Vaporizing has saved my life. This is my story.

This is my story. I am 19 years old, and I have had a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis since birth. Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that mutates the Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene. This mutation causes both problems with the respiratory system, as well as, the pancreas. My lungs have been my biggest ailment throughout life. I have always been on numerous breathing treatment regiments and antibiotics for killing chronic lung infections.
Growing up, all my friends experimented with Marijuana and it was the one thing that I never got to experience with them. I tried brownies every now and then, but edibles just are not as practical as smoking. Whenever I tried edibles I did notice that my Cystic Fibrosis symptoms were greatly reduced. My lungs would open up more; allowing better oxygen intake, and I was able to decrease the amount of sputum congestion in my lungs.
Now after having this sort of experience with edibles, I decided to research Marijuana and Cystic Fibrosis and see why it could be helping me so much. What I discovered is, all humans have endogenous cannabinoids naturally synthesized by the CFTR pathway. Now with Cystic Fibrosis mutating my CFTR gene, I produce little to no cannabinoids at all. What is it that cannabinoids offer to the human body? Well cannabinoids are excellent for appetite stimulation, antiemetic, bronchodilating, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrheal and hypo-algesic effect.
With the bronchodilating and anit-inflammatory effects of cannabinoids, I realized this is what greatly reduced my Cystic Fibrosis symptoms. So in 2009, I learned about vaporizers. I met someone who one and decided to try and see how it affected my lungs. I knew it would be a great improvement over smoking, as it would not cause irritation or constriction of my lungs. The vaporizer was a great success. I bought my own dark coffee Vapor Brothers and went from there.
After having used the vaporizer daily along with my normally breathing treatments for roughly 3 months, I noticed a huge improvement in my symptoms. I honestly have never felt this well in my entire life. I went for my big check up with my doctor. I took a blood test and also did my pulmonary function test. First off the blood test was ground breaking for me, and my doctor was quite excited. The number of white blood cell irregularities in my immune system had decreased from 12.6% to 6 %; this is a huge improvement. 12.6% is quite high, and it means I had a large number of infections in me. Now it has dropped by twice that and is in a good stable zone. M pulmonary test was also great. It had stayed stable and actually did not go down or up from my previous visit. Another success is, when my doctor listened to my lungs with her stethoscope, she heard absolutely no crackling in my lungs; which means there is no over congestion of sputum in my lungs.
So this is my story of how Marijuana is the only medicine that has truly helped my well-being. I can now live easier, without chronic lung exacerbations; I also sleep better and my appetite has been up helping to keep my weight stable.
I thank anyone who had the patients to read all of this, I just wanted to have this story out there, so that people see how Marijuana is truly a legitimate medicine and it needs to be utilized. If medicinal marijuana were legal here in Georgia, I would see if I could have my doctors start research studies for the use of Marijuana and Cystic Fibrosis, but I guess I will just have to be patient. Please feel free to comment. Peace everyone. -Nick

I have diminished lungs due to an accident many years ago as a child. I too feel that vaporizing has helped my lungs. It is as if it dried them out.

Thank you for sharing and my next vape is in your honor and continued benefits of vaporizing!

I thank you all for reading this. I'm glad other people share the same interest in vaporizing as I do.

Beezleb: I'm glad to hear that you have noticed that vaping helps with your diminished lungs, my next vape will also be in your honor!

Lo: I have never researched the Launch Box. Have you tried it? Is it as safe and efficient as the Vapor Brothers?

Thanks!

Yes I have a launch box (Magic Flight Launch Box). Got my sister one and a friend hooked now too. It's a little wood portable which runs on rechargeable batteries. If you've ever seen the game Jenga the wood box is about that size - TINY!!

It is very stealth and efficient if you need something for when you're away from home. Plus, lifetime warranty. There is a thread about it here that's 100+ pages long. It's a great little portable :D

Wow that sounds aweosme. I'm going to have to check that out, cause I was trying to find a way to have a vape that would be portable enough to take with me to music festivals.

Here is a great thread on the Launch Box. Its a great portable vape and I second its recommendation if your looking for a portable. In all fairness I should state that I beta tested a Launch Box model but that played no role in my recommendation of the product, it is because it does what it says it does. The launch box is my portable vape of choice.

Welcome Nick.

Interesting read. I knew marijuana has wide spread use in a medical capacity, but I had no idea how effective it could be at reducing the symptoms of such a disease. It's daft some states in the US choose to outlaw medical marijuana. Why is this, for political reasons? It sure isn't for the well being of patients.

Great to hear this. I also had lots of lung issues, back when i smoked herb, even a year after quitting cigs. Didn't get it checked out or anything, I just coughed up stuff a lot, in the morning especially. Also, towards the end of my smoking period, sometimes after taking a big hit i would cough so hard that parts of my body (neck, shoulders/arms mainly) would ache.

