What box mod are you using / recommending for on-demand convection 510 vapes?

Was researching smallest box mods and came across the Artery Nugget X. Its a 50W mod that does some TC. Its also super tiny! The battery suffers from the size obviously, i think its a 13650 1000mah? The dimensions are 55.5mm by 31mm by 22mm.

I went ahead and purchased a used on off eBay just for the fun of it. Here it is with a Splinter, Modpod, and Sai atomizer. Pretty tiny...

I have heard good things about the Nugget.

Can anyone tell me a good box mod to use with the Splinter Z? I want something that can do cruise mode and preferably doesn't have any 10 second limit where I have to repress the button. Also preferably under 80$ Would a VTC mini do all that for me?

Yes but it will overhang and look kinda funny. When I use the iHeat on top of the VTC mini, people keep asking me questions like "is that some kind of shilum?", "why is your ecig so big?" etc.

At least when it's on a big mod, it looks like you are fully endorsing it, like "I have a fat mod and a fat atty and I don't give a fuck!".

@Cheesequake price of cover vs mod is a concern. I got my mini after discussing it with modpod labs. Seemed like a good choice.
The covers take time to make and the wood is pricey. But for those who are looking something beautiful to look at the cover did the bill

Well of course it's going to be pricier than a Joyetech product. They live right in the eye of the tornado in southern China and they push massive volumes worldwide. Economies of scale etc.

Don't worry too much about your prices Dave @mistvaporizer. Labor costs are not the same in western countries, and we all imagine pretty well how involved it must be to produce these pieces.

I recently got a new mod from FastTech that I'm pretty happy with. Wismec Reuleaux RX Gen3 Dual. It is small, yet surprisingly stable with a Sai+Poseidon on top. I still need to get around to installing Arctic Fox on it.

I've got a couple of others that seem like pretty decent mods.

Joyetech Espion (200W)
Wismec Ravage230

Both have color screens and are compatible with Red Panda. I was actually expecting to like one of those two better than the Reuleaux RX Gen3 Dual. (not a big fan of the name though)

Or get another Evic for a backup to justify owning a beautiful cover for them.
Adds a unique look while getting rid of most of the overhang the Splinter and Splinter Z have on this small mod.
I'm really digging mine.

I'm considering that Wismec Evolv DNA 250 mod for my Splinter but it's a kinda overkill. My $25 eLeaf Invoke mod works fine but even with Arctic Fox it has a fifteen second cutoff that I can't disable which isn't helpful for bong rips.

I'm enjoying Arctic Fox so far. Still pretty clueless. Learning is fun in this context.

Hey, I've been lurking here for a while but have never posted yet.

@bossman The eLeaf Invoke looks a nice little mod - I hadn't spotted that on my searching. How does it look with the Splinter on top?

I'm completely new to the mod scene, but ordered a Splinter after trying a friend's. He had it on a Reuleaux RX GEN3 Dual so I ordered one of those, so I know I can call someone in case I get stuck.

I also ordered a Joyetech eVic VTC Mini cos I love the look of @mistvaporizer wooden cases. It looks a bit more pocketable than the Gen3 dual for when I'm out and about.

This thread was a great resource for info for those new to mods - I read it right through from page 1. What would be really awesome would be a thread with a post that has a definitive list of mods that people use on their Splinter (tried and tested) with price range, type of battery, number of batteries and firmware update (anything else?, wattage settings perhaps?). The list in the post could be updated as people respond with their setup. A lot less reading for a noob like me.

Compared to vapes, mods seem like a steal. They appeal to me over other portable vapes as it's keeping the bulk of the electronics well away from the vapour path.

Will post some pictures and experience once I have them.

@organicbill I don't feel qualified to rate the eLeaf invoke performance-wise since Arctic Fox is new to me. But to your question, the size is ideal. As compact as you can expect from dual 18650s and just the right width for the Splinter. Plus the thread is in the middle so it balances well on a bubbler.

I really like my other mod too which coincidentally is an eVic VTC Dual. I keep that connected to my Tubo X for the Tubo specific software and keep the Splinter on the Invoke. Originally I was getting more joy with the Tubo X because of warm up and cruise modes. Now with Arctic Fox on the Invoke the playing field is more level. You should be in good shape.

However do you have to remove the splinter to access the battery? The 510 connectors are rubbish on these mods. Personally i would only use joytech mods if you dont plan swap the atty. Best to have one atty per mod. Taking the splinter on and off is a big no no on these cheap mods.

After a few swaps my cuboid showed problems measuring resistance. Would not buy one again myself. @KeroZen also has reported similar.

My advice when buying a mod - look at the 510 connector first!

P.S. very happy with my slightly more expensive smoant cylon.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll watch out for that. I wondered how come some mods were way more expensive than others. I had intended to swap the mod on the splinter. Mainly to find which I prefer. Is it possible to upgrade the 510 connector? I see you can buy them separately.

Yes the cover needs to be removed to get to the battery. The usb port is available so you can charge that way but if you only have one mod that could crimp your style.
I'll think about it maybe the cover can be done to accommodate battery swaps.

I have been thinking about a 3 battery mod and wanted to stick with a DNA. I have been eyeing these on EBay for a bit (around the $80 range) but under $70 is just too good to pass up. Should look pretty sweet with my new Bubinga Splinter Z (HF). Thanks for the post!
