been looking for a skillet type pen for a few weeks now, about to pull the trigger on this one!!! just debating if vaped micro may be better option...how big is this unit? what are the dimensions? looks like its as big as a regular e-cig, which I already have plenty of those...need a pocket size discreet device

Mine is something less than 15 cm long (14, 6 more or less) and weights 54 grams.

What's the best way to hit the Dabbler?
Wait a second and then pulling while still pressing the button is what I'm doing now.

I never saw that screen, and did not get one with the Dabbler kit~

I've never seen that screen as well and I know for certain that Vaporbrothers is not including a screen with the current Dabbler kits. If it was a Vaporbrothers screen it would have been darker as they heat treat all of their screens.

I'm pretty certain that if all it took was a little screen to use flower with the Dabbler, Vaporbrothers would have included that as it would be a great selling feature. I imagine use of that screen with flower may result in something closer to combustion than vaping. If someone does decide to use a screen, I would recommend finely grind the flower and loosely pack it.

We have a prototype flower chamber at the warehouse, but I was unable to locate it yesterday to do some further testing.

If you don't mind giving up a few things, the vaped micro sells for less. I think there's a lot more that you get in the Dabbler for only $20 more. Vaped has a nice style to all their products. The micro is shorter than ours (Dabbler is 5 3/4") but I can't imagine that battery driving the big heating element for long. You have to bring the charger along because it is a separate piece. By the way, all vapor pens can break in your pocket as you sit down so you should take the battery off if you're a serious pocket carrier.

There are a few pens out now that have the same looking heater as Dabbler. The word from our manufacturer is that someone left the company with the Dabbler heater design to go make it elsewhere. Who knows, it's super typical behavior. We buy high quality heating wire and do such a long involved testing process, I can't imagine any other company bothering with those details. I'm not knocking vaped micro too much, but I think that Dabbler is going to hit for longer and skip the typical ecig hassles. And of course, our warranty does not require you to register in time or pay us anything and it covers the heater should it be DOA, something you don't get with other brands of vapor pen.

My Dabbler arrived earlier this week. I wish I had a gram for every time someone has posted this on FC, but it is smaller than I thought it would be.

The Dabbler is not the sort of device I would normally own. I don't use concentrates much and the Dabbler is designed specifically for oils and waxes and such. There's a lot of interest in the pen form factor, however, and I know nothing about this segment of the industry so I wanted to try the Dabbler to further my education. Based on reports I've read, a lot of pen vapes out there are poorly engineered conversions from e-cigs that don't work well. This one is from a venerable and reliable company with experience in real vapourizers, so I expected the Dabbler to be well-made and to work as advertised. I was not disappointed.

The Dabbler comes disassembled in a nice metal case:

ucQUO3j.jpg
Fully assembled, it is still small and light. True to the name for this form factor, it resembles a pen and isn't much bigger or heavier than a good old fountain pen (which I can still remember, not sure about you kids).

JYqoL51h.jpg
The mouthpiece is plastic and fits onto the part they call the cone, which is on the left below. The centre shows the top end of the battery and controller, and on the right is the heater coil.

Pps3PBsh.jpg
The battery is charged through a mini-USB port in the bottom of the unit. There's no cable. A neat little USB/mini-USB adapter is included instead, making the kit compact:

rChgy8Th.jpg

My initial impressions of the packaging and construction were quite positive. It looks and feels like a nice, solid unit. My first test with any device is to draw through it before using it in order to estimate restriction and look for any taste. The Dabbler has a somewhat restricted draw, which didn't surprise me based on my examination of the mouthpiece. Unused, I didn't detect any flavour. I did a couple of dry heat cycles to burn off anything left from manufacturing and shipping. I watched for any off-gassing and didn't see any. I then hit it again empty to check for changes in taste, and again found nothing.

The only concentrates I have at the moment are some ISO reclaim and a little kief. I first tried the reclaim and got a pretty thick cloud out of my first hit. Because it was reclaim, the flavour was not great. (My wife said it tasted stale, which is exactly right.) The second hit was a bit thinner, the third was downright weak, and the fourth produced nothing. I think I probably would have gotten two or three more hits with better material and perhaps a bigger load. (The reclaim is quite thick and I was afraid of damaging the coil while loading it.)

I found that after using it with the reclaim, it had acquired a flavour, so I cleaned it with ISO and got rid of all but a slight hint of the taste. I think a more thorough cleaning would take care of that. I'm not sure if the mouthpiece can be soaked in ISO; does anyone know? I don't recall seeing the answer in the thread.

I know kief isn't on the list for this device but I have some so I thought I'd try it anyway. It worked quite well in my opinion. Again I got a thick first hit, thinner second, and in this case almost nothing on the third. I thought maybe kief might leave the coil clogged up or dirty but it didn't seem to. The load probably could have been bigger, but the fact is that the Dabbler is pretty much a 3-4 hitter and then reload. I'd say this is its weakest point. Loading it takes a little care and isn't something you can do easily on the go. This makes it less of a portable solution and pretty much sidesteps the battery life issue.

