Vestratto Tornado heating tips

Yeah it sucks that some Wands have different behavior. I've been lucky enough to have never seen an error on mine and it heats the atomizer pretty easily.

Maybe try the method I used to use before:
  • Insert the Tornado from the back until it touches the back of the front glass
  • Count 16 flashes (+/- 1 flash based on battery level or misc. factors) for the first time if the Tornado is cold. I find the tastiest hits come before any click so I try to avoid them. If it clicks while you're drawing that's fine.
  • Count 8 flashes for any re-heats but definitely stop if you hear a click.
One more thing - after loading the bowl with flower, rap the top of the cap with your fingernail to dislodge any flower that might be stuck to the top on the inside. When this happens, it can lead to light scorching.

I can usually get 3-4 big hits from an 2/3 full bowl. Good luck!

I want to add to this.. I agree that some wand have different behavior.

I have 2 Ispire wands and when i insert tornado on either. They dont trigger heating at same height depth. Im guessing the sensor that detects the metal is not exactly on same location 1:1 as the 2nd Ispire wand. This might be the culprit why this easily triggers the error 01 on some wands. (i do get the error in both of my wands if inserted too deeply) a steady hand will help =)

General Disaster

Stationary momentum!
So been experimenting with the wand and single flame torch with mixed results. The torch is fairly intuitive and I find that it clicks twice with the clicks a couple of seconds apart. The wand is a different story. I heated to the first click and was waiting and waiting but no second click. So naturally I combusted!

My next attempt I thought I would try the hands free method I have seen (setting the want to 525F and waiting for timeout). I don't have any insert so I used a silicone dab pot lid and set the height so the holes are level with the red ring. Well it clicked and then hissed and then I combusted! I think the lack of an insert around the oven means that it is a much more aggressive heat. So I think probably best to just heat to the first click in the wand!

To add insult to injury I tried to rescue the bowl just as it was smoking and dropped the vape on my rug! So have been trying to clean the over in iso and gently scrubbing. All the rug is gone from the oven and it is clean all over but now as a very tarnished look! Will Bar Keepers friend or Brasso remove the tarnish marks or is it not worth spending anymore time on this? It still functions well as I treated my self to a large bowl after cleaning everything for an hour!
What a bummer man! That's cruel luck with the rug thing, that's just the sort of thing happens to me far too often (sweat shirt and Tempest induction sleeve was my last melt-down).

I've actually been doing quite well with my Wand, better than with a torch in fact. It's just wide enough to use it from the front and using Tempest or DV adapter the wrong way round to support the Tornado, so that like you the holes are just level with the red ring. Currently I'm running around 500℉ to timeout for a pretty dark roast. I've noticed it works best (for me at least) with a rough grind of flower and very loose packing. Here it seems less is most definitely more, and almost filling the bowl with 0.1g gives a very powerful extraction in one and a bit draws. It also seems to work better with a looser type of leaf rather than a dense flower.

I get the impression there's a fair bit of variety in the Wand, not just two versions, although I also think from initial playing about that the positioning in the coil makes a big difference to how long it needs in the Wand and how it comes out when heated that way, there seem to be such a wide range of experience among Tornado/Wand users here. My Wand was bought new about 14 months back from a UK vendor.

I don't know Barkeep's but I wouldn't think Brasso would hurt just to get the surface cleaner and smoother. It is abrasive and that steel must be pretty thin in parts, but I can't imagine once in a while would be a problem (maybe others here have more experience with that?).

Kicking myself for being so clumsy, all to try to save 0.15g of herb 😂. I have given it a gentle scrub with some toothpaste in warm water and it’s looking much better. Like others have said it probably doesn’t pay to be so OCD about something you are heating to such high temps. It’s inevitable it will get a bit tarnished (preferably not by a cheap Ikea rug!). For the record I’ve also stupidly tried to use a sweatshirt to remove an armoured cap.

My wand is a bit older so need to insert from the bottom. I think I will forgo the hands free wand time out option and just either heat to the click or give a go to the 16 flashes method mentioned above as a starting point.

thank you, i will try this! I am gaining a preference for tasty lower temp starts too and your reheat safety measure on the click will be helpful!
