Would I be far off from thinking that younger people with fresher inner body parts can handle dry rig use better...while we "more experienced" people tend to like the water because of the battle damage on the ol' pipes and air bags?

I would think it's the other way around, most of the younger crowd seems to be into water pipes, while the old schoolers still burn doobies; and many of their dads are still smoking from metal pipes!

You are spot on with that statement given my own experience! My buddy's dad only uses his hitter rod. He actually won an awesome water pipe at a medical march here in town and just gifted it to my buddy.... who is also my roomy. Too bad it is always too gross to use lol.

I think it's also a cultural thing. Bong rips are clearly representative of the US way of consumption to me. It's akin to binge drinking: big and as fast as possible. I'm always surprised in all the threads I frequent how many people seek to cash their bowl in one to three hits, where I enjoy taking upwards of 30 small hits for the same bowl quantity, and have it last in a laid back fashion.

It's also due to the fact in the US you guys don't mix with tobacco at all. So your bowls don't combust well unless you cash them fast (they tend to extinguish, whereas with tobacco it entertains the combustion) and that's true with or without water. In Europe we smoke way more spliffs than we use glass pipes and bongs.

For sure, where I live we also use bongs, but it's mostly teenagers who are still learning what parsimony means who do. It's not "civilized" nor social. It evokes addiction and needing to go hard and also selfishness (quite the contrary of a spliff which you are socially expected to share with everyone in the room) Nobody of my age around me uses them anymore.

I definitely enjoy using water more often than not! It was not always like that though. I was using a 1.5 foot, beaker base bong for a very long time. It worked well with my CF, but I always noticed there was a certain "kick" that I was not getting. I recently got a VapCap and immediately noticed a distinct lack in potency while running it through this bong. I went and bought a much smaller bong (it's a dab rig that I further rigged with the fat mouth piece hahaha), and now there isn't a huge difference in potency or flavor. I think the primary problem with the beaker base is the quantity of water, which I infer provides more surface area for that sweet beep beep to get lost.

I may have picked the wrong crowd for that last line, but hey my first post!

that was my conclusion as well.. I only use a smaller bubbler (Fab Egg) made for dabs with my vapes...not a lot of water or tall stacks to milk ETC... keeps flavor longer and pulls the vapor very well...

When I first came to FC and started vaping, one of the most enjoyable threads to read for me was the glass thread. Loved seeing all those pieces (I had stopped using mj in my mid 20's so was well disconnected from the culture). So of course I had to pick up a couple of pieces. I did indeed enjoy them, but I can't use them due to discretion concerns. I have to get them out when there's an opportunity, use them, clean them then store them again. If all I have is a few hours, it's not worth the hassle. So I'm pretty much all dry all the time.

But no denying from my experience that the vapor diffusion gained through glass (with water or without) gets me more stoned. I have to be careful. A solid hit through a water tool can leave me walking in circles wondering who I am for an hour. Even the tiny DDave diffuser for the milaana adds stoniness to my hits. Too bad its an extra step or two to use it / store it. With kids around and a wife who's understanding but not a user herself, I'm all about ease of use and stealth. Good thing that good convection vapes provide both things as well as outstanding flavor and excellent user control.

To add more sociability of 'Bongs' i'm looking for glasses more like hookah style, with 2-4 hoses :lol::cheers::party: I think it would be a nice Combo with my Herborizer XL, which is kind of a macrodoser and well suitet for group sessions.
Following model comes close to what i mean. it could look more heavy and cooler though. This one ist called Party Bong from Black Leaf

Never was a bong guy and find water.............waters down vapor regards taste and potency.
I agree.
My meds taste watered down... weaker.
Also after one or 2 hits I can not stand to get near the water piece for the smell of water that has had meds pass through it.
I tried rezz block, and cranberry extracts, and I have same issues.
Also, I see the goo/residues floating around, and get a feeling of being cheated... Those residues belong in me.
Using rez block and cranberry extract I feel less medicated.. than even the lower levels I feel using water.
I think it is because the rez block etc..... absorbs some of the "goo", making it even less retrievable than that lost in a water piece with plain water.
Lifelong fan of meds, but have an aversion to cleaning a water piece also.
I must wear a mask, and get Iso in there immediately to avoid the scent of "used water".
Maybe I should of had a poll as well. Like showing age groups and water rig vs dry rig use.
Dry rig use all the way here... and I am 67.

I am a dabber, and I tried a dry rig for a day Yesterday. The flavor was stronger, but man, so was the coughing. I dab at 560 off of a obsidian insert by CCA, and using a piece with no water made my dab feel like running a marathon with one leg. Today I am wheezing and feel sick. In my opinion my sensitive lungs now require water filtering on e-nail style dabs. I can, however, hit a sai all day without too much irritation. I use low wattage and pulse the button, keeping it low T and tasty. My throat gets coated in phlegm if I use nothing but the Sai for a whole day. The only way I can dab and stay without any irritation is if I stay sub 540, and then the dabs are not very satisfying. I have resigned myself to pain, but I try to minimize it....

Yes. With smoke, you want more water, and multiple water chambers on a larger bong to wash more shit out of the smoke. With vapor it's just the opposite, in my humble experience. With vapor, you want minimal perks, meaning just one, with minimal diffusion (larger bubbles, like a downstem with one or two holes at the water end). That's what I mean by saying that it's the opposite with vapor glass as combustion glass. With combustion glass, I always went bigger with more water and more perks that split the smoke into as many tiny bubbles as possible. With vapor I go for minimal size glass (to have less surface-area to loose condensed vapor and flavor to), as well as minimal amount of water with minimal diffusion into said water (also, to save flavor and to lose a little less of the vapor and lower-temp terpenes that add to the flavor).

