So I want to start making coconut oil infusions again. I used to make them with weed and was wondering if I would get better potency by using hash or oil. I think it would end up costing about the same, as it seems that prices are generally relative to THC content, at least where I am.
Does one give a better result than the other? I am thinking that flowers might contain a bigger selection of cannabinoid and terpenes. Can I make a much more potent oil using shatter?
I haven't tried calculating THC dosage before but I am shooting for 250mg thc that I can fit into a gel cap.
We used to make herb infused coconut oil, but now only make rso diffused in coconut oil with lecithin added. (I may switch to using rosin though). The main reason we switched was due to widely differing results with the infused oil. Using rso, hash oil, bho and so on makes measuring much more presice and predictable.
Some concentrates may need to be decarboliized, so take that into consideration.
Adding lecithin makes the concentrate much more available. It's a emulsifier, and so it makes large sticky molecules of concentrate into smaller pieces easier to pass through intestinal walls for a more efficent uptake. We like organic powdered soy lecithin that we get off amazon. It really does make a noticeable difference.
I use a glass measuring cup on a coffee warmer and use gentle heat to combine the mix. When the lecithin melts and the hash oil is completely suspended and blended in solution, it's ready to fill caps with.
We use (give or take) 1.5-3 grams rso to one fluid ounce of coconut oil, and one half tsp of powered lecithin. This will obviously differ by the concentrate and what the maker wants. This will make roughly 30-33 size 00 gell caps. You can estimate the dose by the % of cannabinoids ( if known) divided by the number of caps. For me, more important is to have a base line you can come back to rather than relying on estimated numbers.
Before we cap all the capsules we sample single caps to see if adjustments are nessasary. And we fill caps with pipettes by hand.
We use a 50/50 mix of high cdb/ high thc concentrates. Using this mix allows us to use higher amounts of thc for a maximum medical affect and slightly less of a recreational type high. Although you definately get high. But 3 grams of high thc oil in 1 fluid oz of coconut, and 1/2 tsp of lecithin is a very high dose for most users or patients. But it's more manageable with the cbd included. Plus of course it's more complete medically speaking.
I have several patients using these with reported success. And it's great to know how well this herb helps people. In our case my wife and I take a cap nightly, because it also helps with getting a good nights sleep. But we also make it for epilepsy, ulcerative colitis, breast cancer and chronic pain.
Along these lines, we make a similar concoction for our elderly dogs. We use 1 gram of a 50/50 mix, in 1 fluid oz hemp oil and 1/2 tsp lecithin. We keep it in an eye dropper bottle and each small dog gets about 3 drops at meal time.
And I make a hemp oil infusion of just high thc oil and lecithin and use an eye dropper for under the tongue or on food. Hope all this helps......
