Discontinued Wychwood Vaporizers UK Log Vape

here for the chicks
Fred, I used to heat up my first under-performing UD under the blankets every day before I got a VV PSU, and I'm pretty certain I damaged the heating element with that. I know you have access to a multimeter so could you check if the resistance has changed perhaps? I also noticed the taste changed about two days before my UD finally died, like the heating element had already busted open. It left a metallic taste in my mouth those last two days and it made my throat feel a little sore too, but it were all very subtitle changes and you have to have very sensitive taste butts to even notice it. At first I just thought that I had caught a cold or something, but when my UD died a little later I realized it was the cause of everything. In those last two days my VV PSU also made a buzzing noise btw. It was still pretty new back then and I thought it was just craping out on me, but then my UD died and I tested the PSU with another appliance only to find out there was nothing wrong with it.

Not sure if this is helpful at all, but I figured I'd just share my experience, perhaps you recognize some of it.

Is it perhaps possible something shorted in your WW from overheating perhaps? The behavior of the LED you describe does seem to point to that, and the hotness of the metal plug you describe heightens my suspicion in that direction. Do you have another power cord you can try to eliminate that as a source of the funny LED behavior?

Good advice there OTA. For sure it's worth testing the unit as the excessive heat may have damaged the element. On the one I soak tested the element was intact and still worked fine, but that might not be the case for Fred.

@FMG. If you want to skype so we can get it sorted out just PM me your skype id.

J.R.R.Tokin',
I can confirm that the female portion of the socket on mine does get hot. Hasn't been an issue and I'm loving my unit, but yeah. I don't recall if my PD acted the same, and the UD had a plastic plug which seemed to stay cool.

Preface: I don't know if Cookie has already done this, and I hope he doesn't mind my posting of this.

I decided to use my handy infa-red thermometer go get a better look at the external temperatures of my WW vape.

You will see that the surface temperatures in the upper regions get quite warm where you would expect it. But you can see that south of the equator, the temperatures are much more mild.

The unit is very easy to handle in the lower half, while you can see that the business end of things is gettin' some serious action. Great job, Cookie!

Hey all. The sun has finally decided to show it's face in the UK and I've been making the most of it with beach days and BBQ nights :D Today was morning raspberry picking at a local P.Y.O farm (Pick Your Own) followed by a pub lunch washed down with a pints of ale.

Things have been busy on the Wychwood front too. I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone that has purchased a Wychwood so far. I've had quite few FC lurkers getting Wychwoods and also had a spate of Wychwoods being picked up locally to me by word of mouth.

I've been meaning to do so many things but never seem to find the time. I definitely want to do a few more instruction vids regarding the use of the different stems and general usage techniques. I also want to post pics of a few specials I have recently made that have been sold. I keep meaning to post them on my site for sale but they keep getting snapped up before I can! Also I need to make more wooden stems and specials for the website. I'll get round to it all ("he says hopefully")

Thanks for posting the body temps Stu. It shows what we've all experienced - the bottom section is fine to hold, the top a bit hot for comfort.

That's it for now :)

I'd love to see some pictures of your babies. Show us some WW porn. :brow:

FYI, I made a typo in the picture above. The middle of the top section should've read 173° F, not 176°. Not a huge mistake, but I mistake I had meant to correct for the record.

I second the request for more pics, show us some more of your work pls

Nice to hear that business is going so well already btw, lets hope it continues in an ascending line!

On another note:I just got word from Cookie that my Tulipwood WW is ready for shipment, so I'll be joining the lucky ones that got theirs before me soon now :brow:

Well, I've been using my WW for about a week, and am starting to get the hang of it. So it's a good time to post my fist impressions on it.

First of all, I've only been vaporizing for five months and this is my first desktop vape. I first got Eagle Bill's Shake & Vape, and even though it's a bit of a pain to work, I managed to get quite a bit of vapor from very small amounts, using the MFLB "sipping" technique. Now that I think about it, it was great training for the LB. A month later I got a VaporGenie Coil for $20 shipped. With a bit of practice, I got huge clouds with it, better taste, and more even ABV (just what you'd expect from convection vs conduction). The only trouble with it was that I had to use way more herb (to cover the surface of the chamber). Also, since I never managed to use it with a torch lighter, the wind often prevented me from applying consistant heat. This, plus the necessity of using a flame led me to buy a Launch Box, a month ago. As a home unit, I had been won over by the log vapes, so when Cookie started making the Wychwood I started saving up :p And boy, am I glad I did.