Since december, when i switched to vaping exclusively, I havent had any of these problems. I still cough from taking a big hit every now and then, but it's a totally different and much less painful and agitated cough than the hacking I used to do. But the mos timportant part is that I don't continually cough throughout my day, whenever i'm NOT breathing in vapor. lol

I think some of my friends and other ppl might think i'm a little over-passionate and talkative about vaporization or maybe too strict in my refusal to inhale any smoke, but when something causes this much of an improvement in your life, it's like spreading the good news  It's obviously heaps better for health, practically no smell/residue, and much easier on the wallet in the end (my vapes paid for themselves within a few months in what i saved on herb usage)... how could i not be a vape-missionary?

It's stories like yours, MS patients, cancer patients, and the many others who use cannabis for life-affecting illnesses that makes me so mad that cannabis is illegal. There are so many possibilities with this plant that can greatly improve the quality of life for people with ailments...
I can see cannabis becoming a hugely popular multi-use medicine in the future. We need to keep telling stories like this to people who don't know about cannabis-to change the general opinion.

I have had a skin condition called psoriasis on small parts of my body since I was a child. I won't get into the details of how it affects my life because it's embarressing, but I would consider it to have had a negative impact on my quality of life and my mental well-being. I've used steroidal creams and special shampoos that didn't really help much except mask the appearance of the psoriasis, and it would always come back. I recently decided to try a hemp based lotion made in the czech republic which has had far greater results than anything else I've tried. It hasn't been more than 2 weeks since I've used it daily, but I noticed a difference after the first week. It seems to be getting much better... although it will never go away completely.
I want to try making some kind of concentrate (hash) for topical application, which I think would have great results.

If only medical marijuana was available in my state...

Welcome to the club VaporNick, I hope you stick around, because this place sounds perfect for ya. Lotsa well educated and caring people here. I am glad that your health is doing so much better because of the magic herb. I am bipolar, and I have degenerative disk disease, and I find that marijuana greatly benefits me by stabilizing my mood, and relieving pain. It does so many wonderful things, no wonder the drug companies and governments want it to stay illegal. More control over you and I, means more money and power for them. Keep up the good cheer.

Long reads are no problem at FC; I believe that most of us are vaked when we hop on here, and it makes the reads that much better.

I am very happy to hear about the health benefits you have gained from MJ/vaping.

I think that from there, I only have one suggestion for you. I think some water filtration for your vapor would be an amazing next step for you, preferabley with warm-hot water.http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=2584 Give that a peek.

I don't know if you'd want to, but I suggest calling your senator. Descripe to him your sickness and the pain it has brought upon you; then, the same way you did to use, explain to him how and why MJ works for you medically. I know that helped with the lobbying of an Illinois MJ movement.

To say the least, welcome to FC Nick and I hope you only start to feel better.
Thanks for more response!

Often, I do filter my vape through a water-pipe. But I always use cold water from the sink. I have never tried hot water, i'll definitely have to give that a go. And I think I will send a letter to my senator, I think I would have to do some better writing though, to really persuade them.

Thanks for your response as well!

That's great that out of all the prescriptions you have tried, that a hemp based lotion gave you the most success for treating your ailment.

That's wonderful to hear yet another success story for Marijuana. It really can control and cure more medical disorders than any other medicine known to man.

Welcome VaporNick! Your story is really moving. I'm also sorry that you have to go through this at such a young age, but it seems you have a great attitude and that helps so much. I'm glad that mj has been such a help to you. It's really amazing how much it can help for so many ailments.

I've also noticed that it was a huge help when I stopped smoking and started vaping. My cough disappeared within a week. Prior to that, I sounded like I had bronchitis most of the time and I was also coughing stuff up. I was facing having to stop using mj when I found out about vaping. I feel so much better and vaping has helped my pain more than smoking did. What's not to love?

I think you'll feel right at home here. It's a great place for information and friends. :)

Thanks for the kind words! I am very passionate about trying to change these outdated laws. I would really like to see something happen in my state while I am still around. All my friends have witnessed the success of Marijuana treating my CF, and they have been encouraging me to go for it.

Well, you have a very compelling story. And it takes passionate people to get change to happen, whether it be about legalizing mj or another issue. If more people were compelled to have a voice, maybe the changes would happen sooner. Perhaps you can get your friends to write too.

momofthegoons,
Hi VaporNick,

Let me echo the welcome. You will find a good number of people here who are vaping not just as a safer alternative to smoking, but also to relieve symptoms of disease and generally improve their quality of life.

I know there are a few of us with Rheumatoid Arthritis (Me and Vickie for sure) and degenerative disc issues (I share that one with SkeletonLips) and many other maladies. I did not know that CF sufferers got relief from cannabis, but it does not surprise me. I would also not be surprised to find that there are other members (or lurkers) here with CF as well.

I find that, in addition to the analgesic properties, the thing I most value is the overall attitude adjustment I get from consuming herb. With the amount of chronic pain I endure (silently) I would be even more of an asshole if I didn't get high. Hell if my employees had any idea, they would be buying mine for me!;)

What I am really trying to get to is that even though I may not contribute that much to this forum, I get so much out of it that it has become my "first and last" website. I read the new posts right before bed and in the morning as I am getting ready for work. There are very few days where I don't get something of value from this place. Enjoy!

Yeah, same here. I have really started to enjoy this website. I hadn't realized how many people actually vaked. It's so nice to have other knowledgeable individuals here, that I can utilize when I have questions.
