Hello all,
I am from Rural Alaska and have been interested in vaporization for about 3 years now. Currently I am going to college and wanted a vaporizer with extreme efficiency. A few google searches later, I ended up here, which I now consider to be the best source of objective information on vaporizers.
My first vaporizer was the cheap homemade light bulb type, which works if you use it correctly, but I was not satisfied with it's inconvenience and burnt popcorn taste. So I went back to smoking. My second vaporizing experience was with hot knives heated on a hot plate to just the right temperature. Again it was inconvenient and after one too many of my friends burned themselves, I went back to smoking. My third vaporizer was with a cheap heat gun fit into a bong. I loved it, but none of my friends would embrace it, which made me a lonely stoner. My fourth vaporizer was a soldering iron on Amazon for like $15 with a 3 inch pyrex tube fit over the hot end. I would first hold the metal right to the 'whacky tobacco' and let it warm the metal bowl up. After it just starts vaporizing, I would fit the pyrex tube over the hot soldering end and draw slowly. My buddies and I would stir it and crush it and continue until someone inevitably combusts some material. Then, since it is very dry, we would just start smoking. In case you're wondering, I've never actually bought a vaporizer. A puppy chewed up the cord for my soldering iron recently.
So after researching for days for a better vaporizing experience, I've found this site. I ordered the Purple-Dayz, which seems to be beloved by all, on this forum. However, I may order the Myrtlezap instead, since they are of the same basic design. The brass doesn't even factor into my decision.
I am moving out of the place that I currently stay, in favor of somewhere smaller and quieter, and that's when I'll need a good home unit, so if the PD comes before I get tired of waiting, then I'll go with it, but if not, it's the MZ.
For the time being, I am considering the Magic Flight Launch Box. It sounds suitable for my current situation. However, from my experience working with electronics at a power plant and elsewhere, I think that I can design my own. It seems to consist of a resistor hooked to a battery. Shouldn't be too hard. Unless I factor in that I may be vaping in -50 F if I don't move soon.
Perhaps the Vapor Genie is my best bet, since -20 F is commonplace in my neighborhood. -50 F is a good time for a stony walk, since it is so quiet and peaceful.
