to finish it for a while lol. This ittie-bittie grinder itself is a trip, it's made to fit over an mflb but it fits over the ion's bowl perfectly (got lucky). I had to fill it twice with scs shred to make the ion bowl fill up 1/3 of the way but it was worth it. I mean really wow I never knew you could get so medicated from a bag, I can barely type. The finishing grinder made all the difference!

Always wanted to get the finishing grinder but never felt the need. If it improved your experience that much (I know most vaporizers like a fine grind), it's time to buy. My SCS has more of a coarse grind, a space case with a finer grind, I guess the mflb finishing grinder is a must have in any vaporizer arsenal. Thanks for sharing your experience.

No problem! I wasn't that sure that the finishing grinder was a good purchase when it arrived, it's so small!
I suppose everything mflb is tiny, I got an orb as well and its size also surprised me. But yes it made a huge difference, I had been grinding upside down to get a finer grind with my scs but this is way better

Anyone know what size tubing is useable on the Ion? I want to try to run it through an ice bong. For no other reason than why not lol.

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum but I am not new to vaping. I have recently acquired a Zephyr Ion and can say I am pretty pleased with it. I've used the classic volcano and can say that the Ion can definitely hold its own compared to it. There are some pro's and cons but for the price, I'm pleased none the less. I did a search on the web because I wanted a little more information about my newly acquired Zephyr and came across this forum. So after a few days of reading this thread, yes all 53 pages, I must say, Zephyr has went through some things to say the least, lol but I'm glad to see they are up and running again.

To the point, my step father has cancer and I brought it over for him to use and he loves it. I'm interested in buying a vaporizer for him. I'm considering the Zephyr Ion because its simplicity, ease of use, and the price but am weary after all the things I've read.

I have a few question for you guys;

1. Does anyone know if their service or customer service is still good and reputable?

2. Does anyone know if they have improved on their design and quality of the new units?

3. Would you guys recommend the Ion to someone with cancer? If not why? and if you could recommend a different vaporizer which one?

1. I think their service is now considered pretty good.

2. no real changes

3. yes, as a bag filler it is second only to the Volcano

  1. I feel they are great. I had no trouble getting questions answered.
  2. I think the units were left as they were, as with other Vapes of it's class, change is not always desirable.
  3. Yes, I would. I have an Ion out in the community here, with a lovely elderly couple, both infirm, one of them with Cancer.
She finds it easy to use, (they both do) in fact easier for arthritic hands than the Volcano, due to the tea cup grasp of the basket.
Their moods are elevated sufficiently from the levels of vapor provided by the bags, whose vapors are cool enough for lungs plagued by illness and age.
The Ion is a great tool.

1. When I contacted them I got a reply with in 24 hours. Although There was nothing wrong with my unit, I was just inquiring about the whip. They were extremely friendly and helpful.

2. I'm not sure about any improvements. Mines operates pretty flawlessly.

3. I would for the reason stated above. Its very easy to put the balloons on and off. Also with the ceramic heating you never have to worry about the heating element creating unintended fumes. I'm not saying its bad to have an aluminum bowl, but some people worry. So if that's at all in the back of your head, you can vape with ease with the Ion.

So after a coupla/few months with my ion I have no complaints, but have noticed a quirk or two.

I am under the impression that my ion extracts better from a cold start than it does when left on, wondering if anybody else has noticed this with theirs. I am also thinking that this makes more of a difference than the fine grind that I have been experimenting with. I have been unplugging it in between uses mainly because of the light, but I am starting to wonder if the standby mode affects this. Obviously more testing is required.

The mflb grinder fits perfectly in the ion's bowl but is still a pain, now I am just turning my scs upside down. I have also lowered my temp from the 440f (max) to 420, the abv is a bit lighter and the vapor is less harsh. I have started to use my old tripod bubbler, as I mentioned earlier ssv tubing fits the ion valve perfectly.

The only other thing is no matter how careful I am, it's still easy to not seat the bowl perfectly. This doesn't seem to bother extraction, but it makes a bit of a mess and probably adds to wear and tear on the gaskets.