On the positive side, it does what it is designed to do quite well. Despite the short path, I didn't find the vapour harsh or too hot. The flavour from the kief was quite nice, but the reclaim tasted, well, like reclaim. My assessment is that the Dabbler delivers the flavour of the material without adding its own note, and that's really all you can ask.

That's about all I want to say without living with it for a while. I'll be ready to comment more once I get some decent concentrate to try.

that's a great review, pak. it definitely is a "load as you go" device and i switched mouthpieces myself for better flavor, but for an inexpensive ecig type pen, it seems to be quality.
i find shatter is great, cuz you can just break a piece off and stick it to the coil, which after a single use is usually sticky enough to hold it on until you get the mp on and hit it w/ heat

I've been told it's possible to overload the chamber with much more wax than a dab on the coil.
Some of the wax goes down on the bottom but then you can vape it up using the Dabbler upside down.
I loaded a 3 mm dab on the coil and I'm vaping that since 3 days ago, with no need to go upside down still.
The only thing is that some of the wax got stuck on the sides of the coil, not on the bottom, but I think it will vape up when what is on the coil is finished.
This way you can probably turnaround on it's weakest point and make it last an evening out and not only 2 or 3 hits.
I can confirm what Pakaloko says on his review, I'm not a very experienced dabber but this device tastes like dabbing on glass and titanium for me.

YES YES YES. An extreme user told me the other day that he loads it on and on and on. He gets it in and around the sides and just keeps packing on top until nothing else fits. The wax to the side gets wicked in towards the coil once it's spent what's directly in touch with it. It all vaporizes eventually and you can help that along by rotating the unit around to get the oil on the sides & bottom to go where you want.

More than a few people tell us they taste no difference between Dabbler and a Ti nail. We're also working toward getting you something that tastes a world better than a Ti nail, but that's seriously in a moment wait folks. Rollout end of July.

Count me in! Dibs on 1st in line!
Got my cart 85-90% clean just now by doing the upside down thing for the last few rips, and little toothpick swipe on sides of coil, careful to not hit coil obviously. Dropped some Green Kryptonite on and flavor still clean, rivals nail still and thats after 2 months+ of use that could be considered abuse, lol. What are you reading this for, go get a Dabbler!

This thing looks amazing to me!

I just have a few concerns before I pull the trigger. Right now I have the omicron V2.5 and a dabbing rig. I love both my omicron and rig but there are some things I would like to change. My omicron doesn't pack quite the punch that I would like and I don't like dealing with the carts. I love dabbing but I don't always have the time or place to pull out my big torch and glass piece. To me, the dabbler seems like it is very close if not mimicking a dab. Is this true? Can the dabbler effectively be used as a hard hitting portable daily driver? My last concern is vaporbrothers mention of another product rolling out in July. Is this going to be an upgrade to the dabbler or completely new product? Should I simply wait until whatever he is referencing comes out or will it be okay to buy the dabbler? Thanks for the help!

It is true.. the Dabbler packs a wallop.
Waiting would be OK, but I have a feeling you would be waiting on a solid state solution, whereas
the Dabbler kicks ass on the go!

(I am saying that in my opinion it is OK to pull the trigger)

This IS my happy face..
Just received my Dabbler in the mail.:) ..Charging the battery before initial use like the instructions state...(the wait is driving me nuts)....Just one question, Has any actually killed one of these heaters yet..I know it will die eventually, just curious if one has actually failed yet....I recall one battery malfunction (earlier post) but no heater failures.....Please correct me if I am incorrect..Thanks :myday:

ps: how long does the battery take to fully charge, prior to first use ?? ...Thanks

I've been saying that the Dabbler is a 2-3 hitter, but I really loaded it up last night. I plugged it right up, which is more that I thought you were supposed to put in it. I managed to get about 8 decent hits before it wisped out. This is still not a great road trip device but it's a lot better than I originally thought.

Another thing I've discovered is that after a session, I can put it aside and a few hours later I'll be able to pull another hit or two from it. I'm not sure how long you have to wait. I usually leave it overnight.

If you are looking for a portable, go with the Dabbler. The new piece coming out in July is not an upgrade to the Dabbler but a completely different beast. Get ready to "Retire the Torch" this summer.

First, to answer my own question.....It took about an hour to charge (red light went out)...
Second....I love my new toy.....works great..I HIGHLY recommend it....Waiting anxiously for the end of July to see what's next..:)

Hey guys,

I'm trying to decide on whether I should just get a Dabbler, or go for the Persei. The loading fresh concentrate vs. having it in my pen is a non-issue for me. Most important thing is getting good, solid hits and reasonable taste.

From most of the reading I've done, it seems that the Dabbler is superior in both hit quantity and quality (taste.) The only downside being that one can load more on the Persei/Omicron. Am I missing something? Why would I care about the Persei/Omicron with the Dabbler being available? Please note, again, I've not used either, so I'm only going by what I read. Hopefully, some others who were where I am in the buying/learning curve of pen vapes will be most kind as to help a brother out.

