Which States Will Legalize Next?

Cool! Very glad to hear you're registered and even more so that you vote!

2 party system is a bitch, and leaves us with some serious shitty mess as both parties can often be bought by the same contributors. But, it is what we have to work with in the devolved political system we live in.

It is definitely a big issue, but that is also firing up opponents as much as supporters. The real problem here is that opponents generally vote more regularly in every state. Check the polls in articles of any of these news stories and notice how much importance they give to older and younger voters. Older voters (most often against MJ legislation) vote at rates easily twice as much as those under 35, even though registration figures aren't nearly as skewed.

We've got to be informed, diligent and getting all like minded people registered and voting if we want to see all of this move forward as quickly as possible.

Obama will be president into 2017, same as any president who doesn't win the election of the previous November. He'll be president until a new one is sworn in on 1/20/17. The "lamest" of lame duck moves are almost always made in January after the election.

If we the people... Elect the wrong candidate to the presidency, we can possibly expect the whole MMJ AND recreational MJ house of cards to come crashing down around us. MJ is still illegal according to Federal Law. This Golden Age of MJ can be over in half a heartbeat if we get another Ronald/Nancy Reagan dynamic duo elected. All MJ users, medical and otherwise, are fighting the same battle: Federal decriminalization of MJ. Just because you are a "medical MJ user" means NOTHING in the eyes of the Federal Government. We are ALL criminals in their eyes. Those are the eyes that need opening. We, as MJ users will have a louder and more effective voice if we are all saying the same thing. "End MJ Prohibition"! For everyone!

MMJ on is Florida's ballot on November 5! This is the "foot in the door" that we need!

Don't think it's about the pharma co's. If so, they would have trounced all over MMJ back in the mid 90s. But, do think it's not a good idea to put it on the ballot any time other than a presidential election. Stoners aren't known for their voting prowess and it will take all of the folks that only come out every four years to get it over the top. Alaska is a bit different with such things than most of the rest of the country, so think it sill pass there.

And, If CA is anything like CO, they'll still be plenty of black market sellers once it's legalized. Taxes are sure to be pretty high. Would you rather go to a store where you'll be asked for ID and likely videotaped to pay $400 for a good oz, or go to the same guy you have been for years and get the same for less than $300? CO is trying to figure out how to deal with this now. Fortunately, I don't think anyone is suggesting you keep your receipt in your stash. Once you have it - who's to say where you got it?

Well CA has had medical for a long time. Like in CO before the recent events, medical serves as a sort of de facto legalization since it's nothing to get a doctor's recommendation letter. So we are used to high grade medical stuff, and the black market prices are to a great extent a function of and adjunct to dispensary prices.

Seems like that's the case. Things always work out pretty well when I get the chance to visit out there. But, living in non MMJ territory usually just leaves me jealous of you lucky dogs!

You're very right about this, as I myself, live in LA, and REFUSE to pay overpriced dispensaries $40/8th for weak grade MJ, when I can easily go to my neighbor's house and pay the same amount for 4 grams of weed at a higher THC content level.

Uruguay, which recently legalized cannabis in its borders, is setting their marijuana prices at $1 gram to try to stop this idea of having a black market.

I took some classes at Oaksterdam U and tried cultivation in small grow tents indoors. This is really, really worth it for supplying your own meds (including excellent ice water hash). There is some upfront investment of two or three grand in equipment and supplies. Current energy rates and the market structure in CA at least make it somewhat difficult to make money selling what you grow but for your own use (or maybe a small collective of family members or friends with cards) this is very economical, fun, and legal under CA state and local law (the feds generally leave small medical grows alone as long as they are well below 99 plants - not that that standard makes any sense: a plant can be half a pound or half an ounce). There are a number of good books out there, Ed Rosenthal's Marijuana Growers Handbook for example, is a good place to start.

On my last trip to Colorado, I found the prices at some of the medical dispensaries to be quite reasonable for the product offered. I've gotten herb there for less than $200/ounce that EASILY would go for more than double that here on the black market in Chicago. The first dispensaries in Illinois are expected to open in early 2015. I'm hoping prices will be reasonable, because top shelf stuff in Chicago is REALLY expensive...$400-500/oz.

I'm off today on a train trip to the legal state of Colorado. A good friend of mine lives about a 30 minute drive from Aspen. Fortunately, he has access to medical. Seems like the recreational prices are still pretty high. If all goes well on this trip, I'll be moving to Colorado next summer. Since vaping on an Amtrak train is not a good idea (get caught and the next stop is yours!), I've made some Canna Coconut Oil brownies to beguile the tedium of the journey.


EDIT: No, I'm not in coach. It's a 24 hour trip...my poor middle aged body would never make it. I got a great deal on a "roomette" sleeper.

The state of New York could legalize marijuana for recreational use as early as 2015.

State Sen. Liz Krueger (D) will reintroduce the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act during the next legislative session, which begins in January, her office confirmed to The Huffington Post on Monday.

Well I read measure 91 and it looks pretty solid. It leaves the current medical system in place, with key advantages that I need, while basically turning over cannabis regulation and production to OLCC. The arguments in favor are well established and many. The arguments against are all FEAR based, with some lies thrown in for good measure. They basically are:

• OMG the kids will have access to MJ gummies that parents will leave around the house!!! Kids can eat enough of these to die!!!
  
• Idiots will blow them selves up making extracts with 'tane!!!
• Nobody should have that much pot!!!
• People will drug and drive.
• Stores will be selling pot laced gummy bears and cotton candy!!! Save the children!!!

I'm sure glad I live in Washington State. I just heard the 2 legal pot stores here in Vancouver, Washington (the lessor of the Vancouvers) are flush with product. I may mosey over and see wha's'up?