For example, I just posted this piece of glass that I received in the mail today in the Dynavap Vapcap thread that I bought as a little 10mm banger-hanger shredder for small-personal use of concentrates, to save flavor more than my larger recycler rig with all that water and chambers. The tiny amount of water is perfect for my Dynavap M, and it retains a lot more flavor than the other larger glass pieces that I've used with my Dynavap vapes. I highly recommend a small, minimal piece like this, for vapor.

With vapor through water, always think smaller!

I have a Solo OG, Milaana OG, Lil' Bud, and a bunch of vapcaps. I use all of them except my Lil' Bud through water at some point. Right now, because of allergies, and how hard they hit, I use my vapcaps through water 100% of the time. I'm not sure I see that changing. The vapcap has always caused me to cough the most, but it's also my hardest hitting vape, so I wanted to find a pathway to using them. Water was it for me.

I find that taste really isn't diminished much-there's typically way more goodness on my lips when I use a bong than when I go natively. And I get way bigger hits so I get higher. When I combusted I used a bong for the same purpose-bigger hits to get higher.

A 'typical' day for me is to start things off with my Solo OG natively at temps in the 374f-383f range. Later in the afternoon I may pull out the bong and use the Solo at 410. Watching the news I'll typically have a stem on either my Lil' Bud or Milaana, and then later in the evening I start using a vapcap-all but one of mine are set up to use with water, and that's an '18 M I keep for using out and about.

Strings.....you are like me it seems....vapcap is the one that is hard to pull directly off it without water. And the water allows me to taste more with all my vapes. Though.....I can deal with my argo and a small jhook when I cant use water.....which is rare.

Seems so. I typically have no problems with my Solo OG natively at <=393F but once I hit 401 or 410 it needs a WP. I love my LB natively, but I've got a 3.5" stem with 1" glass mouthpiece that seems to help cool the vapor. But there's no way I could do two stems back-to-back on the LB without irritation.

And I'm okay with that. I work from my house so using water is easy, and just works better for me. In fact I use water way more now than when I combusted, but I think that's true for many of us.

Vapor is dry and hot, and if you're using something with a short vapor path like a vapcap then you're more likely to get particulates when you inhale-water filters those out while cooling and moisturizing the vapor and makes the experience so much more enjoyable for me.

Having a vape without water tonight after a while of using water exlclusively as i was feeling too lazy to get the bong out, and i'm now feeling like a water pipe is a standard part of my vaping rather than a treat as i saw it before.

Mostly due to how my chest feels now. Flavour is still best dry, but the overall experience is improved by water, for me at least.

I used to prefer water, but in the last year or so I've switched to dry. I notice dramatically better flavor and also my herb seems to last longer.

Occasionally I'll dust off a water piece for a session, but always notice the downgrade in flavor/potency, so return to vaping dry.

Even when a water-pipe is clean, theres a particular "vape water" smell that builds up very quickly, like after 1 session. Its not a particularly bad smell, but it does mix with the flavor of the vapor. That particular "vape water" smell now reminds me of Amsterdam, because I was vape-bonging 24/7 when I lived there.

I don't like cough-inducing, overly hot vapor. Vaping dry doesn't automatically mean a sore throat. If anyone is having this problem with dry vapor, you need a longer mouthpiece/cooling device.

I mostly use sherlock/steamroller glass, or just long glass mouthpieces. Sometimes also use my bongs/bubblers without water.

I notice it too, especially with my convection vapes . My dab rig takes a lot longer to build up any off flavors. And even when it does start tasting like reclaim, it never really gets as bad as one flower hit would make it.

I noticed too, water after one session smells awfull (I only vape flowers, mainly convection)

Differently and worst than reclaim IMO

Maybe a combination of terpens oxydation with microbial development?

I believe it's caused by water filtering burnt sugar fumes and the combustion of other non vaporizables present in the dried flower. Also probably oxidized water soluble terpenes and chlorophyll degradation, and likely some microbial stuff going on too eventually as we all know how nasty a water pipe can get.

I started noticing with my flowerpot, that my oil hits would taste good but as soon as I did a single flower hit from the same rig, everything would taste contaminated.

certainly a lot of chlorophyll in the left over vaped through water... while using a bottle to pour it into it was green hued and smelled like Grass. But, mostly vape water smells like a lipid took a Shit in there

I just use the rosin press lately to easily remove that exogenous plant material. I think the ancient cultures understood this with their empirical wisdom and hashing traditions.

I find rosin really just combines all of the classic hash making techniques into one - heat, pressure, and separation.

do you know what pressing so hard does to the plant cells ? it would certainly burst their bubble so to speak

Some said the same about juicing but Max Gerson cured many cases of cancer with those bursted bubbles. There probably is some misunderstood underlying metaphysical implication that results as a consequence but that's half the fun of this alchemy :brow:

Interesting info all....thanks for your knowledge and opinions/experiences.

I only use flower, but also only use distilled water and clean my glass rigs regularly.

I also think there are some elements in flowers that have either pesticides or other additives that may add to things developing in the water/walls. I have been getting stuff that is "organic" and grower is one of the top in the country.

I have noticed my rigs stay much cleaner with their flowers than the various others I had gotten in the past. I also notice much less smell after many uses. The smell was bad not long after when I was not using the distilled water and other growers flowers.
