What is the purpose of a water filter attached to a vaporizer?

Besides cooling the vapor, what is the purpose of a water filter attached to a vaporizer?
Can it remove any remaining contaminants?

Good answers above, to which I'll add:

Ritual and placebo effect.

I wasn't psychologically able to give up combustion 100% until I was able to rip hits from my same old familiar water pipe. Once I got the adapter to hook my vape to my water pipe, though, then I was able to enjoy my familiar old routine, with the only difference being that I wasn't combusting any more. :)

As @puddleglum stated most folks are used to their routine with using cannabis. If you can include something familiar it might get you over the hump to be combustion free.

I use the water filtration so I can get to the higher temps that normally make me cough. I use my water tool at night with wax before I get ready for bed. That is my ritual here lately. We all get into habits that are comforting to us. The human body is adaptable. Remember our goal is to ..........

Ha ha, I find the hot air on some vapes can dry my throat/mouth excessively. I could simply sip tea/water/beer at the same time I'm vaping. But I still prefer the moisturizing effect of vaporizing through a bubbler.

Plus all the money I'm saving from fucking combustion has really freed up some cash for some sweet glass! :science:

I had stopped using water cause I thought it took something away from the vapor.... does it?

I don't know?

For a while I used Hot water..... there is a thread here about it.. Hot water is awesome but hard to maintain, without a hot plate. lol

Lately I actually been thinking of going back to water my throat is a little dry..
OK I tried a big Sub hit w/ water.... now I remember why I used to like ... Sounds like a bong hit...

But I still wonder if the water is just cooling the vapor to much and some of the good stuff is just wasted when it is cooled down in the water?

You do lose a little so the question is, is the benefits worth a bit of a loss?

For me, with my LSV, I like to switch it up..........sometimes with water, sometimes without.

I'm putting the kettle on for a couple very hot ( be careful and let it cool a little first ! ) water bongs... You think less is loss w/ hot water?

Yes, warm/hot water will reduce the amount of condensation and therefor reduce the amount of vapor lost

X2

I prefer warm water because it :
A. reduces the amount of condensation/ vapor lost / reduces the amount of flavor lost VS cold water
B. it also moisturizes the vapor much more than cold water.

A double winner. I don't always go to the trouble to warm it BUT have a small glass handy. I know to fill it halfway with distilled water (to keep the bubbler cleaner), microwave it for 30 seconds, pour into the bubbler, enjoy soothing MOIST vapor !!!

For bud I see it mostly being used to get bigger quicker hits since if most people follow through on their videos where they are showing off their vape bonging skills it seems they cough their ass off half the time trying to take in three hits or even a sessions worth of vapor in one hit, so I don't believe the 'smoothing out the hit' bit most of the time myself but believe it's the same reason we smoked bongs back in the day and that was to get Fucked up faster with bigger hits (even if you coughed up a lung every time) you couldn't take easily with just a dry bowl of joint.

Oil and wax seem a different scenario though and water filtration seems more of a real need, for me anyways.

Good post. Just like combustion where there are big hitters and flavor sippers, same with vaping and water.
I use water for SIPPING that flavor when vaping on high heat, to moisturize it so it actually feels good on my lungs and throat.
Others may use water to enable monster gonzo hits that result in a coughing fit, but that's a different style from my water use.
Different strokes....

Maybe it was just me, but I always thought the idea was to take the biggest hit you can WITHOUT COUGHING. Sure, coughing may get you a little higher (or high a little faster) but I always had too much of a love of breathing to make myself cough intentionally. And I appreciate that even more now as I look around at all the folks I know with varying levels of COPD.

I do think that's the Idea too.

Was Just thinking how people seem to forget how dense the vapor can get when they start milking pieces to get those money shots in videos and then try to clear 'em in one go. I do use my little water tools for sipping with no coughing when I have harsh product myself. I cannot hit wax dry in very many vapes without prolonged painful coughing fits. My flex mini rig or orbiter with warm water does the trick every time to smooth things out.

For me; a water pipe attached to a vape is what stands between me and a brutal throat infection, inflammation, painful coughing and tightness for 3-4 days after vaping, and severely uncomfortable and disrupted sleeping patterns for the week due to pain..

I can hit portables just fine without issues, but desktop vapes need to be water filtered for extended sessions otherwise it's too much strain on my throat :(

In case you get thirsty mid session and need a drink, let the bong water soothes your throat and soul....not so much your tastebuds.

HillaryClinton,
I think the idea is to cool the vapor down as it travels through the water and up the tube, before it enters your throat/lungs, allowing you to inhale more.

THC is not water soluble, but can still be trapped in a homogenous mixture with H20, so I suppose some is probably lost in the water.

I always had this idea that its not how much you smoke in one session, but how much you can intake at one time that determines duration and strength of my high.

Like if I take one huge dab (filtered through water) that makes me cough for 2 minutes straight I will be higher longer than if I sit at my computer and puff on my pax for 30 mins.