Peace out!

You are trying to compare apples to oranges here. There are so many differences I don't think I can catch them all. The Persei is modular/upgradeable and has tons of options and accessories, I could never do it justice in a quick post.

With the price of the dabbler and loading on the go not being an issue, maybe try the dabbler first to see if it suits your needs??

While I haven't used the dabbler I have used the omicron for a couple months. I do enjoy my omicron and it does a pretty good job, however, it does have some weak points IMO. The taste of your hit with the omicron is not preserved very well and I find it can taste pretty bad at times. The dabbler, on the other hand, according to the testimonies of several users preserves taste very well and all you taste is your concentrate as long as you keep it reasonably clean. As far as hit sizes go the omicron is capable of a pretty good sized hit if you do it right but the dabbler according to users appears to create effortless huge hits which appear superior to the omicron. The omicron has the convenience of the cart which you can fill .6g or more but if thats not a concern it appears that the dabbler is a better choice for you. I don't always like fiddling around with the omicron cart anyway. You should keep in mind that the omicron does have accessories such as the nibbler and Hercules on the horizon. In the end both devices are wonderful but you have to decide which one fits you better.

toros, I appreciate your thoughts on this. In fact, you've pretty much helped me come to my decision for now. As you say, the Dabbler's are very reasonable and I need a dab pen, so I might as well get it. In fact, I've gone ahead and pulled the trigger on one and it should be here very soon :D

Now, I will admit that I still think the Persei is badass as hell and, being an engineer, I would love to tinker with it. I have read the thread (of course!) and probably should transfer all chat about it to over there at this time. However, if you are moved to tell me any more about the pros (and cons) of the Persei via PM, that'd be awesome.

Otherwise, I'm soon to be a new Dabbler owner and, judging by the way most are around here, it won't be my last purchase.

@No-Wrinkle, thanks, man, this is pretty much just what I was hoping for. A first-hand report on the Omni or the Persei. As I stated above, I pulled the trigger on a Dabbler, so I should know in a few days first hand how it performs. It has a nice form factor and I think it will be perfect for me to take a hit after I've run to the peak of one of our local mountains, then run back...nice and faded!

I still want, eventually, the option to load a shiteTon of concentrate into a carto and toot off of it all day long. Maybe the Persei can provide that. Or, maybe, I'll start exploring and experimenting with the various and sundry e-cig parts out there and see what's available.

mod note: Please avoid back-to-back posts, use Edit instead. Two posts merged.

No problem! There are new carts coming out for the omicron/Persei that apparently have a better flavor among other upgrades. That being said, I still think the dabbler was an excellent choice. In fact, I plan on buying the dabbler later this week! Don't forget to come back to the thread and share with us your first impressions and review of the dabbler. I can't wait to get mine. I don't think it's unlikely that in a couple months time you will be ordering a Persei to add to your collection. You can never have enough vapes ;). Best of luck to you.

We are in a real interesting time as far as vape development goes, that's for sure. Kinda like in the old computer days where if you waited, yeah, you'd get a better machine, but you could wait forever and NEVER get a computer! I figure the Dabbler will at least get me started and then I can kinda chill and watch the developments over the next little while and see which vape or vapes look interesting to me. The ThermoVape company also looks very cool and probably worthwhile keeping an eye on as well. I think that definitely ThermoVape and THC Scientific are certainly ones to watch, along with Vapor Bros of course. Oh, and I'm most definitely interested in the new vape that Vapor Bros. is hinting at regarding being a torch less nail! That's the main thing I dislike about concentrates (and I DO love my my dabs!) is busting out that big-azz torch each time I want to do a dab or 3 :D Going torchless will be very nice indeed. If done right, this could for sure be a game-changer.

I think you won't regret it. I find the pen form factor to be quite attractive. It's light, slim, and easily passed off as an e-cig. (Until someone asks why it's called the Dabbler. :D) I wish someone could design a pen vape that could handle flowers well, but I don't think the battery technology is quite ready.

I originally said that I thought the Dabbler gave 2-3 hits and then needed a reload. WRONG! :disgust: First, I didn't understand how much to load. Second, I was using ISO reclaim, which isn't the best of materials.

Yesterday I got some good BHO. I'd already figured out that I should be loading a lot more than I originally thought so I put a good-sized load in it. Unfortunately, I didn't weigh it so I don't know how much. I'll do that next time, but I don't know when that will be because the thing keeps on hitting. I'm up to a dozen hits and no sign of it slowing down. I should point out that these aren't big lung-busters, more like a couple of cigar puffs, but the lung-busters can be pulled out of the Dabbler for sure.

I don't have anything to test this with, but it looks to me that if you pull out the mouthpiece then the Dabbler might fit right into a 14mm water tool. Vito could probably verify this.
