It was late 1969 or perhaps in 1970. My first 'paraphernalia' purchase was something like this. A glass globe upturned on a shorter base, the oven was mounted lower near bottom of the glass. At the time I thought I was smoking; though I combusted certainly, perhaps then I did have my first vapor experience. .

Here's my very first vape, bought it new at a music festival out of curiosity circa 1996.
Strictly conduction heating--we're talking high technology here.
Marked down for the last day of the festival.
It's made of bakelite, and has no brand name.
The temperature is set with no adjustment.
Collector's item?
I still have it anyways...
Basically it's a small electric frying pan.
It works pretty good with fluffy hashish, that's about it

I ended up going back to my brass oney (
) until my MFLB, UD, DBV awakening.
God, a fucking brass one-hitter... all day, every day. Thank the various gods I ended up watching the series "Bored To Death" and became curious about vaping, "the rich man's pipe!"

My one friend and I loved it, and we immediately vowed to buy as many of these "vapourizers" as we could afford.

First vape I tried was the Volcano back in 2005-06 and I was very impressed with the flavor and high from vapor. Didn't want to splurge on the Volcano, so I bought a digital, no-name, flea market knock-off box/whip vape. It wasn't able to replace the Zig-Zags. One year ago a friend told me he could get some pre-filled e-cig carts. CE-4's with a strain name on them. I went through about a dozen of those. At the time I thought they were good. He also sold me a Vaporcone Elite. What a POS! Google searched " how to vaporize BHO without odor". I had already been making BHO since 2003. Now I very rarely combust. I never thought that would be possible!

Lol, I enjoyed reading through this thread, seeing where everyone started.
Having no friends that used vapes, I think I first tried to make my own vape using a lightbulb with minimal results (got a 'taste' but that's about it, no effects).
I then opted to buy a "Cheap" vape from my LHS out of curiosity in 2007. The round glass bulb pictured above was one option, and the other one (for around $100!) was an EasyVape knockoff vape with a digital display.
It was *ok*, but I never believed I was getting all the medicine from the herb (didn't know proper temperature settings, or even proper use of the vape!). Used it a handful of times, went meh and tossed it in a box, never to be used again.
Went back to combusting for 5 years, before my friend introduced me to his PAX. The taste wasn't great (already a spent load before he let me taste it), but the concept blew me away. Now we could have portable vapes??
In February of this year I purchased a DV Ascent after doing a bit of research (I passed over the Solo because I didn't like how it looked! boy do I regret passing that over!). On my first session with the Ascent - "HOLY HELL!!" - the taste was spectacular! I couldn't get over how much flavor there was. Honestly, it's almost too much flavor for the first couple draws!
After my Ascent failed one month after buying it, I decided to buy a new vape (ahh my VAS and GAS problems are still going strong). Purchased a Lotus vape in March (within 24 hours of my Ascent's death!) because I wanted something stupid simple with as few parts to break as possible!
I will say, after having used the Ascent for a month, I tried to use my EasyVape to satisfy my need to avoid combusting until my Lotus arrived. Despite intensive cleaning before using my EasyVape (even replacing the whip after my first hit), the taste was horrid! Needless to say I'll be GIVING my easyvape away to anyone who wants it ha ha
Note, I did do a head to head comparison with my friend's old (rarely used, unliked) Iolite vape and the results were amazing. The IOlite also had an unpleasant taste, especially when using at the same time as an Ascent with the same herb in both!

First vape I ever tried was the volcano and it was about 5 years before I actually started vaping. Supposedly right when the volcano came out I think I was 19 so this was 2002 or 2003. Then my first purchase was the da Buddha. Actually it was you @lwien that got me on the da Buddha over at grass city before I made it over here. I had actually ordered the vapir 5.0 and you had asked why when there were so many bad reviews etc.. Then you suggested the da Buddha instead and I could never thank you enough.
I have been through a bunch of vapes since. But the da Buddha was my only home vape for awhile. I blew through portables like they were going out of style lol. MFLB, Solo, vapor genie, PNP, inhalater, lotus, supreme, thermovape, and I think that's about it lol. Oh and I owned an extreme Q for awhile as well.
I now own the VapeXHale EVO and the lotus for a portable. I gifted the da Buddha to my gf.
