I don't drink...
Can't stand the taste of alcohol.

If I do plan on getting blotto, it's vodka or jaeger-bombs

I'd rather combust than drink a beer...
An I don't want to combust

Frederick McGuire,
I'm a beer brewer and enthusiast - we had a good little thread going there before it kind of petered out. I tend to gravitate toward funky or sour beers myself, and have a great appreciate for both the historic styles of yesteryear and the great innovations we see from companies like Dogfishhead, Mikkeler, Epic and others. I've started to let my ethics steer my beer choices as well, I won't knowingly give money to huge corporations like InBev by buying their pseudo-microbrews or their stolen and watered down historic brands, such as Hoegaarden and Leffe.

Wine is nice, but I've never found it to be as complex as a beer can be. I greatly favor Italian and Spanish wines over French and prefer French over American wines; we really are making some of the most two dimensional, meaningless wines I've ever tasted these days, especially my state of California. I work in wine and spirits and so am constantly exposed to new wines, but have only a limited academic understanding of the varietals and the processes. I also have a real hard on for wines from regions which were famed for ancient wine production, such as Greece, Sicily, Libya, etc., which are less discussed and appreciated today.

I'd rather combust than drink a beer...

Keep trying new beers. Just a sip, maybe two. It's strange, but it'll start growing on you like nothing else, and I don't mean the inebriation, I mean the appreciation of the palette for a new thing. I remember when I used to recoil at the thought of a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, now it's just about as mild as I like them.

I don't drink often, most of the time I just drink for the taste, but I do like it. don't really have one favorite beer, so I'll just name a few

good beers:
guinness, hertog jan, palm, duvel, west malle, grolsch, warsteiner

beer that I don't like, but will drink if I want to get drunk(wich isn't often) and there's nothing else:
heineken

what I will never drink again:
schultenbrau (I had it once, on a very hot summerday i the park and the beer was hot too, everyone of our group passed it to the next since no one liked it, but the hotness probably played a big role in that, still I will never drink it again, only feed it to slugs now since it's cheap)

liquor: again I like a lot, so far only 2 I don't like: jack daniels and wodka(jack daniels just tastes nasty, wodka doesn't taste enough, or tastes nasty if it's realy cheap and bad wodka)
one of my favorites was probably a rum based on islandic moss that a friend took back from his vacation on iceland, that stuff was delicious
kruidenbitter is really nice too(a sweet herbal liquor)
beerenburg too(a local herbal liquor)
I love a good whiskey too, for example johny walker, or tullamore dew, or jameson
sambucca I drank a lot one week in rome, the italian sambucca is better as the sambucca around here tough

wine: I don't like wine, only mead/honeywine I like enough to drink but all other wine I'll decline

djonkoman,

OhTheAgony

here for the chicks
Beer was my goto drink for many many years, but I only drink a blond cold one during heat waves or after doing some heavy work that breaks out the sweat nowadays, and can't even finish a second one anymore.

I do like Spanish and South African red wines, and of course the native drink in my part of the country:

But I only drink alcohol sporadicly, I'm usually on this stuff:

Man, I wish we could get Dogfishhead around here- I've only been able to try a couple of their beers.

Know what you mean about the imitations- most "Japanese" beers and some variations of Guinesss are all made in Canada.

I mainly drink the stronger beers- love pretty much everything from Stone, especially their around for a while then gone forever ones like chocolate porter and the black IPA they came out with last year...

Don't drink that much alcohol, (mostly for recreational value) but Sierra Nevada Kellerweis is my favorite beer. Myers rum and a quality blue agave tequila tie for top liquor. Wine consumption is practically nonexistent.

Nonalcoholic:
Lots of sun/iced tea (add lemon/lemonade), water, fruit juice, ice coffee

My favorite beers tend to be on the hoppy side, lately I have been drinking Sierra Nevada's Torpedo IPA or Lagunitas Lil' somethin somethin. When I need a break from IPA's I gravitate towards the Belgian beers Chimay, Rochefort (the 10), or St. Bernardus 12.

I really need to get to Cali and try some of Russian Rivers beers (Pliny).