Overall I am quite satisfied with my ion, it certainly cured my volcano envy

I like the whip. Used it a few times, twice with a friend. I even took the cap off once and used it with a bong. Its a little too hard to suck the vapor out though, so you need to use the fan.

I started using oven bags with the zephyr. I get them for about $2 each. It's super easy to install. Just zip lock the bag to the mouth piece and put the cover on, just like normal. I clean the mouth piece with rubbing alcohol at the same time.

The vaporizer was real helpful during the first week of recovery. My wife would just fill the bags and bring them to me, which is what I needed in a desk top vape.

so I was bored of tinkering with custom bags (been a volcano owner since 04) so I decided I was going to remove some screws..

oh how awesome it was inside, I penetrated the device and was able to manipulate so many options it is insane. obvious since they're isn't any UI (user interface) besides the LED you basically have to play with the board.

long story short - I'm able to setup favorite temps by setting one button as sort of an alternative key and the other as up/down.

I also was able to calibrate the actual heat to the LED read-out. Precision down to 0.05% degrees (heck the factory settings were perfectly alright at 0.5% which would be the difference between 100° and 101° very minor)

so I enjoyed tinkering enough that I soldered an USB into my Zephyr Ion.

I can also control fan speeds and warm-up times, but using faster warm-up times would obviously burn out the heating element a lot quicker but heck if you're interested in doing this it already technically voids your 2yr warranty as far as for me luckily I have other vapes to use.

so in a nutshell: if you know how to solder I can easily tell you how to make this $400 vaporizer into a $700 vaporizer. soldering is easy to learn also folks. YouTube can easily teach you.

P.S.
I am creating a program for some pals who also own a ZI so once they've done this it'll be easier for them to do instead of being a complete nerd like me and reverse engineering software/hardware.

thank you for reading and feel free to email me at jeremy[removethis]@hiphopDOTorg

@grokit

thank you sir. I ordered a herbalizer (http://www.herbalizer.com) and plan to do the same to it but I have many other vapes to test with also.

so, in everyone's opinion what is the BEST temp to burn the terpene first then the plant itself?

I have replaced the heating element in my ZI and the logistics board so I can set the temp higher. So far so good, all equipment should be able to handle my changes from the specs sheet for the ZI's hardware.

until the next vape... :argh:

That's an awesome (brave) idea IMO! When I got to use the Herbalizer for a day, I found its performance fast and accurate, but very underwhelming.. IMO it can definitely use a temp boost.. All that potential, and it isn't setup to pack a decent punch!?! :uhh: I never liked that they put that much under the hood just to keep it bottled up..

What you're doing sounds so interesting  I wish I could get into that kind of stuff, but it's waaay over my head  I'll just stick to looking out for your posts

@grokit @Buildozer I'm debating actually debating making a few videos. I don't know how big the modding vaporizers scene is but with the know-how it's not that hard, they're all just heating elements and fans with digital displays (bag vapes) not sure if all whip-kit vapes have digital displays or not, I know of a few that don't

@Buildozer why did you only get to use an herbalizer one day? friend had one?

@og, It was at the Herbalizer test drive.. ~15 or so FC members got to go meet the Herbalizer team and mess around w/ a few units.. IIRC it was just before they started selling them..

The thing that's mostly over my head is the tweaking the settings and programming etc.. That's totally foreign to me..

I think it would be good if you put some Mod videos out there
TBH I'm surprised how seldom DIY stuff seems to be in the vape community..

well I am also big into the iPhone jailbreaking scene and my computer knowledge helps a lot but I will put some vids out.

how long have you been on #FC or are yall located in same area? Since you said you didn't a meet and greet with the Herbalizer Team

@og

 I'll be on the lookout for your vids.. It should be interesting.

Anyone who lived close enough to them was invited to come try their vape.. So all the FC members at the test drive were from Southern CA.

If you click on avatars you can see how long people have been members here, etc.
