Who dabs ABV Oil?

Man.... my bronch's would explode :o

I can't take ABV extracts personally, to me it has a taste of dirt and just burns of harshness.

No doubt that there's still actives in the mix, so I guess if you can handle the hit... all the power to ya ;)

my oil is pretty dark, when dabbed its way more harsh than quality stuff. But thru that piece...it dosent matter you can dab anything and its a smooth hit, i can take WAY bigger dabs now adays. I also do a terrible job filtering my oil but this stuff fully melts still and isnt too bad. considering my abv is pretty nice to begin with.

first batch i ever made, dabbed it on a quartz nail, tasted like some grease from the taco shop, like corn chips, ugh. Super stoney high.

this stuff tatses way better it was a shorter wash, higher quality abv aswell, makes it much more bearable with a nice muscle relaxant type of high. did i mention free dabs for life? :) it gets old....fast but is nice in a pinch!

Yes, I remember it was quite a muscle relaxant type buzz (good for pain), but I just couldn't get past those issues I mention.

My ABV was the same, sounds like, with lots of green left in it since I usually stop vaping it once the flavour is gone.

<added> ps: your fritted toy looks like it would sure help with it's diversion.

How many grams of ABV did you use and what was your yield? I want to do this but I only have like a gram and a half of ABV.

like twenty? didnt weigh it, just filled that little dabber dish up quite a lot, and its pretty big. i didnt use nearly enough iso as i needed(wasnt almost enough to saturate all the way), i used 70 percent stuff too and washed for about 20 seconds. stems were in the mix too.

Me too! dab on brother! :) I make mine from bho though and then do the ethanol extraction as well. it really gets me a better product this way.

but I totally support turning your ABV into some kick ass oil! :p I find it's nutty, and more harsh than normal oil. but still great :) + if you are dabbing this. then go vape some normal bud (something with more THC and less of the others compared to your ABV oil) and you will really be on cloud 9!

I once had the same opinion of butane...or lack of knowledge in my case...A quick look at a MSDS for butane may aid in allowing you to become friends with the 'tane...Join the light side!

here are some butane MSDS's from various sites, via our friend google.

Either way, ABV Hash oil rocks...in either sense (hash oil made from ABV, or Already Been Vaped Hash oil (reclaim from dabbers, pieces, etc... :) )

Also, I'm going to assume that at least for the near future, you'll probably continue to use ISO...if so, next time try doing a <10 second soak...along with perfecting your method(s) of filtration. This could improve you're product a decent amount. Yet, it's still gonna be made from ABV, and only so good. My best ABV QWISO washes have been ~5-8 seconds, in a french press
6a00e552792fa2883301287647980f970c-pi.jpg
then straining from the french press into a organic coffee filter, which is sitting in a ordinary SS kitchen strainer, careful to make sure the liquid stays in the coffee filter. I let it drip into the pyrex below, and the rest you know.

Just my :2c: and as I said, ABV oil(or anything) FTW!

i like to sacrifice some quality (its abv who cares?) to just get real high return.... so is 30 seconds still too much at that point am i just overkillin it? that french press would help....

I understand on the quality vs quantity, especially being ABV, it's not much worry...but the extra weight in it isn't getting you medicated...

When I did my fresh nug qwiso runs, doing anything more than 15-20 seconds produced undesirable results, IMO. I started doing 10-15 seconds soaks with a bit of agitation. I also froze my flower for a couple hours ahead of time to help lock in the chlorophyll/waxes, etc...heard that helps.

Like the old saying, measure twice, cut once; you can make oil from the ABV'd herb more than once,if the first result doesn't yield...but it should. What I would do, is try a less than 5-10 second wash, with pre frozen ABV (not sure if it'll help with ABV but it's worth a shot if ya want) and find a way to get the ISO out of the bud as soon as your time is up...

instead of a french press (less than 30 on amazon, where I got mine) you can use two plastic cups, like solo cups, with holes poked in the bottom of one. use a rubber band to hold a coffee filter on the bottom of the cup with the holes. When you've shaken your mix in whatever you shake in (jar, etc) for 5-10 seconds, pour it into the solo cup with the holes/filter, and use the other cup to squeeze the bud down, and get the ISO out. Do this over a coffee filter, that is is sitting in a strainer, like I described.

Here's where the "measure twice, cut once" deal equates. After doing the above, let it evaporate, and scrape it up. Hopefully, you'll get a nicer looking product. You may get a similar looking/tasting product, but that weighs less...this means you've lessened the crappy un-needed stuff...do another wash and see if anything comes out that's worth dabbing. Eventually, you'll know how long of a wash, for the type of ABV you have. Worst case scenario, you'll get little to nothing back, which means it's still in the ABV, and you can do another wash. IMO, any of the above are better than just getting a guaranteed dark/not as concentrated oil.

This thread on GC shows a wonderful screen setup, and it's where I got my idea. I do the same as shown in that tutorial, but I dont put the additional screens on top. Just one strainer, with a coffee filter in it...organic(un bleached)

One drawback to the french press, is a decent amount of material, especially if ground, is needed to ensure that you get a good press (get all the ISO out) IME, at least 7g of fresh sativa (not very dense) to get a good press. Otherwise, the press won't reach far enough, as the glass container is rounded at the bottom slightly, keeping the press from touching the bottom.

No problem! And yup, that's what I've decided :) My process has evolved, and so has the product...I wouldn't go back! Like learning how to cook, and not burn the food (as I sit here eating burnt manicotti  )

This is all very good info IMO!

Yes at least please use Everclear if you can instead of ISO...Though pure ethanol also mutes into undesired sugars you do not want to dab... The tane is really a good extraction solvant when done correctly IMO!

I love my french press also, but if your going iso you need this. And listin to the man, get you technique down and move fast. You move fast enough, and i've pulled some impressive amber !! It comes with 350 micron filters, tons of them i stack them. and it uses air pressure, its pretty much a huge syringe. Oh and it makes one hell of a cup of coffee !!! Str8 to the plate. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZD3QJC/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00.

Just wanted to share, I was able to add some d-limonene to some iso/reclaim and clean it up. 2 things precipitated out of it. Some sandy grit that filtered out and 1 nasty tar ball. The re-purged oil is a lot nicer. I hit this oil and it looks better, tastes better, behaves better, performs better in the nail and also has a very nice effect. So far I like d-limonene. Here is a pic lit from beneath:

Could you explain how it tastes better?
Is the limonene just helping you refine the oil, removing contaminants and their associated crappy taste, or is it adding its own flavor to it? (or both:tup:)
(isn't that the stuff puregold is apparently adding to make it taste more lemony?)

That's interesting t dub wonder what it was that the orange oil removed? Pure gold says their process involves like 40 steps to remove all the different contaminants I wonder if this is one of them. For the one with limonene added they just wouldn't finish the evap....
