Is the splinter on-demand vape?

The Splinter is on demand after an initial 5 second heat up per session. Does not get much better, its a cannon and my only complaint is it’s not very discrete by the time you place the Splinter on a Box mod and add a stem, also not very pocketable.

That is on demand, the difference between a log vape like e-nano is the log is not instant as you must wait for an initial heat up from cold. Splinter taking 5sec to preheat is not the same and is still considered instant, I just draw slow at first on RBT vapes so I don't even consider preheat time at all. Most on demand pure convection is also essentially instant, under 10sec warm up is instant to me at least... Session vapes take 20-45sec or more even, so they are rarely instant... And torch vape like StickyBricks is instant, VapCap not quite...

ok, i guess i am in a similar situation, albeit with already owning a firefly 2 (minus +). re the firefly i think i can say that the flavour really is good, but it deteriorates quickly (is this a general convection problem?) and, at least for me, the ff has a tendency to char my herbs before fully / evenly extracting, even with regular stirring. so i am in the market for a full convection uprade (? - or just suffering from vas which i guess really exists around here. help me?). i am very much an on demand user, no need for more than 1-2 draws at a time..
@shitsnacks: you own a lot of the vapes i am looking at, and am wondering whether there is one you prefer over the others? i am leaning towards the p80 (i do not own a mod, but am also not afraid of a necessary set-up for splinter or mist), but that is mostly going by intuition and the good reception the tubo received.
but maybe actual performance differences between these are very minor anyway?

Yes this is common for pure convection on demand, you must hone technique to get an even extraction and often need to stir. I will tell you that the Tetra P80 is a fantastic option for this, since everything is set up for you out of the box was consistent temp control and the heater also allows for quite even extraction with minimal technique. Stem based vapes are also easier and purer, though less portable... I do own or have tried almost every on demand pure convection vape available, these are top-tier!

Hi, I'm a day away from buying the Firefly2 + due to it being full convection.

I don't want conduction or hybrid
I also don't want a lot of smell

I want ease of use. As simple as possible. So far that brings me to the FF2+

The only 2 things I don't like about the FF2+ are ( the plastic mouthpiece ), and the fact that they won't tell you what that heating element is inside and my concern is regarding material heating up and fumes beyond my herb.

However, with that said I've been looking at some convection models and I have it down to these

FF2+
Nomad
Firewood 6
Milaan
Lil bud


What do you recommend above or something else?

If you care about low temp flavor, milaana and ghost mv1 fits the bill
If you want go big loads and rips, evo vapexhale and sticky brick maxx

I just want to grab a unit, stick some bud in, and within 20 seconds take a toke them put it down, then maybe pick it up again and take a toke ( on demand so it doesn't burn away )

I want to avoid unregulated too and anything that looks like it has parts that might give off fumes ( rubber oil rings, aluminium, plastic etc )

Ideally it should not be too big. No point lugging around a brick with me. I want portability, discrete.

At this rate i might just make my own LOL

Vapwood Timber Elite. It's regulated, on-demand, no butane, no plastic (wood, glass and stainless steel), and does exactly what you want; only faster. I got mine a couple weeks before Christmas and haven't put it down since.

Only downside to these large wooden vapes is they are large. so damn chunky. I like a slick looking, smaller vape but doesn't appear to be much out there on the market except the grasshopper and that appears to have issues according to folks on this forum and elsewhere. The timber elite looks like a person is sucking on a wine bottle its so damn big. lol

As for the milaana, I've scratched that off my list. "The glass stems are good for retaining at least some vapor flavor, though combustion remains a constant risk, so it’s a challenge to get through a session without burning the herbs. " Seems to much like that magic flight box. Lack of temperature control and possibility of combustion.

So far, despite the few downsides to the ff2+ im still leaning towards that

In the end it has been my least used vape ever and I wouldn't recommend it.

The solo 2 became my daily driver and will remain that way until on demand tech and batteries get improved.

Even though the solo 2 isn't on demand it still became my daily driver... Because the on demand vape I have vapes didnt cut it.

By the time I could get a good hit from my ff2 (convection warming up the bud enough to vaporize) I could already be puffing on my solo.


I wouldnt reccomend the ff2 to anyone. And the batteries are really bad.


Also the ff2 heating element is a metal coil inside of a ceramic dish with a ceramic lid that the ff2 sits above.. I took mine apart to prove that the opening of where the heating coil enters the ceramic is open to electronics. (Not very open but not completely closed.)


And before anyone chimes in and says my issues with the ff2 aren't cause by me not knowing how to use it. I've been in the game 10+ years now and love manual draw vapes... Except this one.

BTW original Air and Solo and Solo 2 at least all have an non isolated air path, so open to electronics and heating elements too... And pretty much every electronic conduction vape has silicone somewhere exposed even if heating element and electronics are not... Tough market!

Thanks for the link. Yeah, just as one reviewer said, it's exposed to the circuit board so chances are you breathing in fumes from there. Not much but a little over time could lead to health issues. I think there should be a breakdown for every single model on the market so we and see how they work, whats used and each part should be mentioned so we know what metal we are dealing with.

Yes, its hard. Someone needs to think outside the box and look at ways to give people what they need, but also ensure they aren't breathing in anything from metals, electronics and such. I think having something you could flip into place which was glass might help, or some glass that can withstand extreme heat so that can be the chamber.

Any convection snob or flavor chaser should own or at least try the Splinter and Splinter Z for sure. The low cost of a Splinter V1 or V2 sets such a high bar for big on demand convection hits without a torch. Pair one of those with a forty dollar mod and a cooling stem and you have what everyone must have hoped cuter portables like the Firefly 2 would deliver. Shame it's too awkward to be truly portable. Happily we can own more than one vape.

Off topic but I use a predictive keyboard called SwiftKey that's free for Android and iOS. The longer the word the easier it is to type and the less accurate you have to be. I prefer it to Gboard. SwiftKey also learns how you type so nowadays I can type "I rec" and not only will it suggest "recommend" without me even getting to the first "o", it'll proceed to suggest "installing the Herbie ecigprofiles" one word a time so I needn't input any of the letters for those words

Yeah lol thanks for proving my point, which was mainly that the Nomad is certainly NOT the only one... And I personally would not use mine that way for a variety of reasons (for one thing, fuck jeans and tight pants!) But I have used my Milaana out and about like this (not my fancy exotic one though!) plus MistVape Impcognito, Fury, Eden, and several others I'm sure...