The WW is barely taller than the width of my hand and about as slim as two fingers together, which is a very confortable size. Though as a result, ii get pretty hot at the top, as Stu showed above.

@Stu: Did you make your measurements at 12V ?

Note that I live in France, so I don't have much access to quality herb. I usually get a cheap Thai strain (I think). I kind of like the taste though, and it gets me where I want to be. I've tried the WW with some of my friend's crop, and obviously it tasted better, and also lasted longer.

I have my WW on 12.8V 24/7 (2.05A -> 26.25W). Before a session, I kick it up to 13.5 (2.2A -> 29.7W) and take a hit. This first hit is very tasty, and I get a small cloud of vapor.

After the initial hit, I let it heat up for a couple of minutes and finish the session. The ABV is a light chocolate color. I usually stop at this point, and store it away ;). Or I can push up the voltage to 14V and get a dark chocolate colored ABV.

In any case, the WW vapes the herbs very evenly. As I have said before, I can't compare this with another home vape, but I don't think it gets much better. Just grind to a med/fine consistency, no need to stir.

I have tried some black hash and it seemed to work well, but I only did one session. I tried some ABV oil and it vaped very well. I just put a ball in the stem and top it off with some herb. I tried vaping oil only using two screens, but it was a stupid idea... The oil just melted on the sides.

I have the All Glass Tube and a maple stem in addiction to the silicone stem. The maple stem is my favorite, it cools the vapor down and the taste is nice. The silicone stem allows for huge clouds, and you can pack a lot it in. The All Glass Tube provides the best taste, but it's barely bigger than the heat port, so it's hard to make a seal around it. Eagerly waiting JRR's vid on this front.

What I love so far about this vape:
  • Natural look/finish; you can tell these are made with love
  • Clean taste; again I'm not vaping G13 or something, but the taste is consistent throughout the session, which is something I wasn't used to with my LB. It changes a little when the herb is turning brown, but remains very pleasant.
  • Short heat-up time; I sometimes need to unplug it, so this is a feature that I can appreciate
  • Vapor production; you can get anything from real tasty, cooler puffs to huge clouds of dense vapor. I don't own any glass but I made a bong with a plastic milk bottle, and witnessed the smooth vapors that have been fogging the pages of this thread :ko:
  • Variety of stems; in the end I like them all and use each of them differently
What I miss about it:
  • I can't take it with me.... Obviously that's not a fair critic, bu with it's size you just want to put it in your pocket.
  • It can get very hot
  • If I am with some friends, or if I want to take back to back hits, I have to turn up my VVPS to 14V or more
  • I can't vape oil only
It's funny how long it took me to write that second list compared to the first one... I tried hard to think of any drawbacks, but if you know what you are getting I think there are none.

I absolutely love this vape !

PS:

@JRR: Do you know the Dopecast from dopefiend.co.uk ? I listen to it occasionally, and the Dopefiend does a great job of reviewing vaporizers on his show. Perhaps you could contact him about the Wychwood ?

@Stu: Did you make your measurements at 12V ?

Yes.

BTW, I hope people understand that the reason I posted the temps was not so much to show how hot it gets in the top half, but to show how the temps in the bottom half are remarkably benign.

Your 2 amps reading must be off though Opalindays, these Ohmites shouldn't take more then 0,5A or so at that voltage.

You know the Amperage is measured in series instead of parallel, right?

Hey all. Sorry that I've been so silent recently. Lots of hassles to deal with atm with the day job. I've been decorating the flat too and getting my work room into a more functional order. Plus that weathers been amazing so I've been beach bumming :smug:

I haven't had a camera for a few weeks now so some of the specials that I was really hoping to photograph went out without me being able to :( But I've spun a few more and should get my camera back for the weekend, and then I'll get snap happy.

