VIP from SSV

Deadshort480

We're here to fuck shit up.
Oh! So the coil rises from the bottom of the ceramic cup in this vaporizer, instead of spanning the cup. Interesting.

.......
One other BIG difference is the "ceramic honeycomb disc" that 7th floor is about to release with the VIP. Currently successfully vaporizing herb with various flat round "button-like" discs that slip right into the chamber between the herb and bottom coil, this seems to be the answer that the other pen makers have ignored, and 7th floor did not.
is it like the ceramic screens from the vapor brothers, easy change whip kit? i like that idea.

I have one of those! Just got it out, it is too big for an ego cone or ego w tank though so haven't had much use for it. What is the thread pattern type and the battery size of the VIP?

i was wondering if it would fit other common e cigs.. your'e talking about those ceramic screens right?

Yes the ceramic screen, identical pattern as picture above. It won't fit with what I have. The pens from zainy have shipped so I will tell you upon arrival. I also purchased 4 glass honeycomb screens from some good ol boys down in the KY, pipescreenz.com! As well as some small daisy screens, at half the price of the VIP it's a no brainer DIY project! If the threads are 510 like Vito says below, the ceramic screens above would need shaved down 2mm.

I am not able to show you pictures at this time of the discs I am testing.
The first ones did look similar to the button like discs above, but the following ones varied.
I will however show you one that has given me moderate success with herb.
DSC02478.jpg
DSC02479.jpg

about the size of a collar button, this one seems to allow just enough heat through to not combust unless one is careless.
I intentionally am avoiding discussing the flower aspect, because it is not perfect in my eyes yet.
I want it to be... that is why I keep going here!

Any info on thread type and battery size? Also, is that just one of the ceramic flavor discs from 7th floor?

The threads are 510
I am trying to find out the battery size now. It is going to be 650 or 900 mah, probably 900.
I like the display. It is showing 3 out of 5 bars (a bit better than half power remaining) and it shows that on this charge I have done 130 hits.

Thanks for all the great info Vitolo,
I too am very interested in this pen vape for herb only.
I see that the 7th Floor has them up for sale and listed as in stock.
Do you know what ceramic disc/disc's that they are supplying with the initial kit?
Should I hold off for awhile before ordering till the disc is finalized or would they supply updated ones to those who purchase early?
Keep up your grueling work!

Thanks for posting, Vito - the size of that unit as well as vapor production seem like they would be perfect for me. My vacation starts 4/29, so I still have some time to research...hrm, for $120 I may just have to bite!

I wish they would have come up with their own design and not piggy backed an already mass produced Chinese pen. For oils and concentrates it will be great! That is all it should be marketed for, I don't think buds will be an efficient or an overall pleasant experience. Heck I don't know yet, they don't even know yet! They are are doing the same thing I am, testing r&d. Check the atmos raw thread. Glad I got mine for half the msrp of the VIP. I wonder what it cost them at bulk for the same item! Ohh ya and I got two of everything but charger at that price!

SSVUN~YAH,

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
^^^Sounds like, according to Vitolo, that the innards are different than most....So even though you are getting a inexpensive ecig, chances are it's not going to be the same as the VIP.

Are you comparing "apples to apples"? or just assuming that they are actually the same?
Do you have or have you used a VIP SSV pen?

I am not here to argue, not disagreeing with Vitolo either. He knows his stuff! It is a retro fit project so no I am not comparing two different products. SSV only changed screen, look at atmos raw thread. I've done my research on this, please don't bash me for showing a cost friendly comparison. I have no interest in either companies just like a fair deal and not to get ripped off on newly marketed merchandise.

Yeah, I would have liked to have seen a product that was originated by 7th Floor from the ground up as they have done with all of their other products. This, however, seems to be a deviation from what they have done in the past and in my opinion, kind of diminishes their reputation as a pioneer in the design, manufacturing and marketing of vaporizers. What they have done here is to purchase an existing design and in so doing, seems to be, to me, a major shift in how they do business.

