I just wanted to say to the dude who said Obama could do some descheduling in 2017, he will be out of office by then.
The november 2016 election decides his successor.
It will be an interesting time. So many pot states with more joining it will be the people's issue that will be brought to the president's attention. I think.
Sure I could think our systen is bought and sold, but considering how this two party system aggravates an issue and blows it up to keep it on everyone's mind, I don't see pot stopping or slowing down even if all media attention is drawn away.
And our popularly elected leader, yeah right, should pay attention to the issue once the people have spoken. That is why I think that regardless of the party of the next president, something will be done regarding pot to please the populace.
It is something that was pushed away too hard and the people spoke back by it being so common it was basically an arrest all of us if you can.
That credit must go to the men and women who brought MMJ as a bill to the senate's attention here in CA. Before my time but thanks and I look forward to seeing what happens come elections.
Obama will be president into 2017, same as any president who doesn't win the election of the previous November. He'll be president until a new one is sworn in on 1/20/17. The "lamest" of lame duck moves are almost always made in January after the election. Did you think we go without a president from November election to inauguration?
On one of your other major points, I think it's a fair estimation that a Ted Cruz, Chris Christie or most other possibilities for Republican nominee will not be as easy on MMJ or recreational laws as the Obama Administration has been. A Republican win of the White House in 2016 will definitely set things back a bit. The only question is how much. After another 4 years of hopefully increased MJ use legislation (2020 election), it may not be easy to roll things back, but think any Republican Administration from current known players will at least have some negative impact.
Not saying Democrats are that much better than Republicans on many issues (and worse on some), but on this one you should really get a grip on who you friends are if it is important to you. And, pray that Republicans don't take back the White House any time soon. Better yet..... register and fucking vote! Not just once every four years, either. Congressional votes are every 2 and primaries matter quite a bit in many states and congressional districts.
@grokit , really hope you're right! Though I doubt a pardon on Fed MMJ detainees is coming even that soon, and REALLY HOPE the rescheduling of MJ is in the past by that point - doubtful as I am.
Back to the original question... I think Alaska will be next, but am really looking forward to DC (state or not!) allowing recreational, so all of us on the east coast can get in on the action. Colorado is a long drive!
Small edit at top so as not to be a dick! Sorry about that