Thanks for the review OpalinDays. I'm glad you've been enjoying your WW. Have you tried the cotton wool trick to vape oil on it's own in the stem? Thanks for the heads up about Dopefiend. I do know of him and might try and make that happen. Did that replacement piece ever arrive for your wood stem?

I will check back in with some pics as soon as possible.

Nice to hear you enjoyed the weather, cookie ;) I did to.

I did try the cotton trick on the last drop of oil I had.
I didn't really managed to vape it, but I think used too much cotton. I got some taste though, so I think if you do it right it can work. I'll try again as soon as I've made some more oil.

The glass piece arrivedwithout issues, thank you! I wanted to send you an e-mail when it arrived but I forgot. The silicone part is a bit torn, but still makes a seal, so I was able to reassemble the wooden stem. The bad news is that now I broke the glass tube  ... I usually kept it in my hand between hits, but this time I thought I had managed to secure it on the heat port, and it fell off as I was setting the WW down. So now I'm using the wooden stem almost exclusively. I love how cooler it feels on the lips, and there is no risk of it falling off.

Sorry to hear about the glass stem breaking :( but glad to hear that the wooden stem is treating you well :) Oil definitely works well in the WW using the cotton bed - you know what they say "practice makes perfect" and in this case it's great fun too!

Hello everybody,

I received my new WW to replace a little mishap on my behalf that ended up costing me the unwelding of the center metal tube.
I, must say, that i ended with a better WW instead, a little thinner, with a curvy shape and a very secure center tube, it seems Cookie is exploring a bit more and i sure like it!
I want to thank you here, again, for a wonderfull vaporizer that is just a pleasure to enjoy.

On a different note, me as well had a little mishap that costed me my glass stem. I was able to find a good substitute. For all of you who have both, the gn0me classing heating tube provides an alternative for the glass stem. This tube has now a cooling area for your vapor. hehehe.

Glad you got the new WW Vorange and are liking it. It's definitely a bit curvier then your first one. Gutted to hear about the stem though - time for a wooden one maybe ;)

I got given a large tube bong a few weeks back by a mate going back to Australia. It was used for combustion so I gave it an extremely thorough cleaning before using it and I must say I have really been enjoying the large size. I just got a diffused downstem for it too to make it even better.

Anyway, as I really liked the bigger size I decided to get myself something a bit nicer with some size to it - here's a video of my new Magic Glass Squid Perc paired with a Sycamore Wychwood - great combo :D

I've also done a vid about screen changing for the various stems - I'll post it once it's uploaded later.

Hello folks,

I am very excited to share the news that a WW lovely piece has just arrived Banana Republic!
Gosh I am really surprised how fast it flew down here, and my first impression when the doorman gave me such tiny box (almost an envelope) is that it had just the stems and stuff and that the log vape would come in another package. But there it was, so gorgeous lines on the wood, I loved it! Took some pictures and did not have time to test it yet, but can admit I am quite puzzled with the stems and stuff

I've also done a vid about screen changing for the various stems - I'll post it once it's uploaded later.

There he comes to save me! Thanks J.R.R.! I am quite pleased and happy with such beautiful piece, bro!! Guess it's just missing to make it work to fall in love with it ;)
Will soon then share some review on its usage.

Here some first pics:

Oh that's not too tall, that's only about 2 inches taller than my Ehle.

Is the rude boy that tiny if you experience this one as large?

How accurate is your British tracking btw? They say it's out for delivery already, but I find it a little hard to believe. Do I go out to shop for groceries now, or should I stay home just in case..?

Man definitely was not made to wait :ugh:

Not sure f it works the same in NL, but with international stuff here the tracking usually carries over to the domestic carrier (TNT?) but often with a new number (it auto updates it here when you enter the original number). The tracking updates much quicker/more accurately on the systems of the destination country than it does the country which sent it. The UK one might just be saying that it's out of their hands- given to the dutch company that will deliver it. I reckon you should check tnt tracking

I will get a pic or vid with them both side by side - but yes the Rude Boy is very small to me.

Sorry about the tracking too I gave you the wrong one  Just PM'd the right one.