Kind of disappointing, but hey, that's just me.

I just got a heater from the Atmos, to show.
You may note that the owner tried to throw some herbal matter in there by the crumbs. It turned out this heater did not function.. It is unused. Please note the color of the metal on the coils.
Also please note that instead of a coil that rises like an inverted cone, the coils barely rise at all.
DSC02483.jpg

The VIPs coils have a bright gleaming appearance...
Even after a week of solid use, and even through a puddle of Wax, you can clearly see that the metal coil has a distinct elevation to it, and it still gleams as it should!

*EDIT-
I am not saying this is the end of the rainbow, nor will I say that it is totally unique.
It is a pen like the others, whose resellers (SSV/7th Floor LLC) have made efforts to enhance by getting the right fittings and by getting the heaters etc. from the Chinese manufacturing concerns that took time to make the best parts rather than to cut costs in the end.
I am saying it is a very fun pen, and it is being provided by folks we know.
They Also sell Dimebags, as well as Jars by 420 Glass, cups/glasses by "Enjoy", Pollen sifters by "Riot"... and they have the SSV Logo on many of these.... yet do not make them.
Some said they wished that it was original 7th Floor work, and not just a re-do.
MORE folks said I want an Oil Pen, and if 7th Floor backs it I will bite!

Sorry, wasn't looking to start an argument and I defiantly didn't bash you.
Agreed, Vitolo knows his stuff and I did read it as you were disagreeing with him.
Which is why I asked a couple of questions.
I'm just trying to figure out what makes it worth double the cost of other pen vapes.
I always appreciate saving money and also look for cost saving alternatives.
But if they got a pen vape that will truly "vape" herbs, I'm all in!

Yeah, but those are accessories, not their core products.

.... if 7th Floor backs it I will bite!

I'm just questioning their decision to 'back' a core product that is already in production under other brand names and re-branding it as their own with a couple of internal mods. It just seems to go against their previous business practices and, at least for me, changes my perspective of 7th Floor in general and I do think that this shows a general change in direction for the company. I have no doubt that these concerns were discussed before the decision was made to go with product that already existed in the marketplace.

From a marketing perspective, I think this is a bad move. From a financial perspective, it may have been necessary.

A quick word on the units use for herb....
While I am getting better with the concept, I just realized an element of the system I have been ignoring.
The top spring.
The unit functions in a way that allows, when you draw more forcefully, oils to climb the coil a bit, creating a tunnel of viscous fluid (only at tip end of this spring...)... that helps with draw, and with conducting heat through the oils.
Photoon2013-04-06at0720.jpg

Everyone I know that has tried to use herbal matter has gotten in a jam with this...
The coil needs to be removed for use with herbs... if you do not remove the top spring, there is NO real herb chamber, and you are forcing the herbal matter downward.....
when you need to force it in the direction of your suction.
I am using well ground meds, and am sucking them well toward the mouthpiece before begin ing, and even with NO ceramic disc this works, but the disc is needed for care free action.
I have another unit coming to do more work on flowers.
I am feeling positive at least about the spring removal as a tactic~

I disagree, lwien. 7th floor didn't invent the hakko vape, just perfected it. They took an effective, home made design and made it a solid production unit you could count on and put it in a bunch of different packages. This time they are just doing it in reverse by using other outer shells and trying to perfect the innards.

I've never seen 7th floor as innovators. But they sure know how to make a good vape that lasts a long time and can compete with the top of the market.

If they were totally gutting it and totally replacing the innards with their unique design, I would agree with you but what it looks like is that they are just making a few mods to the existing inner design and then calling it their own.

I don't know. It just seems kinda tacky to me.

I guess we should be talking about the vape here and not 7th Floors marketing strategies, so forgive me for taking this thread OT if I have.........but for me, the only way that 7th Floor could bring me around on this would be for them to do a direct comparison of their VIP to other vape pens of aesthetically identical designs to clearly show the unique differences that warrant the 7th Floor branding.
